I open-sourced my EXIF-stripping app, Mako Scrubber

I've wrote an app that strips EXIF metadata (GPS, camera make/model, timestamps) from photos before you share them — local-only, zero INTERNET permission. Just open-sourced it under GPLv3.

Source: https://github.com/themakoway/mako-scrubber

Exodus report: https://reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org/en/reports/com.mako.makoscrubber/latest/ (0 trackers)

Submitted to F-Droid (RFP) and IzzyOnDroid — both pending review. In the meantime the signed APK is attached to GitHub Releases, so it works with Obtainium today.

Happy to answer questions about the code or take feedback — first time open-sourcing something, so bear with me.

Considering the number I have seen and killed in my backyard this afternoon, I'd say we've lost the war. We're totally doomed. 💀💀💀

Ayoh-Style Dill Pickle Mayo Copycat

Ingredients

The Creamy Base:

  • 1 large egg yolk (at room temperature)
  • ¾ cup neutral oil (Sunflower or avocado oil match the brand's formula, but canola works too)
  • 1 tsp whole grain Dijon mustard (gives it those visible mustard seeds)
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice or white vinegar

The "Dilly-O" Mix-Ins:

  • ⅓ cup high-quality dill pickles, finely minced (or a dry-drained dill relish—avoid sweet relish)
  • 1 to 2 tbsp fresh dill, finely chopped (go heavy here for that fresh look and flavor)
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp coarsely cracked black pepper
  • A pinch of sugar (just enough to mimic the seasoning balance without making it sweet)
  • 1 to 2 tsp pickle juice (to thin it out to that pourable consistency)

Instructions

  1. Build the Emulsion Base: In a medium bowl (or using an immersion blender jar), whisk together the egg yolk, whole grain Dijon, and the tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar until smooth.
  2. Stream the Oil: Slowly add the oil. If doing this by hand, start with a drop at a time while whisking vigorously. Once the emulsion forms and thickens, you can pour the oil in a slow, steady stream until fully incorporated. (If using an immersion blender, place all base ingredients in the jar, put the blender tightly against the bottom, turn it on high, and slowly pull it up over 10–15 seconds).
  3. Season the Mayo: Whisk in the garlic powder, onion powder, cracked black pepper, and a tiny pinch of sugar.
  4. Fold in the Texture: Stir in the finely chopped dill pickles and the fresh chopped dill.
  5. Adjust the Consistency: Ayoh is famously a bit thinner than regular mayonnaise so it can easily coat sandwiches. Stir in 1 to 2 teaspoons of the leftover pickle juice from your jar. This adds a punch of acidity and thins the sauce down to that perfect glossy, aioli-like consistency.
  6. Chill: Let the sauce sit in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before using. This gives the dried garlic, onion, and fresh dill time to bloom into the oil.

> Pro-Tips to Match the Brand: > > * The Crunch: Make sure to finely chop actual dill pickles rather than using standard store-bought relish if you want distinct, crisp little pockets of texture. > * The Black Pep: Use freshly cracked black pepper rather than finely ground pre-packaged pepper. You want to see those distinct black flecks scattered throughout the green dill.

Why is the Home Depot app so incredibly awful?

The app goes unresponsive randomly, and the screen refreshes randomly. As a solo app developer, I'd like to learn what makes the app so terrible so I can avoid doing whatever it is they're doing.
