apparently this driftwood has become a meme in my household…

behold my new tank! set it up today as a moina / pink ramshorn / plant grow out tank. i’ve had this driftwood for a while & finally found a use for it in this tank, but as soon as i set it up, my partner & our roommate were dying laughing over how it looks. so my partner sees a man with a giant [redacted] & [redacteds], our roommate sees a diver, & i see someone taking a biiig step. we all also thought it looks someone busting out some sick moves. we spent way too long just loosing it over the many interpretations that just kept coming. my partner then sent a pic to our friends & they had even more nsfw interpretations but i’ll leave it to your imaginations. just thought it was hilarious that this beautiful driftwood piece i’ve been saving for a special tank turned out to be so evocative lol. does anyone else see what we’re seeing?

monte carlo dry start

this was day 1 of the dry start, its day 3 now.

planted monte carlo tissue culture in fluval biostratum (smaller granule size for the monte carlo roots) & some java moss on the driftwood (chopped up into a paste with some fertilizer & crushed stratum)

the light is a random from amazon & i have it set for 12 hrs at 100% intensity. airing it out for 15 mins daily.

day 2 (slide 2) i realized it needed some more moisture so that’s what im keeping it at but im still wondering if its enough or too much?

this is my first dry start & 3rd tank & ive got some questions:

saw some discourse on monte carlo not doing well with dry start but i dont use CO2 so im wondering if i should stick with the dry start or flood it early on?

also, i have some diluted hydrogen peroxide prepared to spray any mold with but im debating getting springtails. i just dont know what to do with them afterwards since i won’t be immediately stocking the tank & i don’t want them to die. can i just put them outside in some grass after?

also saw someone dosed fertilizer every few weeks & im wondering if i should do that too.

any other tips or input would be appreciate, thx!

b6 glitching?

does anyone know why my bigme b6 color screen is doing this? right next to it is my bigme b751c with the exact same eink settings but it’s not glitching.

side note, i bought the b6 because i wanted something smaller (as well as any other colorway other than black) but seeing how inferior the screen is, especially the color, is a huge disappointment. anyone have any recommendations for 6ish inch android color ereaders? tia

what kind of moss is this?

i was given this moss a while ago, but it was too little to see how it grows. now that it’s grown out a little bit, i’m still unsure of what it is. any thoughts? tia

hardscape ideas for a 13g low tank?

this will be my 3rd aquascape & also my first with this many plants! im planning to do a dry start to get the glosso carpet going but i’m not sure how im going to incorporate hardscape into the layout.

i’m going for a cute theme for this tank to accentuate the citrusy colors of the livestock, so im between using driftwood or some white rocks i currently have in another tank for the hardscape elements (im pretty sure i dont want both in 1 tank, so it’ll be one or the other). whatever i choose, it’ll have the stringy moss growing on it.

would love some ideas on which hardscape to use or additional recommendations, as well as any ideas on the layout like having driftwood coming out of each corner or having a rock mountain on one side. i’m not really sure what would look good here!

white dots on plants?

i set this tank up a couple months ago, it was doing great until i extended the photo period & accidentally caused an algae issue that i’ve been battling ever since.

a few weeks ago i removed all the dying/algae ridden elodea including those with white spots & now the white spots are back so im wondering what they are?

i use remineralized reverse osmosis water from the grocery store + a little tap water for top offs & my parameters seem to be in normal levels but my master test kit is expired so ill be getting a new one soon for a more accurate reading. also im not sure what the black & white rocks are but the pure white rocks are howlite, perhaps the spots are mineral deposits from them? any insights? tia

no genre shuffling :[ (my dealbreaker for now)

as someone who grew up with ipods, im a big fan of the Y1’s look & i bought one soon after discovering the brand. i was very excited to finally escape spotify for good & really get to enjoy my music.

well im sad to report that its not working out for me, as im a biggg genre listener. i even spent days manually tagging my music with the exact genres i prefer, but i wasnt expecting the genre section of the player to be the ONLY (?) one without a shuffle function. it takes you to a list of artists in that genre, then their albums, & that’s really impractical for me as someone who has a bunch of random songs from random artists.

this is unfortunately a dealbreaker for me, & i shall return to the sony walkman lineup i’ve always loved. but im putting this out here incase innioasis is listening: please add a genre shuffle function! i really love the Y1 & in most other areas, it meets my needs! but this is the one function i can’t live without, & i wish i knew about it before dropping $70 on this thing + my case just arrived today ToT.

for now i’ll just hold onto my Y1 in hopes they update the software or release the Y2 with this feature :^

im getting a new mp3 player & it’s high time i finally invest in/search for my ideal headphones.

i get migraines & headaches very easily, probably from the weight & pressure of most headphones so im looking for the most lightweight, non-clampy, corded, closed-back headphones i can find. could compromise for bluetooth if its a great pair.

bonus points if they’re an older model with character or a newer model with a bit of classic charm. im just not a fan of all the minimal & modern headphones these days like the recent sony or apple headphones.

for reference, i regularly borrow my partner’s sony wh-1000XM3s but i still find those too tight & heavy. i also tried the koss porta pros but they weren’t that comfy & my hair always snagged in the metal. best pair i’ve had were the jlab rewind headphones because of how lightweight they were but they still had a bit of clamp & lots of noise bleed, so i prefer to avoid open backs for that reason.

my budget is around $150 give or take. thx in advance!
