Dear Cyclists on American River Trail...

Please follow trail etiquette. The trail is explicitly marked that runners and pedestrians must keep to the left, facing oncoming cyclist traffic. When passing, cyclists cut to the inside of the trail, and everyone else cuts to the outside. If there is not room to pass due to a crowd, please slow down. These rules are basic etiquette and are consistent with most paved/laned trails in California.

I almost got hit 3 times today on a long run by oncoming cyclists who tried to cut to the outside rather than the inside. One of them gestured that I was on the wrong side, which I was not.

Sincerely, a runner and fellow cyclist.

How long to recover from mild flu before resuming training?

I'm 10 weeks out from race day, running between 20-30 mpw. This week I'm supposed to start ramping up to 30-40, for 4 weeks, then spend 3 weeks at 40-50 before tapering off.

But last week I had a big week-long family event for which I had to fly across country. I did a decent job of running while I was there, but I got terrible sleep and got sick when coming back.

Sickness is mild flu, cough, muscle and headaches, and some congestion. I've rested for a couple days, but I'm nervous about falling too far behind, especially since I'm supposed to start ramping up.

My thought is either (a) rest for the whole week and get all the way better, or (b) just do shorter easy runs for the week.

Which option is better? Or is there a better way to handle this?

Thanks in advance!

Pro plumber tried to snake a tub drain and failed. Tried myself and failed. What now?

House is about 50 years old, single story on concrete pad. Shower was draining slow for a couple weeks and then stopped completely. I've had intermittent problems with this, so I finally called a plumber. He tried to snake it and said there was some significant blockage about 10 feet down. He suggested a sewer line clean out.

We go outside and - lo and behold - the only clean out is on the city side. So he quotes me for the company to install two sided clean out, and I figure sure, that will make regular maintenance easier. The crew comes by and installs the two sided clean out. Next day, a different guy comes by, flushes the sewer line and says it's clean. I take him inside to show him the bathtub full of multi-day old standing water. He says his supervisor will call me. By then, it's Friday afternoon, and no one is calling until Monday.

I've been hand pumping the standing water out of the shower to keep the smell down, but I'm fed up and out the money for an expensive install which didn't solve my problem. I decide to try snaking the drain myself and - even though I'm not a pro - put a LOT more effort into it.

But I fail too. There is definitely something about 10 feet down there - and it's not just hair and the wife's expensive hair mask residue.

Anyone have any ideas? I really don't want to spend more on the plumbing company since their expensive solution did not fix my problem, though it may be useful in the long run.

EDIT

This really blew up! Thanks to all who gave great advice. I have already ordered a cheap camera from Amazon and will see what is going on.

As for the plumbing company, they are very large and have a great reputation in my area, so I'm hoping they will handle it well. Maybe that's naive, but we cling to hope in these troubled times.

Hey OC - this may be hard for you to grasp, but I don't work for YOU.

Oh, you don't remember the phone call we had 4 months ago where you said you'd talk to your client about coming up with a settlement demand because this isn't worth litigating? Oh, you forgot that I sent you an email immediately following that conversation to memorialize our talk with bullet points laying out our client's position and what we expected for next steps? Oh, the statute of limitations is almost up for your client to bring their case and now you have to decide whether to file a risky lawsuit or drop this entirely? OH, you're mad AT ME because I didn't REMIND you that the SOL is nearly here? You want ME to remind YOU to do your FUCKING job?

Pardon me while I laugh and laugh and laugh...
