What is your typical sorting process?
I did a 1k puzzle to unwind last night and decided not to do any sorting and just flip pieces over. I was prompted to try this by a comment on this sub that asked me why I bothered sorting if I dislike it so much.
It turns out not sorting was so much worse than doing a crude prelim sort. Rooting through the box looking for pieces? Hated it and it was murder on my neck. After piecing together one small section I went back through the loose pieces and sorted into 3 piles.
It was a massive difference and had the puzzle done in no time after that. So there's the answer as to why I'll always do a prelim color sort with as few piles as I can work with.
----------
For context, my typical sort process is to toss pieces in roughly 3-6 heaping piles as I flip the pieces over (based on color or pattern), and even that minimal effort is the part of the puzzling process I dislike because I want to get straight to piecing.
I'll only sort by shape if I'm working on something like a huge sky section that's all the same color and pretty flat without varying shades.
Is it worth getting a fancy new puzzle board?
Hello fellow puzzlers. I have a pretty basic wooden puzzle board with drawers that does the job. It fits 1000 piece puzzles. But I keep getting ads for bigger boards online and my birthday is coming up, I'm wondering is it worth it? The kind that tilts or spins around, could anyone that has one please give me an honest review? My back can get a bit sore after an extended period of puzzling, does the tilt actually help? Also, my current board is light enough to lift off the table and put into the spare room when we need the space, which is essential with our large family! So I don't want anything that's going to be too big and awkward to move. Any advice/recommendations gratefully received!

[Theme] Independence Hall. Dowdle. 500
The poster is well used. I’ll photocopy it before sending it to its next home. I always think these smaller puzzle will go by quickly, but the random cut slows me down a bit. Not that im complaining, I like varying the kids of puzzles I do.
After over a month I'm finally done sorting
I love the idea of 2000+ piece puzzles but boy am I learning I hate sorting them. This is my third 2000 piece puzzle and I really struggled with the sorting.
I like sorting based on image/section when doing most of my puzzles, but with 2000 pieces I'm finding that what I end up doing is taking forever scrutinizing a piece and just end up running my hand through the box of pieces hoping I find something obvious that sticks out. My first 2000 piece puzzle felt easy to sort because it was really just three sections, sky, trees and a castle. The ones after haven't been as simple of a composition.
I finally decided a couple days ago that I was going to give up sorting by section and just sort by piece shape. Basically started over from scratch. It took many hours, longer than it probably should have because I can get distracted easily and spend half an hour on my phone or puttering around the house when I'd meant to get a cup of tea, but I got it done! It took ten of my 12 large trays to get every piece to be laid out flat.
Now I can actually do the part I enjoy most, actually putting it together! Although I do have to say it's so satisfying neatly lining up all the pieces.
Wildflower Picnic, 500 pieces
Thank you for the redditer that posted this one up a few days ago and influenced me to purchase it. Love this image that is almost vintage looking.
Also enjoyed how the inside of the puzzle box looked like a picnic basket.
My only complaint was that the pieces were more glossy than I preferred.
Noah’s Ark - Dowdle 1000 🧩
Medium difficulty, really enjoyed it.
Took me about 3 weeks on and off, sorting was a nightmare but once it’s over and you get to know the puzzle it was quite enjoyable.
I don’t think I’ll be framing this one for my home though.

Cloudberries Daydream 1,000 pieces
First time putting a Cloudberries puzzle. I really love the image and feel of the puzzle pieces. The completed puzzle is very satisfying but it’s not without its flaws
The Good:
- fun unique image
- vibrant colors made the image pop
- matte, sturdy and thick pieces made the puzzle physically satisfying to handle
- good fit. Tight enough it passed the pickup test but not too tight that it’s a pain to dissemble
The Bad:
- the #1 Giant poster - Does it really need to be the same size as the puzzle? I usually use the box as reference so this shouldn’t be an issue but this is where another problem comes in
- the color discrepancy between the box and actual puzzle. The colors of the box image are significantly more saturated. In the last photo, you can see that the flower petals are more dark orange in the box but mustard yellow in the puzzle
- false fits. This has the most false fits I’ve encountered in a puzzle.
Overall, I enjoyed it but not worth the price tag imho . Their Gradient puzzle has been in my wishlist for a long time (and other designs they have) but now I’m hesitant to buy more puzzles from this brand.
What is everyone’s experience with Cloudberries?

I made a tiny Goodreads-style tracker for jigsaw puzzles and would love feedback from puzzlers
Hi puzzlers! I’ve been playing with an idea for a simple “Goodreads for jigsaw puzzles” app called PuzzleShelf.
It’s a very early MVP, so I’m mostly trying to learn whether the basic idea feels useful. Right now it lets you log puzzles, track shelf/status, rating, difficulty, dates, notes, wishlist items, challenge progress, and simple stats.
It runs in the browser and saves data locally, so there are no accounts, no social features, no ads, and no database yet. I’m intentionally keeping it small before building anything bigger.
I’d love feedback on:
- Would you use something like this?
- What fields are missing?
- Is the shelf/status setup right?
- What would make it genuinely useful for puzzle people?
I can share a link to it in the comments if you're interested!
Rainy Lake Puzzles - Nijinsky in The Afternoon of a Faun by Leon Bakst - 510 pieces
I found this at a thrift store. From what I can tell, Rainy Lake did hand cut wooden puzzles. This was good quality, fun, but very challenging. The puzzle did not match the image on the box which was very confusing until we had enough of the puzzle together to find the image online.
Unfortunately it is missing a piece, which is disappointing because this is such an interesting and unique puzzle.
