Help me reason buying a Kia EV2 as opposed to an old Kia Nero or Hyundai Kona
EDIT: ffs misspelled Kia Niro in the title but can't edit it now
Hello, we are looking for our second EV. My partner uses the Hyundai Ioniq 5 to commute to work, I work from home so the second car would mostly be for shop runs but also 50-60 miles driving on the weekend (mostly motorway) and occasionally a farther out road trip on my own so I'd like to have 250+ miles WLTP range.
We were initially looking at Renault 4 (thought the Renault 5 felt too small) but popped in to the Kia dealership and just found out the Kia EV2 Air is cheaper with the electric car grant.
Could either go PCP over 3 years: £8k deposit and roughly £140 monthly and balloon payment of £13k. Or loan: £8k deposit and roughly £360 monthly to own outright. The APR from Kia is actually pretty good and would be cheaper than taking a loan from Tesco Bank, and if I've done the maths correctly, if we could sell it for £12k after 3 years it'd be a better deal over PCP?
But why would we sell it after 3 years? I'm not really the kind of person who would change cars every 3-4 years. Think we'd keep it until it's dead really.
Where I'm thrown off is we could buy another Hyundai Ioniq 5 for £13.5k (used, high mileage but it doesn't matter to us as we bought ours the same and the battery health was really good, and have had no issues). It wouldn't be my first choice because it's a big car hence a pain in multi-storey car parks (for me, YMMV).
But we could also get a Kia Niro 2022 or Hyundai Kona 2022 for £11-12k?? They've already gone through the new EV depreciation and would probably still last me 5+ years?
I never understood why anyone would buy or lease brand new but a lot of good EVs only came out this year. But would it make more sense to buy an older EV? How much difference is there in the tech and driving experience etc and is it worth the price?
What would you do if you were in this situation? TIA!
