Prepaid Electricity Calculator: How Many Units for Your Rands

Prepaid Electricity Calculator: How Many Units for Your Rands

This free calculator shows exactly how many units (kWh) your rands buy on Eskom prepaid and in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Tshwane, eThekwini and Ekurhuleni, using the official 2026/27 tariffs with VAT included. It knows the things your receipt does not explain, the monthly price blocks that make later purchases more expensive, the R241.50 City Power takes out of Joburg purchases every month, and Cape Town's daily service charge. You get a receipt-style breakdown of where every rand went, what a repeat purchase this month would deliver, and what your typical monthly usage costs. It also tells you about the free basic electricity that millions of registered households never claim. Not on a listed tariff? Type the rate off your own receipt and it still works.

Vehicle Total Cost of Ownership Calculator (South Africa)

A car costs you far more than the instalment, and the biggest expense is usually the value it quietly loses in your driveway. This calculator adds up the true cost of owning a car in South Africa, depreciation, finance interest, fuel, insurance, servicing and licensing, and turns it into a real rand a month and rand a kilometre. It treats finance the honest way, counting the interest and not the whole instalment, so it never double counts the car, and it warns you when your resale is likely to fall below the balloon you still have to settle.

Where to Semigrate in South Africa: Town Finder

Semigration is moving somewhere better inside South Africa rather than packing for overseas, and more families do it every year, chasing a town that is safer, better run, or simply easier to live in. The hard part is that no single place wins on everything, the best run towns are often the priciest, and the prettiest coastlines can be short on jobs and water. This free tool ranks real semigration towns against the priorities you choose, governance, cost, jobs, healthcare, schools, water and climate, then shows the evidence behind every ranking instead of handing you a verdict.

SA Toll Fees Calculator

Every long weekend I get the same question at home, what is this drive going to cost in tolls. The calculators I found either spit out one vague lump sum or only do a normal car, so I built one that adds up every single toll gate on your real route.

Stuff it does that I couldn't find elsewhere:

breaks it down gate by gate, not just one total

all four vehicle classes, so it works if you're towing, in a bus or driving a truck, not just a car

where there's a genuine toll free alternative (like the Du Toitskloof Pass instead of the Huguenot Tunnel) it tells you honestly whether the detour actually saves money once you count the extra petrol and time. Usually it doesn't, and it says so instead of pretending

covers N1, N2, N3, N4 and N17, including the on/off ramp tolls most tools skip

you can do part of a route or a single gate, not just full city to city

Free, no signup, rates are the official 2026 SANRAL, TRAC and Bakwena fees.
