Black Mountain Credt Trail (open?)

Hello all,

I am tentatively planning on flying out to California in October to try to tackle Cactus2Clouds. I think Bowlens to Deep Gap to Mt Mitchell would be a good stepping stone in September.

I know Helene did a number on this trail and was hoping for some locals to respond here and let me know if the trail is open again—I’m seeing conflicting information online.

Also is the transit authority still running shuttles?

I‘m thinking of going from the bottom up then catch a shuttle back down to my car. Also—if they’re up and running, how does it work reserving a spot and how late do they run?

yes yes I know this is all google-able information and I’ve tried but like I said info is all over. So if any of my fellow Redditors here could respond I’d REALLY appreciate it!

(feel free to chime in with any tips, insights, storie of fist times on the trail, etc)

cheers!

EDIT: aaaaaand typo’d the title. fml

Cactus to Clouds (talk me out of it)

Alright guys, I come in peace and with nothing but love and respect—

With that out of the way, I wanted to have you guys either talk me out of it, or support me in the endeavor.

I’m turning 40 in October and love to hike. I’ve never done anything particularly grueling hiking-wise, but after hearing and reading about this hike I just have this gut feeling that this should be my mission for my 40th birthday. To hike this beast.

I played football in high school, had endless endurance, and remain mentally strong. However I had also seriously slowed down athletically and softened around the middle (and everywhere else).

How feasible is the hike for someone like me? I have three months to train and will do whatever it takes to get myself hike ready. I’ll also welcome any locals that want to join me in this endeavor.

Yes I know this sounds crazy. I assure you I‘m practical, risk averse, and sane. But I also have this itch now. So help a brother out.

Beads! (AKA The final straw and why I deleted the ISRU app)

Got the MY3’s. Became increasingly annoyed as the whole ”get off your phone and live your life” mantra morphed into “post about me on social media you fkn peasants.” Didn’t do a goddamn thing for this entire semester.

Now I get a push notification about fucking beads that you’re charging 25 dollars a pop for something that costs less than a fraction of a penny to make in large quantities?

lmaoooo

if you’re buying these beads, you’re gone bruh. Get Tom Sachs‘ face tattooed on your back so you can always imagine him bending you over.

Cool pennies, but don’t think I’ll be a thousandaire (right?)

Went through a bunch of wheat pennies and these are the two coolest ones I found. The clipped planchet 1920 is my favorite. The D mint mark on the 1958 seems super close. That’s about it. Cheers!

Word on the street is there is a population of chameleons somewhere out there near or in fort Myers. Wondering if anyone here has any insiders info. I’d love to find one and put it in a cute little terrarium and care for it lovingly.

Before anyone says it, I don’t want to buy one in the pet store lol
