Are any ambience tracks, NOT music, just ambience available from Myst 3?

I used to love just standing on the shore of Amateria and basically use it as a screensaver and listen to the ambience. But all my searching just brings up the music tracks.

I found some for Myst 1, but that's it so far.

Does anyone know where to get these tracks or maybe how I can extract them myself if I have to?

Finally got a modern laptop, what is a good IDE?

So I have an 18 year old laptop that I finally replaced with something new.

I had been using Visual Studio 2011, the newer one wouldn't even run on my old laptop last time I tried.

But now I need to get an IDE again because I lack the original install files for VS 2011, and so I figure on taking this opportunity to ask around about the different options. The new VS being so heavy that it can run on hardware that runs VS 2011 just fine seems like a big mark against it in my mind.

That said, here are the details of my situation, I have split the drive into extra partitions, expecting to put android x86 on one partition and another for experimenting around with linux or other OS options.

I would rather avoid a command line compiler. I am confident I can handle command line tools, but I much prefer gui.

I work on small projects for myself to learn and grow my skills and capabilities. I have no school not work needs for this, but that also means I generally just stick to default settings.

I do want to try out experimenting with the NPU, which I have already figured out is not standardized yet so I am already working on getting documentation for my hardware.

Advice, options, and suggestions are welcome.

Where do I find NPU API documentation or guides?

I just got a brand new laptop and it has a NPU. I want to start experimenting with what it can do, but not necessarily using the straightforward idea of copying gpt or something like that.

I have seen in the past where the gpu had been used for something other than rendering, so my thought goes to wondering what all I can use the npu for beyond the expected.

I have several ideas in mind that I want to try, from having several agents process whether they see other, give agents small neural nets like around 12 or less nodes for specific uses such a threat evaluation in a game with hundreds of units, apply new methods to figuring out the shortest path between two nodes on a graph or the shortest route to connect all nodes in a graph, etc.

The concept of a unit that applies one operation to lots of data seems useful in all these ways, and not exclusively to LLMs. Even if the NPU is not optimized for it, if it can handle it at all, it allows for faster processing by spreading the workload on a computer.

However, I haven't found any documentation for trying to use an NPU in my own applications.

Does anyone know of a place where I can find documentation or a guide for programing c++ to use an npu?

One drive interesting find when uninstalling

I just bought my first laptop in almost 20 years. Now I am setting up and removing bloat and other stuff.

Well, I went to uninstall one drive, and it needed my permission to make changes to my computer. Well I did the diligent thing and clicked to see more info. Turns out that to uninstall it activated the one drive updater app with many parameter commands.

For those who don't know, you can activate an app with additional information appended, called parameters, usually this modifies settings or activates a different mode, that sort of thing.

Well in this case, when uninstalling one drive app, it uses the updater with several parameter commands. One of the commands is uninstall, but other commands include,

- renameReplaceOneDriveExe
- renameReplaceODSUExe

And there are two even more concerning commands,

- enableODSUReportingMode

and even,
- installWebView2

That's right, uninstalling One Drive installs another app, enables reporting, and renames and reinstalls One Drive.

Obviously I denied the request for the app to make changes.

But you may want to watch out for similar tricks.

After a bit of trial and error, again (because it has been many years since I last tried booting to my android x86 os), I finally got it to boot into android x86 8.1 r2. But it runs really really slow, much slower than windows.

Is it possible that the parameters I used in grub 2 to boot up are off in some way causing the slow speed? Windows on my machine is slow but android is way slower, and the machine sounds like it is constantly busy (uncertain but I suspect the noise is the hard drive being constantly accessed).

A good diagnostic app apk to download and use to see the status of the machine would not go amiss.

This is a really old machine, has an intel 2 duo, that's how old it is. Got it in 2009. So I don't expect lightning speeds, but I literally have to be careful to hold the mouse button down long enough to register with a quick screen blink and then wait about .75 to 1.5 seconds for the system to respond to the click by scrolling, opening the folder, etc.

But in the end I just want to know if I can adjust the boot parameters, or at least check them, to make it work faster, probably by not constantly accessing the harddrive.

So, I am investigating whether my $300 budget can get me what I need to make a cyberdeck with the ability to do the following: c++ programming projects, run some older MMOs, notably DDO, Mabinogi (if it is still around), and SWTOR, as well as some other older PC games like Tiberian Sun, Starcraft, and Homeworld. Those are of course 3d games that use graphics cards.

I have no tools at the moment beyond a knife and a screwdriver, so any printers, soldering irons, etc need to fit in the budget.

Additional features are always a bonus.

Really I just need to know if it is feasible within my budget to investigate further, though if it is, advice on options would be appreciated.

Obviously it won't be native, but I don't know what kind of emulation options there are.

I am considering getting a used flagship android and hacking it for admin privileges or swapping the os to linux so I can then emulate windows to run some MMOs and games that are PC exclusive.

Obviously new stuff would not be performant enough but I'm thinking old stuff like DDO, SWTOR, Mabinogi, Tiberian Sun, etc.

Running Minecraft without the emulation step would be a nice bonus.

But the critical step here is if I can emulate x86 on an arm device.

So, is it possible? If so, any advice on making it work? I have a limited budget and a desire to avoid the new windows scam.

Combining quartonions is simple enough and I can find tons of material on doing the actual math, but the one thing I cannot find anywhere is translating what is actually happening into the numbers and back again.

For example, I can take a model ship and rotate it a quarter turn left and up, but where do I put the .25? Do I need to convert the .25 into some other unit such radians or something? Do I need to maintain the cartesian coordinates as an intermediary, tracking that quarter turn left and up as a less than quarter turn on the horizontal plane and a less than quarter turn on the vertical plane?

Then there is the question of which direction the top of the ship is facing, if I have an axis through the ship that I have moved, the top of the ship can still rotate around that axis so once a few maneuvers have been calculated, how can I look at the numbers and know the orientation of the ship around the axis that I have been turning?

And I should note that I am not looking to use this in a computer program so the use case does not involve the quirks required for computer processing.

But basically this is my problem, using quartonions as description. If I look at an object, I can understand how to describe it mathematically, but I have not figured out how to look at an object and know what the quartonion to describe the object's orientation would be, nor can I look at a quartonion and understand the orientation described. This is rather a critical piece that I am missing but all my searches turn up calculating them but nothing that helps me look at a quartonion and see the orientation it is supposedly describing.
