Border Collie portrait in Polychromos and calligraphy ink on pastel paper

New Border Collie portrait finished. Had this one on the board for a couple of days. A really fun one to work on. Nice mix of light and dark with plenty of texture and room for subtle colours to pop the whole thing.
He’s 20 x 30” on Art Spectrum pastel paper and drawn with Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils and Windsor & Newton white calligraphy ink.

3D printed battle rifle with custom paint job skin

Thought you guys would like a gander at this. My buddy 3D printed this battle rife and airbrushed a custom skin onto it for me with fluorescent paint. I’m going to frame it in a black box frame lined with LEDs for my man cave.

Tutankhamen’s mask in Polychromos without using any yellows

I drew this piece of Tutankhamen’s mask a while back. He’s A3 in size on Canson Bristol ultra-smooth illustration paper 250 gsm, drawn with Faber Castell Polychromos pencils and Windsor Newton white calligraphy ink for the final highlights. I wanted to test how well I could achieve the gold without using a single yellow pencil in the whole process. The yellows are made with variations of ivory, cream, olive gold and grey but not a single yellow was used in the piece.

I completed this racehorse last weekend with Polychromos pencils ✏️

I had so much fun doing the last race horse I said I’d do another. I’m really enjoying capturing their muscle complexity and anatomy using how light catches their coats. Fun way to spend the down time! I started with the head and worked my way across completing each section including shading, colour and texture as I moved from one side of the piece to the other.
He’s around 20 x 30” in size like his counterpart, drawn on Art Spectrum pastel paper with Faber-Castell Polyrchromos and Windsor Newton calligraphy ink.

A piece I’m working on at the moment called “The Knight”

Wanted to share my progress with this piece as I go. He is large, as I drew him on a full imperial sheet of pastel paper with Polychromos pencils and calligraphy ink.
I took a different approach to this than I usually do as I wanted to really push colour into a subject that is usually just shades of brown and pick up what I could in terms of depth and shine, but in a loose way. Loosening up has been a real challenge in drawing so I’m thrilled that I seem to be getting somewhere with becoming more expressive. Hope all you guys are keeping well!

My latest drawing entitled “Bison Fury”

I’m very pleased with this new one I just finished, entitled “Bison Fury”.
I wanted to test out a few new techniques to do with introducing strong colour to a much more subtle reference image so he was perfect for that. I’ve always wanted to draw one of these guys. They have a softness in their eyes which is important to their personality.
He’s A3 on Canson Bristol illustration paper, and as always, drawn with Faber-Castell Polychromos.

Middle Earth map headboard for bed

I thought I’d share this with you guys. I am making a custom headboard for my bed of the entire map
of middle earth. I drew out the entire map on my iPad in black and white, every detail being caught perfectly, I even counted every single tree. Then I drew items of interest in the lore of the story on top of the map and placed them on top.
I laser-cut the designs into a 4 x 5 foot sheet of pine. I chose pine because it’s a very hard wood and it won’t warp.
Then I stained the map with different shades of wood stain such as blonde wood stain, mahogany stain etc and varnished the entire thing. The varied stains also add to the antiquity of the map and make it feel ages and worn. The next step will be to shape the edges to the surrounding leaves and attach this sheet onto a reinforced backing sheet for the bed. Let me know what you guys think!

“Are You Even Listening?” - Polychromos on Canson Bristol 250gsm

Finished this piece of a pair of Irish wagtails and framed it up yesterday. I wanted him to have the vacant stare of being zoned out and her to look like she’s just had enough of him for one day.

It’s framed in a Larsson Juhl Japanese black lacquer piano frame with green velvet mount and museum grade anti-reflective glass.

Collie portrait finished and framed

Collie portrait finished, I wanted to give him 2 different coloured eyes. You see a lot of dogs with heterochromia and it gives them real visual personality. The entire piece was done with a single black Polychromos pencil and just a touch of colour in the eyes. Wanted to do a dog for a long time, and who better than a Collie.

I framed him with black Japanese lacquer piano frame, with a royal blue velvet mount, and he is protected by Larsson Juhl museum grade anti-reflective glass.

Every single element of this piece is 100% acid free material, which means the piece will not fade or tarnish with age.

I tackled this take-away coffee to really test myself

I hope this is okay to post -
I found an image online of this take-away iced coffee online and had to try it for the sheer challenge of it. There’s so much in it with the moving liquid, the translucency of the plastic and the range of colours in it, the colour shifts where the liquid is thicker or thinner, loads of surface shine etc.
I won’t be selling it as it’s not my own design and I firmly believe in artist’s copyright and what’s theirs is theirs, although I heavily suspect the image I found was an AI image. I have no idea who or what created the original image I found but it I thought it was a very cool piece and fun to have a go at.

It’s A3 in size on Canson Bristol 250gsm paper, drawn with Faber Castell Polychromous pencils

Bee portrait I did over the weekend

Did this piece of a honey bee over the weekend. Nice subject to turn the head off and draw. It’s important to keep the hand moving regularly.
