Colostrum?

I just started collecting colostrum as I was told it is great for regulating blood sugar levels for baby incase her sugar drops after delivery, as well as if she ends up needing some nicu time. Anyone here that collected have any advice? I’m not sure how to go about bringing it with me. I’m collecting in sterile syringes and freezing it. Do I bring all that I collect between now and when I give birth? I’m almost 35 weeks and inducing at 37 weeks- I got clearance from my OB to hand express. Whats the best way to pack it? I dont live far from the hospital- not even 10 minutes away but idk how it’ll work lol. Also any tips regarding collecting colostrum 100% appreciated!

Huge baby

At 30 weeks 2 days my baby was measuring 4lbs 12oz. I’m 34 weeks 1 day and today my baby measured to be about 7lbs. I started off with 8.5 a1c and have only made it down to 7 recently. I know t1d’s are more prone to bigger babies but I still feel so awful 😓 I’ll find out next week when I will be giving birth whether its induction or c-section (I figure prob c-section bc of how big she already is) and am just so nervous and hope I’m not harming her. Will she come out needing nicu time? This is my first and I just feel like I’m fucking it up ugh

Birth questions?

Hi all! I’m currently 32+ 3 days pregnant and just having some questions related to giving birth and whatnot. My mfm is so far saying 37-38 0/7 weeks for delivery. I haven’t gotten a clear answer on induction or c-section but am curious about both and would love to hear others experiences. As I get closer I am more and more nervous about giving birth and just the whole thing. I don’t think I’m leaning more towards one or the other (though maybe your answers will change that), I really just wanna get this baby out of me (healthily ofc lol). I’ve had a somewhat rough pregnancy- so much body pains as well as the mental anguish with my diabetes care and the million appts and working full time and still trying to do things at home and SLEEP.

Anyway enough ranting- if you have had a c-section, how was that? I know they give you drugs but you have to be awake ofc.. did you feel any of it as it was happening- them cutting into you or their hands inside of your body? Lol makes me a little queasy thinking about it as I don’t even do good with stuff like blood draws😅. How was the healing process? Anything I should know if I happen to have a c-section?

If you had a vaginal birth (induced), how was that? I’ve heard that being induced hurts much more than a spontaneous birth and that lots of inductions lead to a c-section, is that true? Obviously I know everyone has different pain tolerances but I’d just like a general idea of the vaginal birth experience.

Shes a year and some change old, I found her as a tiny little kitten outside of a walmart and had to take her. When I found her she had a laceration on her ear which slowly became necrotic and died off so she is my special little one earred kitty. Type A vs Type B diabetics

Are you a Type A or Type B person when it comes to your diabetes? I feel like over the years I’ve become more and more Type B with my diabetes lol- I was diagnosed at like 9-10 years old and did everything by the books, checking my sugar a lot and logging it and logging my carbs and insulin in notebooks and whatnot to slowly not checking my sugar as often and reusing pen needles until they were too dull to go into my skin to now ofc it being easier where I’m just on Omnipod 5 and Dexcom G7 but am still pretty Type B when it comes to changing it, I wait until my dexcom expires after the 12 hour grace period and I usually don’t change my Omnipod until it’s really low (it has 17 units in it right now and my dexcom has 16 hours before grace period). I also can’t remember the last time I actually carb counted.. I just guess an amount and call it a day.

Baby’s growth

I’m 30 weeks 2 days and my baby is measuring at 4.1lbs. At my last appt at 27 weeks 2 days she measured 2.8lbs. My mfm raised some concerns and has me very worried. My a1c was 7.5 over a month or so ago and I switched to stronger insulin and now my dexcom shows 7.0 which is better but ofc not pregnancy range. I have issues getting it much lower as it is unsustainable with me working full time - I cant deal with lows every other hour and I personally cannot deal with so many lows at night time waking me up multiple times when I also have to work. I am currently using omnipod 5 and am on U200 humalog, but when I first started using it my dexcom showed my a1c at 6.8 which I struggled with many lows trying to maintain. Anyways idk just nervous and not sure what to expect or if my baby will be okay. I’m not due until 9/21 which I obviously never expected to make it to by doctors words but this is making it seem like my baby will need to be here even sooner or something and I’m just scared about the whole thing. Has anyone else dealt with the same or similar that can offer their experience and possibly reassurance?

Swelling

I’m 28 weeks pregnant (t1d) and have so far had good blood pressure readings at all of my appointments, but have just recently noticed some swelling in my feet, specifically my ankles. They are gone they are now cankles😞 lol when I google it, it says foot swelling is normal and to watch out for face/hand swelling and other symptoms for pre-e. Should I not be worried?

