I’m struggling with whether I should reach out to my ex/girlfriend after almost a year of complete silence.

We were in a good place. Our conversations were normal, meaningful, and there was no major argument, conflict, or obvious sign that something was wrong.

Then around October 2025, she just stopped communicating with me.

No breakup. No explanation. No fight. Nothing.

I tried to make sense of it for a while, but eventually I stopped reaching out. We haven’t spoken since.

It’s now August 2026, and I recently found out that she’s back.

And honestly, this has brought everything back into my head.

I’ve spent the past several months thinking about what happened and whether I should have done something differently. At the same time, I’ve been trying to move forward with my own life and focus heavily on my future.

Part of me thinks I should just leave the past alone. She made the choice to disappear, and almost a year is a very long time.

But another part of me feels like I never actually got closure. There wasn’t even a conversation where we ended things. We went from having good conversations to absolutely nothing.

So I’m wondering:

Would you reach out after almost a year if you were in my position?

I’m not necessarily talking about trying to get back together. I think I mostly want to understand what happened and have one honest conversation.

Would sending something simple like, “Hey, it’s been a long time. I hope you’re doing well. If you’re open to it, I’d like to talk sometime,” be a bad idea?

For anyone who’s been in a similar situation: did reaching out give you the closure you wanted, or did it just reopen the wound?
