I carved this jack o’ lantern at the pumpkin party today!

I decided to give it a shot and see if I could put one of my favorite designs on a pumpkin; I think it came out pretty well!

Anyone dealt with getting back a lapsed nursing license?

Hello, my background is in nursing, but I took a break for a bit (my kids needed extra help) and I allowed my nursing license to lapse. It’s been inactive for three years now. The office of professional regulation mentions additional steps for nurses with a 5+ year lapse, but nothing specific for people in my shoes.

If anyone has been in my position and reinstated their lapsed license, I’d love to hear from them; advice, tips, whatever! Thanks in advance.

Loss of Appetite on Slynd

I started taking slynd about three weeks ago, to help with symptoms of perimenopause. So far so good! The one side effect I have is loss of appetite. I looked into it, and let my OBGYN know just in case; as it can be indicative of liver issues when paired with other symptoms. They’re not concerned.

I have no other symptoms and I’m slightly overweight (5’2”, 152lbs when I started). I gained about 30 lbs in the past two years due to perimenopause, so this size is new. I accept myself, and like how I look. I have lost six pounds since starting, and am down to 146lbs now.

I’m curious about others experiences with this on slynd. Did you lose a lot of weight? Did your appetite return? I don’t really mind losing weight, I just want to know what to expect.

Thanks for reading, any advice welcome

I thought “shy” was a euphemism for “rude”

I’m very extroverted, outgoing, and friendly. This was even more exaggerated when I was a young child. I was always running up to other kids, no matter where I was, and trying to make friends.

Occasionally, I’d run into a child that would ignore me, bury their head in their parent or just not want anything to do with me. My mother would tell me “oh, they’re just shy”. I had no concept of shy. Being nervous to talk to new people did not compute for me. I just found their behavior rude.

So, for most of my young childhood, I thought shy was just a polite way of calling someone rude. Now that I’m older, I understand some people are just shy.

Not hearing back after an interview

Your time is so precious that you can’t give me the curtesy of a quick email explaining you’re not interested? I put in a ton of effort, polished my resume, wrote a cover letter, dressed up, and went to the interview. I even wrote a thank you.

Now the “you’ll hear by” date has passed, but I haven’t heard anything. I guess that’s a “no”. Instead of letting me come to the realization slowly as the hours pass, it would have been nice to just know I didn’t get it. Thanks, I guess I’ll keep looking.

I thought chick-fil-a was pronounced chick-fil-uh.

I’m not a complete idiot, I swear. I was a teen, and I lived in an area that did not have chick-fil-a. Then, I went to visit family in Texas. They were everywhere! In my head, I pronounced the end “uh” instead of “a”. Then I heard my cousin say it out loud, and felt stupid.

Either way, I’ve never eaten at one.

Genetically modify large animals to be cat-sized and docile so we can keep them as pets.

The title, essentially. How cool would it be to have a tiny giraffe in your house? Or a small domesticated caribou. I would personally love a tiny black bear.

“Plant derived” and “all natural”

These distinctions do not make a product healthy or good for you. Crack is also plant derived, and the hemlock plant will strait up kill you. Arsenic and uranium are naturally occurring. It means nothing.

They’re health buzzwords designed to confuse people, and people fall for it.

Clam chowder

He walked in and sat down at one of the high top tables in my section. What appeared to be a man in his 70’s, tall, with wild white hair and a fisherman’s hat.

He sat facing the TVs, and did not smile when I greeted him. He ordered clam chowder. I rang it in, and got busy. Another waitress brought it. He yelled at her because it was not hot enough. I took it back, nuked the shit out of it, put it into a cool bowl so no one would burn their hands, and severed it to him. He ate it up without smiling.

He came back. Week after week. Always the same day, always during my shift, always at the high tops, always facing the TV. He never smiled, never made small talk. Just ordered his clam chowder, and reminded me that it needed to be HOT! I would smile gently, and tell him, “oh I know, I remember”.

One week, it was quiet. He hadn’t shown yet. I noticed a lady in my section. She was facing the TV. She appeared to be a tall woman in her 70’s, with her white hair in a neat pony tail. I went to greet her, and she smiled, nervously.

“The usual?” I asked.

“Yes, very hot!”

“I know, I remember” I told her.

We chatted for the first time. She told me she was moving away, to be with her girlfriend.

I never saw her after that. I hope wherever she is, she’s happy, and her soup is hot.

Edible Olympics

Get a bunch of average adults together, have them eat large doses of marijuana edibles and compete in different fun events. Not actual Olympic activities, but the things you’d do at field day in school; running through tires, relay races, water ballon tosses, all while very stoned. Air it on TV, let people place bets on “athletes”.

Hello, I have two sealed bottles of NAC (the supplement) that I’m giving away. My provider suggested it, I stocked up, it gave me heartburn, I don’t want it. None of my friends or family take it, and the place I bought it from won’t take a return on it, so I’m coming here to see if anyone would like it. I can meet.

My own fat fingering when I’m trying to type something out is infuriating, but nothing hits quite like thinking you’ve typed “in” and realizing you’ve typed “I.” and inadvertently started a new sentence. Having to then go back and fix an entire sentence pisses me off to no end.
