Times Square by Michael Storrings - Galison 1000 pcs

Times Square by Michael Storrings - Galison 1000 pcs

This is my second Storrings/Galison puzzle and it went remarkably quick. I worked from the top down, hitting buildings, signs, and then the people. Fun and quick, especially compared to the London puzzle I did earlier this year.

Is it really that chilly at Oracle Park?

Hey all. Coming in from out of town and catching the Friday night game on 8/28. I bought a ticket in the Splash Zone, so I’m right on the water. Is it really that chilly at night out there?

EDIT: The amount of concurring quick responses has me convinced. Jacket it is!

Mixtapes by Galison, 1000 pieces

As a person of a certain age, I was drawn to this puzzle for all the nostalgia. This was fun and a quick build. A good weeknight after-work distraction.

After almost 15 years

I love that loan balance being one payment away. I took a 15-year home-buying loan. Also took a shorter term loan in ‘23 to finance my mother-in-law’s funeral, which was paid off earlier this year.

As for me, I’m 45, 24 years full-time (28 years with temp time). Taken a few hardships over the years, but finally in a good place financially and even bumped up my contributions to 7%. Aiming for the end of my 57th year, which would give me 35.5 plus whatever sick leave I have.

Plane Flying Above Clouds - VETEB - 1000 pieces

A Father’s Day gift from my daughter, combining my love of landscape puzzles and my life working in aviation. Thick pieces, background is gridded for easy assembly. AI? Probably. But it’s beautiful to me and it will be a wonderful addition to the wall of my office.

It’s available on Amazon and is overpriced for my taste, but as a gift, I am glad I got it.

Has a manager ever been fired between a doubleheader's games?

This is the thought that crosses my mind as my phone lights up with the news that Dansby Swanson has 7 ribbies today.

7 ribbies. Off two homers.

Merry Mixer by Galison - 1000 pieces

I needed something fun after my last one (Buffalo Games’ Forest Magic Hour), and this one delivered. It pieces like a bunch of mini puzzles. Love that Galison quality and love the use of foil with the brilliant colors. This one took three nighttime sessions and was quite fulfilling.

Forest Magic Hour by Buffalo Games, 1000 pcs

This one was a beast. The lower third’s rocks are similar enough to require close attention, and the leaves weren’t as easy as they figured to be. I also thought the black/gray water would be more difficult but it wasn’t.

Puzzle quality is amazing. The pieces are thick and glossy. Had a couple of false fits but I’ll chalk that up to the puzzle being challenging.

Trefl - The Charms of Venice - 1000 pieces

Another fun one from the Trefl sale back in April. I started with the water, migrated to the skies, and finished with the buildings on the right. I ended up working inward from the edges but the buildings were distinct enough that it wasn’t necessary. Not too challenging but also not too easy.

Trefl - In the Jungle - 1000 pieces

This was the most challenging puzzle I’ve done in a while. Lots of vibrant colors and very little patterns to build off of makes it feel like it is impossible. The yellow pieces were tremendous and blending together. I got down to under 100 pieces and I just separated them by shape and brute-forced my way to completion.
