Red Belt Beaconed Cryo Science

Because there's something wrong with me, I really like making things that work with just red belts.

https://factoriobin.com/post/kyk217y1z4gi-EXPIRES

Question for the Interplanetary Society of Professional Engineers: Due to the way this outputs, it can only use one lane of the belts. I can fix that by rejiggering one cryo plant out of a pair to sideload onto the belt, but that means I need to deploy this as a pair rather than as individual units. Is that a good idea?

How to do the "redirect to randomly selected X" link?

I'm working up a trivia website/app. One feature that I want is moving to a random question, either from a "Next Question" link at the bottom of an answered question or on the landing page. How do you do that, especially client-side in an SPA?

One method I can think of is selecting the next question early to make it an explicit link, but that means that instead of www.app.com/nextquestion, the link URL would be www.app.com/question/<next question ID>, which is unaesthetic.

This seems like a very simple thing, but I don't know of a good way to do it off the top of my head.

Constrain Value for Field Based on Other Fields

I'm working up a trivia app, which will be multiple choice. Questions will look something like the below, though longer to account for all the stuff you need in practice. My question is, is there a way to say that correctAnswer has to be one of the strings in answers? I know about literal unions, like correctAnswer: "Babe Ruth" | "Lou Gehrig" | "Hank Aaron" | "Joe Dimaggio", but that wouldn't work for other questions.

The alternative that I'll probably stick with is just using the index for the correct answer instead of the literal value, but I'm curious.

{
question: "Which MLB player was also known as the Sultan of Swat?",
answers: ["Lou Gehrig", "Babe Ruth", "Hank Aaron", "Joe Dimaggio"],
  correctAnswer: "Babe Ruth"
}

Rat Market Grinds August 14-16

Salutations, memorious comrades. This week, we have two (2) demands. New this week, we have: Nothing. Departing this week, we have: Soft demand, buying Parabola-Linen and Scraps of Ivory Organza; Saintly demand, buying Ratty Reliquaries and False Hagiotoponyms.

Disclaimers:

  • Some grinds will require sourcing other materials, like Esteem of the Guild to charter a barge at Jericho Locks, Backstory for a Balmoral Cover Identity, or items to burn in Law-Forging. I will leave that to you, because there are too many options and they're too contingent on your own progress.
  • All action counts are minimums, assuming endgame stats. If you do not have endgame stats, it may take longer.

My recommended grinds up front:

Cheap options, without leaving London:

Better options afield:

  • Parabola-Linen

  • Ivory Organza

    • Balmoral Larceny; requires Casing 10, plus a Cover Identity with Backstory 80, Elaboration 10, Credentials and Nuance 5, and Ties to the Bazaar/Society.
  • Ratty Reliquary

  • False Hagiotoponym

    • Moulin/Parabola/Heist (https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Money-Making/Sources#The_Heists_of_the_Wellspring_(complex))- Once you get Para-Archaeologist up to 8, you can take an expedition to the Wellspring of Moulin, and get 4 Flasks of Waswood Wellspring Water. You can then go back to your Parabolan Base-Camp, and Search Parabola for the location of a particular treasure. You can then go back to the Flit and undertake a heist against the Hiding Place of a Particular Item to get a False Hagiotoponym.
      • Handy trick for greater profit: You can take an expedition to get Flasks at any time, so if you reach the cave shortly before Viric Fades, you can get 4 Flasks, and then after Viric Fades bathe in the waters and get 4 more, for a total of 8 Flasks on 1 expedition.
    • Making one in Burrow-Infra-Mump, using 3 Verses of Counter-Creed, 7 Apostate Psalms, and 10 Palimpsest Scraps. There are enough options to get those ingredients that I will leave it to you.

How much of the game can you play without going to Menace zones?

Per title. The Neathy Scout is a good boy/girl/other, who wants to stay on the right side of the law/grave/society/sanity. How much of the game can they do without ever going to the Tomb-Colonies/jail/slow boat/Royal Beth? Gaining menaces is fine, just so long as they don't go to the zone. Robbing the Brass Embassy is just youthful hijinks, entirely forgivable until it gets somebody sent to New Newgate.

