I'm 16F turning 17 in December.

I'm interested in science, particularly biology. Planning on doing a bachelor of science majoring in marine science at university.

I will happily yap to you about probably anything and happy to have super deep conversations if you want.

I play hockey (field hockey) and it's pretty awesome.

I also do drama/theatre outside of school.

I really like fish they're very fish-ish.

I enjoy writing stories, drawing, animating, listening to music, going outside on the swing or for walks with my doggo. Probably other stuff too.

I'm 16f, he's 15m. I want to test the boundaries a little before I think about asking him out.

I'm 16f, he's 15m. How can I subtly test the boundaries? I want to see how he reacts before I try to go any further and actually think about confessing.

I haven’t had a crush on anyone in ages, but I'm pretty sure I like a guy on my hockey team.

He’s in the grade below me, but he’ll turn 16 before I turn 17, so the age gap is very small and doesn’t seem like a big deal.

The potentially awkward part is that he’s friends with my younger brother (who is two grades below me and also on my team), and he’s also my friend’s brother. But I don’t think either my brother or my friend would actually care if anything happened.

We’re both defenders, so we naturally interact a lot during games and practices. He does small thoughtful things, like getting stuff for me, and we usually say “good job” to each other and smile after plays.

I probably talk to him more than anyone else on the team that I didn’t already know before joining. Our conversations feel very normal and easy, and I know all of this could just be standard teammate behavior.

Something that first made me notice him differently happened before our first game. We were sitting opposite each other during a team talk, and I noticed we kept sitting in very similar ways.

At first, we were both resting our chins on our hockey sticks, which stood out to me because I’d never seen anyone else do that before. Later, we were both sitting with one leg crossed over the other, and so on. I don’t think it necessarily means anything, and it was probably just random, but it was the moment that made me start seeing him in a more romantic way.

I also like that we find each other funny. We joke around and laugh at each other’s jokes, and being around him feels very natural and comfortable.

I have dated before, but that was when I was 13 and it was with a girl. Our friends basically figured out we liked each other and pushed us into confessing, so I’ve never really had to do this on my own.

We don’t go to the same school (we both go to nearby single-sex schools), so I only see him at hockey.

How do you actually confess to someone? Is there a way to test the waters a little before saying anything directly? And what can I do to connect with him more?
