Darkly inclined, but unsure if I can call myself a goth - what do you guys think?
I hope my post does not sound too stupid or ridiculous, I would really like to know what you think!
I have always been that weird kiddo who has a thing for ev'rything gloomy and spooky.
Long before I learnt that there does exist a subculture for this, I had always been attracted to dark, misunderstood and taboo kinds of things. This slightly morbid fascination of death has been typical of me, already in childhood; this interest in death, funerals, myths 'round death is something I cannot - and, honestly, do not even want to - get rid of. And it was quite a shock for me, noticing that most of my interests are stereotypically gothic. Ancient mythologies, romantic and inspired stuff - preferably darkly romantic stuff, of course -, some areas people consider to be occult or spiritual, I am very much into true crime and all kinds of crime stories (another typical "darkly inclined" interest AFAIK) and I have a great thing for this special mood and atmosphere: abandoned places, old cemeteries and castles - I suppose you get what I mean?
One of the most well-known - we might say: a caricature of the goth cliché's - the one with the interest in vampires, vampire myths - is something I am completely guilty in. I have an interest in the original vampire myths of Eastern Europe, how stereotypical is this?
When it comes to personal preferences, I have always enjoyed dressing in black - or at least something dark - all the time, my accessories always have this gothic feeling.
But the problem - the very problem that makes me so insecure - is my music preferences. I am a huge music lover and a passionate music learner; of course I am fond of The Cure, The Sisters Of Mercy, Fields Of The Nephilim, Clan Of Xymox and the like, but my greatest favourites are of other genres! Most of them are classic rock and oldschool metal, I have a bunch of favourite composers from the Northern German organ school, but I do enjoy all kinds of harmonic and meaningful music. So my music preferences are not typically gothic. And I know goth should be considered mainly as a music subculture. This is why I keep thinking any true goth would have the right to tell me to sod off, 'cos I belong to somewhere else.
So I am really interested in your opinions. What are your main gothic interests? What do you think determines or defines a goth? Do you guys have some other, not exactly gothic music preferences?
A strange way of getting euphoria
Today, I had no confidence to use the gents' bathroom, so I went to the ladies'. Felt insanely awkward. Have you guys ever lacked the confidence to use the gents' restroom?
And I got some strange looks from some of the girls there.
This made my day, and this gave me confidence. No, I don't belong to the ladies' room and they notice it.
If I don't speak, I can safely use the gents' any time. Now it's confirmed.
Anyone else experienced this?
Hello there, I am really interested in your opinions!
I am so used to my old-fashioned handwriting that I must have some "blind points", to say it so. I was slightly sleepy but not under the influence of any medicine, alcohol or narcotics when I wrote this, please do take my tiredness into consideration :)
