Teen gay lit suggestions
My 13 year old son is bi and loves to read. Any suggestions of teen-appropriate novels or memoirs for him? I'm looking for something with some romance but nothing too wild, high school love story stuff. Thanks!

I am a relatively new fan, been into to Will for about a year, and I'm curious if he's ever talked about recording covers. Maybe he does them in shows, but I have never seen a video of one. Has he mentioned why?
I can guess a few reasons, wanting to be genuine and only record/perform his own stuff, not wanting to confuse fans and make them think he wrote something he didn't, not wanting to take from other artists. But I just wonder if he has ever explicitly addressed this?
Edit: Thanks for letting me know about his Velocity of Love cover, I love it!
Question for ya: What song would you love to hear him cover?
I know vegans are not the only ones who eat a lot broccoli, but I think many of us eat more than the average person...
I recently learned this trick from Instagram and it has made me so happy, so I wanted to pass it on. When you get a big ol' broccoli stem, if you would normally throw it away/compost it and only cook the florets, you can cut off the stem and peel or cut away the skin and eat the core of the stem raw, and it tastes seriously so good! If you have never done this, try it before you knock it! I don't normally like raw broccoli, but I love having the stem this way. 🥦
I am older than y'all so it's probably not that weird that none of my friends have gotten into Will when I've recommended his music to them, but it still bums me out. I have not met a single person who has even heard of him.
I was at a Crane Wives concert last week and I saw a young woman wearing a Will Wood sweatshirt and I wanted to run up to her and say "YOU KNOW!" but she was walking into the bathroom and I thought that would be weird... So far that is the only time I have ever seen another soul who knows who Will Wood is. I have had dreams that I hear his music playing over a speaker, like you know, at a store or wherever, and I'm SO excited because, wow someone else knows his music!
I want so bad to have a friend that I can talk to about his music and art and everything. Is this just an age thing? Do you know people who know Will's music? How have your friends reacted when you have suggested his music to them?
I wanted to share a recent success I had backpacking with my 13 year old son. I'm the mom, my husband doesn't like camping, so my son and I have gone two years in a row to a site we learned about through his one year in Scouts.
It's an easy hike in, 2.8 miles of mostly flat-ish trail with a few hills, lots of fun creek crossings and pretty scenery. Last year I loaded up my pack with all the heavy stuff and gave him only the lightest items, this year he is the same height as me (5'3" 😅) and I was able to even out the packs a little more (though I still took more weight). I did NOT do a good job at minimizing weight and did lots of dumb stuff like take too many books and a hammock we barely used, so there were a few painful moments on the hike where I regretted some of my life decisions... but it was all part of the experience and learning!
One thing I did right this time was to use hiking poles, what a difference they made on the hills and creek crossings!
We just camped one night, but he wants to try a two-nighter next year at a new location.
A few of my lessons learned and future plans: Get a smaller bear canister. Rehyrdate food in the packs. Don't bring books, bring a magazine or something. Don't bother with a hammock. Get a floppy hat to keep bugs away (my kid HATES flies). Bring more socks. Don't forget the extra headlamp batteries. Condition before you go. Don't lose your reading glasses. 😩
I just wanted to share and see who else has gone backpacking with their kid, how it has gone, and maybe give me some tips for next year!
I wanna know how it was!
Back in the day before I was a WW fangirl, I was a Jens Lekman fangirl. I think fans of ICIMI would like his stuff, so if you’re looking for some “new” music, check him out!
I love how his songs are little stories, also his voice is lovely, and his lyrics are so heartfelt. Many of his songs are unique takes on love songs that feel very personal.
Some of my faves that I think WW fans might like are: A Postcard to Nina, Your Arms Around Me, You Are the Light, The Opposite of Hallelujah, Happiness Will Be My Revenge (with The Sweptaways), A Little Lost (cover of an Arthur Russell song), How Can I Tell Him.
If you already are a Jens fan, tell me in the comments what your favorite songs are!
Sorry if this is too off-topic for the group, but I recently saw Hadestown in the theater, and goddamn that play is great. There is a lot in it that would appeal to WW fans. 🎹💀🌸
If you don't know it, check out the Broadway cast recording, it's fab. But don't listen to the third-to-last track, Doubt Comes In, if you want to see the show and you don't want a spoiler! The show is on tour, if you wanna see if it's coming to your city.
