Sweet smell from vents but no visible leak/puddle - Thermostat or Heater Matrix?

Hi everyone, I have an R56 Mini Cooper and I'm experiencing a strong, sweet-smelling aroma coming directly through the interior vents when driving. I strongly suspect it's a coolant leak, but I cannot find a visible leak or puddle underneath the car. I am trying to determine if it is the heater matrix or the plastic thermostat housing/crossover pipe.

Details & Symptoms: - The smell is most noticeable when the climate control/heater is running. - I am losing a small amount of coolant over time, but the engine is not currently overheating. - I haven't noticed sodden carpets yet, but the windshield does seem to get a bit greasy/foggy.

Has anyone experienced this specific issue on the R56? If it's pooling on top of the transmission from the thermostat, is that enough to cause a strong smell inside the cabin? Thanks for any advice!
