Tire blow out

Tire blow out

While driving on the freeway we heard a loud pop followed by a “check tire” notification on the dashboard. We pulled into the Lowe’s parking lot and saw a completely flat tire. Maybe caused by heat? It was 96 yesterday.

Called roadside assistance and got towed to the dealership which was closing in 10 minutes. They said nothing will happen til Monday (holiday, etc).

My question is what am I looking at price-wise? And do I have options? Should I buy a spare? Where would I even store it?

Mounting to ceiling joist?

I used a roto zip to cut between the ceiling joists but now I’m only flush with the joist. I want to cut 1/2 away so I have something to screw the new drywall to. I’m worried if I use the roto zip I’ll zigzag all over the place. Plus, this is really old drywall which a razor doesn’t get through. Any ideas?

Wafer lights & insulation

I’d like to install four recessed wafer lights in an upstairs bedroom. I plan to pull power from the light in the center of the ceiling so I can add the new lights to the switch already by the door.

Here’s my attic. Lots of insulation. My question is: do I have to clear away all the insulation so I can staple the new Romex to the joists or can I lay the Romex on top of the insulation as I daisy chain the 4 new lights? Also, do wafer lights need a siloed space like the old can lights currently have or can they just live buried under it? What’s the easiest way to approach this?

I think if I have to rake away everything and replace it I’ll abandon the idea.

I added a smart switch to control the outdoor floodlights. When I realized it wouldn’t work without a neutral I called an electrician. He was here about a half hour and fixed the issue.

This was 5 years ago.

Flash forward to today. I’ve been reading this sub Reddit for the last three years as my interest in DIY projects grew. Out of curiosity I took off the cover to the J box feeding that switch and saw this:

Am I wrong? Did he use the ground as neutral? And if I’m not wrong, what are my options to fix it?

It’s been working perfectly for 5 years. But “ground as neutral” threads have got me spooked.
