Eating during quad therapy

Hey all

Did you find that smaller snacks throughout the day was better than the 3 big meals?

I've been trying to keep 3 meals, but taking the pills after them is not easy and might be why I have burning now in my esophagus.

So for those that take their pills after their 3 main meals, do you just wait a couple of hours before you can eat again? Is it safe to have something with calcium at that time?

Burning pain behind breastbone

So the last few days I've been getting a pretty bad burning behind my breastbone. I'm assuming due to tetracycline. I probably took it with too much water for the last 7 days as I was afraid of it getting stuck. Probably sloshed back up?

Anyway, if this is irritation and hurts like this now, wtf is going to happen in the next 5 days and after I stop the PPI? Do I just get more and wean off them over a couple of weeks after being done the treatment?

Taking the pills now after meals send to make it hurt more than alone.

Anyway just curious on how to proceed

Thanks again!

When people take tetracycline, metronidazole and bismuth after their meals, were you given separate prescriptions or Pylera?

Just curious, I see lots of people following this protocol. But I'm curious if they were all separate pills you take at once or were you referring to pylera when you said you took Tetra, Metro, and bismuth after the meals?

NAC during eradication

Hey all

Just a quick question. Anyone try NAC during their treatment?

Think it is worth it?

Half way through quad therapy

Well, 7 days down, 7 to go.

It has not been fun haha. Worse than I anticipated for sure.

Right now, I have a pretty constant burn in my throat and my tongue is tingling, I'm exhausted because I can't sleep. My heart races and has these massive thumps. I'm terrified of my c diff showing up, I'm thinking of how my imo is going to run wild. And apparently my schedule wasn't the best fit the first 7 days... Which is in my head 24/7.

I haven't missed any doses so that's good, but I'm most likely changing up the schedule to where the tetra, metro and bismuth together are taken right after a meal. The schedule is a lot easier and it may prevent the burning I have in my throat/esophagus which might be due to taking tetra by itself away from everything.

I'm hoping it will work. I've lost weight due to not having my normal appetite and also just narrowing down what I can eat, and the exhaustion really.

I really don't know what I'll do if the retest turns up positive.

Anyway, just wanted to share the journey so far. Thanks to all that have taken the time to answer my questions so far - it was very much appreciated

Was I told wrong info?

Ok I'm now getting nervous. If you guys have read my posts, I'm on quad therapy with tetra, metro, bismuth and PPI.

For the last 5 days, I took tetra on an empty stomach alone, and then metro, and bismuth with food as instructed. PPI 30 or so min before food in the am and before supper

The nausea is getting bad, so I'm switching to all three (metro, bis, tetra) after meals.

Am I screwed by separating out the tetra from everything? I'm so pissed off because that was what I was told to do. Google AI says it's actually necessary to take them together - the bismuth sets up the bacteria to be more susceptible to the antibiotics. Is that true??? I mean it's AI, so maybe not, but it's out a massive worry in my head.
Anyone else hear it read this? My understandingv is that they can be taken together for ease, at the cost of slight absorption, but not MORE EFFECTIVE. I feel like crying.

Did anyone else separate or the tetra from EVERYTHING and still eradicated this goddamn bug?

I'm hoping yes....

What's your opinion: take tetra and metro together at the same time or not

This one is interesting to me. 2 pharmacists said it is necessary to take these together. They said it works better than taking them separately.

I asked if it was just for convenience, and they both said no - it actually works better

Had anyone else heard of this?

I swear to God the number of diffident opinions for quad therapy must equal the possible color combos on a Rubik's cube lol

NAC and quad therapy

Has anyone tried to take NAC during their quad therapy? For those that did, what was your end result?

Thanks

Constipation during H.pylori treatment

Hey all

So I have h pylori and IMO. Symptoms are more IMO based, but I have been losing weight and decided to treat the H pylori with quad therapy

The issue is I am not able to have things like coffee which usually triggers some BM.

Magnesium citrate pills are dicey due to the magnesium could bind one of the antibiotics.

What else might get things moving in your experience other than the 2 things that work for me

Thanks

Conspitation during quad therapy?

Is constipation a common side effect of the quad therapy? I'm only on day 3 and things have stopped dead. I'm extra nervous of this due to my IMO, which I just picture in my head is getting worse and worse everyday, leaving me with a battle at the end of the treatment.

What are good ways that you can start things moving again that won't interfere with the h pylori quad therapy.

Thanks

If you had IMO, how did quad therapy affect it?

This is a question for people that have IMO and h. Pylori.

