Addiction by Design (book)

Hello friends,

I was wondering if anyone else has read addiction by design by Natasha D.Schull. I found it really eye opening as to how machines are designed, also some of the stories of people that she writes about are so sad.

It has really helped me to gain a perspective on how the machines are designed to essentially get people into the 'flow state' where time just passes without the player realising, and how money just kind of doesn't become seen as money anymore.

Anyway, because it has helped me I thought it might be worth discussing, I don't know, it was just a thought.

Question about making a good portfolio

Hi all, I would love some input, especially from hiring managers or designers who have been doing this for years (I am in the UK but I am not sure whether it would make a difference).

I recently finished a diploma in instructional design and would just love to know what hiring managers look for in candidates portfolios.

I have heard some contradictory information; for example, some people have said to keep it simple, and just show the work itself with only a few sentences for explanation.

Others have said put in more detail, for example show your decisions and why you made them, your wireframe and storyboard etc. I am attempting to put my portfolio together but as I say, I am not entirely sure what would make it a good, solid portfolio.

I would love any ideas on how much to write for each project, and what you find is actually a bit pointless- for example how much detail and what details you are looking for would be great.

Thanks so much for any advice!

Unexpected text with assessment

Hello friends,

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

I received a text from the DWP today out of the blue, stating that I have a work capability assessment with the time and date. However, I am not claiming UC or ESA.

I am claiming PIP but I assume that is separate as I was only reviewed this year for it (in Jan if I recall correctly).

I am unsure how to proceed, I don't have a letter about an assessment and so don't have a number to call.

It could be a scam text but don't think it is as there is no incorrect grammar or links to click etc.

Thanks.