How to make the perfect insulin pump

I saw my endo today and one of the first things she asked me was, “If you could add a feature to your Omnipod, what would it be?” And I thought about it for a sec and said I wish it had a feature where I could schedule a dose of insulin ahead of time. It would be so amazing for me whenever I’m at work and getting ready to go on my lunch, as I often forget to prebolus until right before my meal or even while eating sometimes.. my lunch time always changes but is generally between 4:30-6 depending on my shift so if I could schedule my lunch bolus it would be so freaking awesome😩

Anyways, what about you guys? If you could add a feature to your pump that would make it perfect, what would you add?

U200 insulin

Hi all,

I recently posted because my endo switched my novolog U100 to humalog U200. I use the omnipod 5 system for reference but anyways, I’m just wondering if anyone else has had issues with it? For my novolog, my basal rate was set at 2.65 units/hour so when I switched to the U200 my doctor set it at 1.33 which isnt an option, and bc of my insulin resistance I decided to set it at 1.35 but I have only been using this insulin since 6/2 and have almost every other day had to set the basal lower and lower because I keep having lows especially through the night. I have just set my mew basal rate to 1unit/hour to try because it is 4am and I am waking up to yet another low blood sugar. I came home from work at like 8pm last night with a low sugar and have eaten ice cream, dinner (pork chop, roasted potatoes, broccoli), and banana pudding all without any kind of bolus… my sugar went up to like 170 total after the banana pudding which I ate at like 10-11pm.

I just don’t get why I’m having issues because it should be the same amount I was already taking right? I have had t1d since I was like 9 for reference, and I am currently 25 weeks pregnant. I don’t know if any of these factors make a difference as to why I’m struggling with this. Could it perhaps be a sensitivity to the new insulin? Because I have always used novolog since being diagnosed so idk if that could be it or if its pregnancy related or what but I am not having fun!!

When I started having issues with low sugars at night while pregnant I stopped taking a bolus with dinner and/or dessert, which would initially bring my sugar pretty high but slowly come down throughout the night because I am already getting shittier sleep, and I work so I cannot be waking up 2-3 times a night but even this isn’t working with the new insulin ugh. I like that it has helped keep my sugars better in general as I am not in pregnancy range a1c wise but god I cannot deal with so many lows. Before pregnancy my a1c was between like 8-9 and as of a month ago it tested as 7.5 and according to my dexcom, since pregnancy it has ranged between 6.9-7.5 which is the lowest it has ever been. I know it isn’t pregnancy perfect like recommended but I honestly cannot go much lower than that without complications in my daily life lol I work and cannot stop so many times to deal with lows.

Kinda went on a rant there whoops but anyways if anyone has any ideas to what’s going on please clue me in😭😭

U200 Insulin in Omnipod 5

I am currently 23 weeks pregnant and just went to my endo appointment. I use a lot of insulin- I was overweight prior to pregnancy and have bad insulin resistance so was always using a high dose but am currently changing my omnipods every day or so. Before pregnancy I had researched a little about the possibility of U200 insulin in the pump and even though it isn’t approved, there has been much success. Idk why I’m posting about it but lol if anyone did/is doing the same thing during their pregnancy lmk how thats going! Maybe someone will see this post who also struggles with bad insulin resistance and maybe can ask their dr about it too.

Pre-e

I’m 21 weeks pregnant and I’m a t1d (have been since 2015). So far everything looks pretty good- my urine protein test was 189 and my blood pressures haven’t been high besides two early visits around like 10 and 11 weeks (which I think was just white coat htn). Just wondering for those of you who have gotten preeclampsia, when did you start noticing symptoms or when did you get diagnosed with that?

Hi all! I’m currently dealing with financial debt due to when I didn’t have health insurance. I had to pay out of pocket and I racked up some debt from it. I’m hoping some of my other fellow diabetics can understand the hardship I’ve gone through and anyone with the means to do so can help. I got approved this year for Medicaid so I no longer have issues with medical bills but am still struggling with the debt from before that time. Anything helps really. Thanks for your support!

Hi all! I’m 19 weeks pregnant and I have t1d. Everything has been going well so far and baby girl is looking great. Measuring slightly ahead but still within normal range. I’ve just been curious about some things like the birth process and breastfeeding. Do most diabetics get induced? I’ve seen some c-section some vaginal and my doctor said in the beginning they push for vaginal and they haven’t said anything otherwise so idk. If I do get induced, does that affect breastfeeding in anyway? Also speaking of breastfeeding, how has that been for you other t1ds? My doctors have also not mentioned anything about it nor have I asked but I would really love to breastfeed if I can. Does milk come in the same time as non diabetics or are there any complications that make it more difficult to breastfeed?

Anyone with personal experiences on this please give your input!
