Fences recommendation and questions
I had what is for me a weird experience and I wanted to check if this is the norm in Silver Spring. I saw a video on how you could manage to not do a retaining wall which appeals so I called to ask for a estimate. The person I thought gave a legitimate opinion in that I could not do without a retaining wall which meant I would not use them for that project. I asked if they did fences and they said yes so I asked for an estimate on that. I only want one section of the property fenced for privacy which I thought relatively small and the estimate was way higher than I expected. I was told I had to have an architect, that I had to set the posts in cement and that the length was 100 linear feet. The entire side of that property is only 108 feet and I only want the fence from the house back to less that the far back so maybe 70 feet which would include a section from house to fence.
My question is, am I being scammed? Is $15,000 for a fence less that 75' reasonable in this area? My architect which we need for the house construction said that I don't need her for this. That a fence would not require an architect. Second question is, do I have to legally have cement footings? I was taught that this makes the wood fence posts decay quicker? AND lastly, does anyone have someone they would recommend for fencing?
Thanks.
