Are some Opae ula shrimps naturally white?

New Opae Ula owner. I’ve gotten my shrimps now for a week in my tank. 3 of the shrimps came white, and they are still white. Are there naturally white Opae ula shrimps or do I need to wait longer for them to get their red color?

Tried to get a photo of the white ones but they swim too fast and my camera isn’t that great.

Other than that, they all seem healthy and happily swimming around.

How long do I need to let the tank grow biofilm for?

Just got my jar and lava rocks today. How long do I need to let the tank grow biofilm for before adding Opae ula?

Gemini advised me this, is this true?
“Many experienced Opae ula keepers prefer introducing the shrimp shortly after setup, as the shrimp themselves help create the biological balance needed for the jar.

- How it works: You introduce the shrimp and the water they were shipped in. The waste they produce acts as the initial fertilizer for the algae and biofilm.

- Feeding: If you use this method, feed a tiny amount of high-quality, algae-based food (like Spirulina powder) once or twice a week for the first 4–6 weeks. This provides a bridge until your jar's natural ecosystem takes over.”

Thanks!

I made a 5-minute reflection quiz about your relationship with AI. Looking for candid feedback.

Over the past decade of working closely with people, I’ve become increasingly interested in how AI may shape the ways we think, process emotions, and make decisions. I do not think using AI is inherently a problem, but I do think it is worth being intentional about the role it plays in our lives.

I made a short, 5-minute reflection quiz about our relationship with AI using only Claude, and I would value feedback from this community.

This was built entirely through conversations with Claude. I described what I wanted, the 15 quiz questions, the scoring logic across the three areas, the triangle-style results visual, and later a PDF export and a Google Sheets connection to log anonymous responses, and Claude wrote all the actual code, HTML, and JavaScript behind it. I don't code myself. This is the first website and tool I've built, and every part of it, from the question flow to the results page to the backend pieces, came out of that back and forth with Claude.

The quiz is designed as a quick self-reflection tool, not a diagnostic or scientific assessment. It explores three areas:

  • Sovereignty: How much you trust your own judgment
  • Reliance: How much emotional support or reassurance you seek from AI
  • Partnership: How intentionally you collaborate with AI

It does not collect identifying information. I only look at aggregated patterns.

I am not a developer, and this is the first website and tool I have built, so I am open to candid feedback.

If you try it, I would love to know:

  1. Did any question or result feel especially useful, unclear, or off-base?
  2. Did it help you reflect on your AI use in a meaningful way?
  3. What would make the experience more useful or trustworthy?

My Nerite Snail likes to go on Merry Go Round

I have a rotating filter pipe that skims the surface and my nerite snail likes the ride. Not the first time I found the snail like this.
