Looking for advice on improving CAD for 3.5 ct emerald cut E-ring!
My partner and I are on the 4th draft of our CAD for my 14k gold, 3.5 ct emerald cut, 2 mm engagement ring, but something feels wonky. I’d love input on what might need to be adjusted!
Originally, I wanted a slightly vintage-inspired ring (just simple enough to not feel busy, but with a few special details that would give it some old fashioned elegance) with no other diamonds, but as time went on, I wanted to incorporate baguettes. I have minimal finger space (US 3.25) and nothing really looked right, until I struck up the idea to do a baguette hidden halo. My searches brought up a few people that had done it before, so I sent inspiration over, and this is what we got.
My biggest issue, I think, is that the hidden halo doesn’t look as seamless the ones I sent — it feels extra chunky. I wanted this to be a subtle detail that would sort of blend into the center stone from a distance, but instead it feels like it’s chunk-ifying the whole design. I also reduced from 4 baguettes to 3 because I wanted more elongated stones (the top picture in the collage I sent — photo #2 — was my main inspiration), but I think the baguettes need to be a bit more elongated to fill in the end gaps.
Additionally, I can’t tell if the arms of the basket are hanging kind of low, but they don’t look right. I also really hate the shape of the basket from underneath. I’m not sure if it’s just because of the way CADs tend to look, but it feels off to me — the X shape doesn’t feel like it matches the overall vibe of the ring, but I haven’t seen another basket that flows any better.
Another point in terms of the shape of the basket: I’m feeling really bored looking at the gallery area above the engraving. This is usually my favorite part of a cathedral setting, but nothing about this catches my eye. The shape doesn’t flow well to me and feels like it’s almost drooping.
I can’t put words to some of what I’m seeing, but I know I’m seeing it and I don’t know how to adjust properly. I’ve tried pouring over inspiration photos, but nothing feels “just right.”
Any input is so, so appreciated!