Did treating the h. Pylori skyrocket your IMO issues? I'm petrified that this is going to happen. Before treatment, I tested positive for both h. Pylori and imo. I could still eat what I wanted, but I started losing weight and there was certainly bloating. Blood work was always good, but stools floated for about a year and lately the water looked cloudy as well..tmi.. Sorry

Anyway, it was decided to treat h pylori first. But I'm so worried that it's going to push the manageable IMO into life altering territory.

So I'm just curious to hear what your experiences were with your imo (even sibo) after your h pylori treatment.

Thanks

I'm at my wits end already

Let me start by thanking everyone that has responded to my questions. It is much appreciated.

I started the quad therapy yesterday, with some guidance from my pharmacist, not a lot, but some.

Then I see everyone with different schedules, some of which worked, fairly different from mine.

The reason I'm so focused on getting this schedule right to fight this bug the first time is I have a history of c diff during antibiotics and I was just diagnosed with IMO. This treatment is a danger of making those become problematic

If you went through quad therapy and eradicated h pylori, did you:

  1. Basically take bismuth, tetra and metro together with food or

  2. take them together without food or

  3. Take them separately

I initially had my bismuth fast away from my tetracycline, and my last dose of bismuth was on its own at night.

My ppi in the morning was with tetra, but then I'm being told that's not good

I am so goddamn lost and the pharmacists all say something different, but insist it's the right way .

If you successfully eradicated h pylori, how did you come upv with a schedule and what was it that and how did you just accept it?

I'm doing my schedule right now (attached) but I am really struggling believing in it.

Thanks again everyone. So far you all have helped me keep my sanity and I barely started this journey

Does taking bismuth right before tetracycline increase its potency?

I've been really trying to come up with a schedule for my quad therapy, as you probably know with my posts.

I know I've asked before, buy I am returning to the bismuth, tetracycline reaction. Is it BETTER to take them together (or the bismuth just a bit before the tetracycline), but not really trying to space them apart? I'm really lost now.

I was told it should be separated, and also that it didn't matter. But was never told that taking bismuth right before tetracycline actual increases effectiveness.

Has anyone else heard this?

So confused on the proper quad therapy schedule

I'm starting my 14 day treatment tomorrow.

One pharmacist said to separate my bismuth tablets from the tetracycline. One doctor said it didn't matter.

Any suggestions? I've attached a picture of the schedule that I've peiced together. Does it seem ok?

Thanks so much

2024 cx5 NA steering wheel play

Hey all

There was a different post regarding steering wheel play so I want to expand on that

We have a 2024 cx5 NA night bye 2 years ago.

Since day 1, if the vehicle is on and I'm sitting in say, my driveway in park and I take the wheel and turn it quickly about 1 or 2 inches back and forth fast, it feels like there is no resistance in the range and then if I go beyond this, you can feel resistance.

Does anyone else have this? My older Mazda 3 does not have and this but that car has steering fluid.

I'm just curious because another post was saying their steering rack got replaced due to play in it and I'm wondering if this is what they meant.

I should also say this doesn't seem to be present once moving or turning, or of our is present, it's much less noticeable

Thanks

Bismuth with quad therapy

Hey everyone

I've been given the quad therapy for h pylori (tetra, metro, bismuth, and PPI)

One thing I see is that the bismuth form varies.... Meaning some are given chewable tablets and some are given pills to swallow. Both combustion 262mg bismuth so the dose will be the same.

I was given the pills, non chewable.

I've read these normally contain less calcium than the chewables, which theoretically should be good, but I'm not sure how much less, do not sure it even matters

Anyway, people that have been through this, did you have pills, chewable tablets or even liquid?

I just want to make sure I have everything right before starting this...

Thanks

Dave

Bismuth pills calcium carbonate

Hey all

I was given the quad therapy for h pylori. The bismuth capsules I was given list calcium carbonate in the non active ingredients but don't specify the amount

I was also t just told by the pharmacist that these can be taken the same time as tetracycline. She also said if I don't stomach then we'll they can be eaten with food as well

Is this true? As I'm supposed to avoid calcium.

Everywhere I look there is a different suggestion of what to do, what not to do.....

Have all of you separated the 524mg bismuth from your tetracycline? And did you have the tetracycline with it without food?

Thanks again everyone

Question about period between antibiotics and retest

Hey all

I was just thinking of something. I've been reading on what supplements people take in between the antibiotic treatment and the retest....

Wouldn't it make sense not to take things that would suppress h pylori - just in case it's still there but knocked down. Taking more things that supress it might knock out down below a threshold detection level of you are doing a stool antigen retest?

Thoughts?
