Beijing dealing with invasives from North America

They gave is lanternflies and we gave them web worms. It's like invasive pest diplomacy.

Which chestnuts is it?

I live in central Massachusetts and have a meadow where I've let things take their own course. Unfortunately, it's 60% cleavers and 39% invasive volunteers. Today I noticed THIS and am so excited to see which type of chestnut it is. Any guesses?

The horror!

This spring I put up a fence between my yard and my neighbors'. The unexpected con has been that I no longer keep his invasive weeds under control. Saw this ToH poking up on the other side of the fence and found it brought company.

Tax lien certificates?

Apologies if this is not the best forum for this question but does anyone have advice on tax lien certs as an investment? I know there's a lot of variance in how different municipalities operate but are there some rules of thumb? For example, principle to interest ratios to target, common fees to be aware of, targeting business owners vs personal owners....

I know this is considered a risky investment strategy, so please don't reply if that's the limit of your insight. Thanks.

Fireflies near the city?

Random question, but is anyone aware of any healthy firefly populations in or near the city? I'm looking to kidnap some for my meadow.

What have I got in my "garden?"

Do you want to play a game? I live in central Massachusetts.

  1. Narrow leaf plaintain? I love fried plaintain, but I don't see anything tasting growing out of this.

  2. False dandelion? The pictures I see online have serrated leaves but these are small and smooth.

  3. Not stinging nettle, please. Give me hope!

  4. One of many grass types growing back there. This one is quite tall. 2+ feet on the seed bearing shoots. Maybe Blue Grass?

  5. This is the predominant grass and the one I like the best. What is it and is it worth letting it seed on its own?

Unidentified volunteers

I'm trying to allow parts of my yard to grow into native plant areas. Last year I planted a number of natives but I still have a bunch of other things popping up. Please help me confirm what these 4 plants are and whether they are natives to New England.

  1. Some kind of wild brassica. Likely not native?

  2. Maybe black-eyed susan? Likely native.

  3. Unsure

  4. Unsure but I hate it.
