Syringomyelia and Craniocervical Junction Abnormalities in Chihuahuas
I came across this study earlier today:
https://academic.oup.com/jvim/article/31/6/1771/8449389?login=false
It's on neurological conditions in chihuahuas, notably syringomyelia and chiari malformation. The results of this study are concerning to say the least, as they suggest that these conditions could be widespread in chihuahuas. However I am confused - I have never heard of a chihuahua with these issues, and neurological conditions (with the exception of hydrocephalus) aren't highlighted in lists of common health problems chihuahuas can have. I understand that my experience isn't the same as data, but I am wondering if my experience is common in chihuahua owners. Are you aware of chihuahuas with any of the conditions mentioned in the paper? Or are you like me and this has come as a complete surprise?
