Strong Hearts is contesting their employees unemployment benefits

Hey! I’m really pissed off so sorry if my post is fueled with anger!

I worked for Strong Hearts and was laid off involuntarily when the business closed. They did it so shitty. A month before announcing closure, they promised all the staff had jobs and not to worry and they’d let us know if they ever planned on closing.

I found out when the public did when strong hearts announced closure via their Instagram post. They communicated to us employees at the same time via a work chat that we no longer have access to, announcing closure.

I filed for unemployment and was approved. It was contested by the employer and I filled out paperwork proving my layoff. They contested that and now New York State is stating I quit and was not laid off and collected fraudulent unemployment and are now requiring me to pay back what was granted plus a heavy penalty for fraud. It also stated if I ever am granted unemployment again I may be reduced by 20-50% based on my “fraud”.

I never quit. I was laid off. The owner, Joel C, is fighting me tooth and nail. We found out when the public did. I didn’t quit.

I appealed and requested a hearing. I’ve never experienced anything like this before. Should I contact an attorney? Yeah, I used to love strong hearts, but now that they are doing this is insane! I can provide proof via chat if anyone is serious with wanting to help me :( proof of all letters I’ve received and what I filed etc

Acorns falling on cars on Park St

Hey I walked my dog on Park St (the section from Allen to Virginia St) and there are acorns falling from the tops of the super tall trees hitting the cars parked on the street below them every 10-15 seconds. It scared the shit out of me because the noise they make when they land on the windshield or top of a car sounds like an explosion. It sounds like large chunks of hail are falling on the cars below. I have no idea if this could damage a windshield, but based on the noise I wouldn’t be shocked if it could damage something. Sorry if this is a stupid or ignorant post, but there’s a blue car parked near 32 park street getting absolutely hammered with acorns and they are falling from so high up I think they could do damage. If you have a car parked here I’d recommend moving it. I walk this street every morning and today was the first time I noticed this.

Drowning in every aspect of my life and wake up every day wishing my parents never had children

My dad has 6 kids with 4 different women. Only 1/6 still speaks with him (but he kinda has to since he is the only child who lives with him and drives his car).

My dad is a selfish narcissist. Married someone 12 years younger than him and then retired. Nice. In many ways I’m jealous as I’ll likely never retire and never have anyone caring for me in any capacity, likely not even a partner, until I die.

My job doesn’t even pay me enough to cover my basic bills so every month I go into my savings. I’ve been laid off twice in the last 12 months and have been inpatient at the hospital 3x. I am so stressed in every aspect of my life. I cannot make my bills any cheaper, I’m in upstate New York and my rent is $1075 which is a steal. I don’t have debt. I have basic living expenses and if my rent was any cheaper I’d likely be in a box on the street. I’m trying to get a second job, but every week businesses are closing and no one seems to be hiring.

I am 30. I am so tired :,( I am losing my health insurance due to the Big Beautiful Bill plan with Medicaid that goes into effect next year and there’s no way I can afford anything. I can barely make my rent every month :,( I can’t even get help if I try.

Please life give me a break :,( I’m so tired of waking up crying and holding back tears as I pass people every morning walking.
