The Road - Cormac McCarthy

I finished reading never let me go by Ishiguro which got me into the mood of emotional / deep thinking books. The Road was subsequently recommended to me.

I was in a keen mood to get into the book based on the premise. But it unfortunately felt flat to me. I didn’t love the writing style. Nor his way of describing the scenery. The story and simplicity of it was nice but felt a bit let down. I was ready for an emotional rollercoaster which never happened.

Looking for something deeply "emotionally stirring" with a strong premise (Fell a bit flat on The Road and Never Let Me Go)

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for my next fiction read and could really use some tailored suggestions. I’ve read two heavy hitters recently, but neither quite hit the emotional high water mark I was chasing.

Here is where I'm at:

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro (7/10): I liked the premise and the quiet setup, but I found the book wishing it had been a bit more emotionally stirring.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy: I was incredibly excited going into this because the premise is right up my alley. I really appreciated the simplicity of the story, but unfortunately, it fell pretty flat for me. I couldn't connect with McCarthy's specific writing style, and it didn't end up moving me emotionally the way I had hoped.

Welcome any suggestions based on the above feedback.

Fox just had to hold the ball

Can’t believe fox took the attempted layup. All he had to do was hold the ball. Get fouled. Chance to be up 3.
Brutal decision.