Obviously they can't get some of the 40 Renown items, because the Bohemian and Great Game items are in the Mirror-Marches, Constables is on the slow boat, Criminals is in New Newgate, Revolutionaries is in a state of some confusion/the Royal Beth, and the Tomb-Colonies item is in the Tomb-Colonies area.

I'm not sure they can do any Ambition. Dealing with the second assassin in Bag a Legend requires going to the slow boat. Learning about the music-hall singer in Light Fingers can only be done in a state of some confusion. I'm not certain, but I think Heart's Desire and Nemesis also have points where you can't progress without dying.

Finishing Persuasive MYN is not going to work if they need to be banished to the Tomb-Colonies. By extension, they can't become Poet-Laureate or Governor of Port Carnelian, which means they can't proceed with Associating with Radical Academics.

Evolution is out, because they would definitely die in that diving bell, and it's moot because Evolution depends on proceeding Associating with Radical Academics past being Governor of Port Carnelian. I'm on the fence about zailing to the Tomb-Colonies rather than being sent in disgraced exile, but it's academic anyway.

They can't do all of Breeding Monsters because a Tomb-Lion can only be found in the Tomb-Colonies. This means they can't get a FATE-locked Obdurate Stallion or Bifurcated Owl, either.

I believe the Railroad is all fine, but I know that robbing the Calculating Lapidary's vault in the Hurlers will kill them.

What else have I forgotten?

[US] https://www.it-bstar.com/ -- Probable Upwork Scam?

I recently applied for work with IT-BStar [URL in title]. In an interview for that role, it was explained that my role would be to create an Upwork account and act as the US-based face for foreign developers. They would make the proposals and do the work through my Upwork account, and I would take the payment, passing 75-80% back to the actual developers.

A) Is this a scam? It sounds to me like account impersonation, plus something about my assuming full tax liability for that payment.

B) So far as it is a scam, what should I do about this? Can I report them to Upwork?

It Feels Weird Justifying A Slow Burn

E: As discussed below, "Slow Burn" is the wrong term for what I'm doing, but I can't edit the title. It should say rather that it's weird to justify "Delayed Gratification".

(It's probably a universal problem, but I write smut so I'm tagging it smut)

In a piece I'm writing currently, two people meet and have enough chemistry that by rights they ought to fuck like rabbits, but my plot requires them not to fuck until after the final showdown.

As the author, it's easy for me to justify them waiting, because it will result in a better payoff for me and for them, including some very hot scenes. It's harder to justify from the characters' POV why they should wait, without that authorial omniscience.

I can contrive interruptions to break the moment, but they would necessarily be contrived, and I could as easily not write such interruptions. Or a moment of willpower/hesitation by one side, saying "No, we shouldn't", but again, I could instead write them giving in to their very reasonable urges which are the entire purpose of my writing this smut.

It feels like that one Frog and Toad meme; "We can put the cookies in a box keep this burn slow." "But we can also open the box get right to the fucking."

IDK. I suppose the only real answer is to recognize that it's all contrived, so it's up to me what I want to contrive.

Be careful where you get your outdoor supplies.

There are many good outfitters; Columbia, Patagonia, REI, Dick's Sporting Goods. However, the firm of Tate & Sons is not one of them. They somehow devised a tent which funnels any rainwater directly onto your face, a winter jacket made from chicken wire, and a compass which somehow points east-south-east.

It is understood by backcountry wanderers everywhere, that he who has a Tate's is lost.

Rat Market Grinds May 29-31

Greetings, delicious colleagues. This week, we have three (3) (III) demands. New this week, we have: Inscrutable demand, buying Uncanny Incunabula, Chimerical Archives and Cartographer's Hoards; Calculating Demand, buying Vital Intelligence, paired Queen/Epaulette Mates, and Corresponding Sounders. Departing this week, we have: Maudlin demand, buying Captivating Ballads and Parabolan Parables.

Disclaimers:

  • Some grinds may involve sourcing other materials, like Esteem of the Guild to charter a barge at Jericho Locks, Backstory for a Balmoral Cover Identity, or items to burn in Law-Forging. I will leave that to you, because there are too many options and they're too contingent on your own progress.
