Dealership damaged my car while in for service and is paying for repairs - should I still inform my insurer? (UK)

Hi everyone, looking for some advice on how to handle an insurance question in the UK.

I dropped my car off at a main dealer for a simple dashcam installation. When I went to collect it, I discovered significant bodywork damage (dents, scratches, and paint damage on the side panels, wheel arch, and rear door) that happened while the car was in their care.

The dealership admitted fault (their valeting team damaged it while moving the vehicle), and they have arranged to repair everything at their own official approved bodyshop at no cost to me, along with providing a courtesy car.

My question is: Should I still inform my own car insurance company about this incident?

I am not looking to make a claim since the dealership is paying directly, and I am not aware if they are using their trade insurance to cover the cost of the damage.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation or knows how the UK insurers' process works. Thanks!

Tiny dent appeared on my car roof near front windscreen after body shop repair. Best way to fix?

Hi all,

What’s the best way to get a tiny dent on my car roof repaired?

This dent has appeared near the front windscreen glass on the roof of my car after it was in a body shop for about a week for a bumper replacement. I have already raised the issue with the body shop, but I’m not sure if they’ll take responsibility even though I have video footage of the car from all angles before I handed it over for repair.
Regardless of how that goes, I still need to get it fixed. It’s very small, but it’s quite concerning since the car is almost new.

What would be the best repair option for something like this in the UK?

Changing address mid-term. How much will a recent non-fault claim affect my premium?

Hi all,

I’m currently insured with Admiral and will be moving to a new rental property next month, so I will need to update my address (which will result in a mid-term adjustment).

The new place is actually in a safer area with gated parking, but I had a non-fault claim last month (claimed through the third-party insurer).

Just wondering when they recalculate my premium after the address change, is this likely to cause a big increase? Or does the safer location usually balance things out? Would appreciate any insights from people who have been in a similar situation.

Thank you.

Repair vs Replace Bumper (Non-Fault Claim, 8 Month Old Car)

Hi all,

I have attached photos of the damage. The body shop has said they can either repair the dent on the bumper or replace the entire bumper cover, and the decision is up to me.

They also mentioned that if I choose replacement, they will need to paint the adjacent left/right wings (which have no damage) for colour blending.

The car is only 8 months old and this is a non-fault insurance claim, so I’m trying to get it back to as close to factory condition as possible.

What would you go for in this situation - repair or full replacement?

Non-fault claim - Insurance vs AX Accident Exchange?

Hi all, need quick advice.

My parked 8 month old car was hit when another vehicle rolled back due to a failed handbrake. It’s a non-fault claim (front bumper + bonnet paint damage).

I’m deciding between:

1. My insurance (Admiral) - but I only get a courtesy car if I use their approved bodyshop. I would prefer main dealer repair since the car is relatively new.

2. AX Accident Exchange - they offer a like-for-like courtesy car and handle everything, and say I can use main dealer repair.

Has anyone used AX before? Any downsides compared to going through my insurer?

Thanks.

What’s the best way to get the windscreen replaced on my Volkswagen Golf Mk 8.5 after a stone chip using a genuine part with the VW logo? I contacted the VW dealer I bought the car from, and they said they use Autoglass for the replacement, but I’m not sure if the windscreen they use will have the VW logo.
