3DRealms is publishing Twisted Towers in 2 days.

"Explore an abandoned 1950’s resort reminiscent of BioShock and Disney World".

I remember hearing it was quite inspired by Bioshock. Not sure how the gameplay is, but aesthetically it looks quite like a homage.

How would you desolder this SMD IC with Thermal Pad?

I suppose I should go with hot air (I have a Techrebal 858D, 700W, 100ºC - 500ºC), but I'm doubtful about the thermal pad underneath.

Also, as this is factory solder, the melting point is higher (than leaded solder).
I don't have hot plate (the board is big, and I just need to remove this IC)

How would you go about it?

Screen Protector : installed from factory or not?

Hello everyone,

Apologies beforehand for the dumb question.
I have just gotten a Photon Mono 4 Ultra, and after unboxing it I found a sticker on the screen instructing to tear the protective film and install the screen protector:

https://preview.redd.it/6253ecoxleeh1.jpg?width=4624&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53fdf2abccc5a8cfccc8771713b545d052286e5d

At the same time, after some research, I found some old YouTube videos warning that a screen protector is already coming attached to the screen from factory. They also mention Anycubic instructions are not completely correct.

Anycubic video is not clear: they show a screen protector change on the Mono 4K which goes with some black tape (that they don't seem to provide). The installation ends with a screen full of bubbles and doesn't look very straightforward.

On the other hand, I see here a person installing the screen protector for a Mono 4 Ultra printer straight out of the box.

So the question is: Do I have to remove the film I'm showing on the photo (grabbing from the upper right corner's green tab and pulling left) and install the screen protector they've provided with the other accessories? There's no screen protector attached to the machine from factory? Do I need any black tape around it, or I just install it as any normal phone screen protector?

If there's any other consideration I should take into account, please let me know, I'm 100% new to this and a bit scared!

Thanks everyone!

Levine, get your sh*t together

With all the respect in the world, as you are one of the marvelous creators in this industry:

It's ridiculous what you are doing man.

No update in more than 7 months. What the F for you start a "developer log" if you are gonna post 2 "updates" in a year?

I'm very sure you are incredibly busy doing a million things, I wouldn't dare to question that. Your work has been impeccable so far. All Bioshocks are masterpieces as well as SWAT 4 and the expansion. I have no doubt you are putting blood and sweat into this project and I want to believe it will be something new, big and blasting.

I may be a perfectionist too, it probably takes me forever to do / make / build anything. But even I come to the point sometimes of saying "ok, I need to cut it here, I need to sacrifice this (which would be amazing to have) for a greater good".

It might be as well the publisher, business strategies, marketing, blabla. I don't know. But come on, guys, I don't think I have to explain it's going to be 20 from Bioshock 1 and if someone was 20 by that time, now it is 40. And not everyone was 20 exactly...
As you are well aware of, there are many upcoming Bioshock clones because none of you is bringing anything to the table.

I mean, it's totally up to you, of course. But I think that games require gamers. And a little sympathy would be appreciated.

How would you remove this IC?

SOIC 14 IC that I need to desolder

Hot air station looks a bit too dangerous to me, but maybe it's the lack of practice and confidence I have with it. Kapton taping these caps would be enough...? I would flood the pins with solder and then go with hot air on them, but they are basically 2mm away from the capacitors...

On the other hand, it's also tricky for soldering iron unless some trickery is done.
I haven't tried this method (I know it's not orthodox), but it came to my mind:

(not me, captured from a YouTube video)

How would you go about it?
Thanks!
