Non-owner questions about Light Phone III

Hi there.

I had dismissed the LP as an option for a minimal phone mostly because I absolutely need WhatsApp (living in South America), a better music player and more robust maps/navigation software (Waze, for example, I drive quite a bit).

I read that with the upcoming Toolkit those things might become a reality? That it will be an App Store of sorts where Light will approve apps from the users to be easily added to the phone?

If that's the case I might hold up on buying a new phone and wait until the toolkit is available and just get a LPIII.

Thanks!

x86GP2 on Mac

Hi,

I'm trying to make x86GP2, a modern executable for the original GrandPrix 2 game, work on Mac. The game runs in Whisky (latest version before it was abandoned, with Wine 7.7) but has a distracting graphical glitch where wheels are white in cockpit mode.

In Crossover 26, I can't get it to start. It seems there is something in the old Wine version that made it work that is broken in Wine 11. What could it be?

I tried bottles for every window version, installing DirectX, .NET, Visual C++...

Does anyone have a clue what the problem might be?

This is in the text screen in the screen shot...

Command error text:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 00000000 at address 00000000 (thread 0154), starting debugger...
0174:fixme:keyboard:NtUserActivateKeyboardLayout Changing user locale is not supported
017c:fixme:keyboard:NtUserActivateKeyboardLayout Changing user locale is not supported
0174:fixme:thread:get_thread_times not implemented on this platform

And this is the log:

Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in wow64 32-bit code (0x00000000).

How to make portable consoles fullscreen in a CRT?

Hi, recent Super Station One owner here.

I'm trying to play on my CRT through S-Video and RGB. It looks fine while playing home consoles but when I boot up Game Boy or GBC or GBA games they look small in the screen. Now, I understand that might have something to do with the native resolution of those consoles, but, is there any way for the SS to expand them to look fullscreen?

I switched 'aspect ratio' to 'full screen' in the settings menu but nothing happens. Maybe this has to do with the analog output?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

IL2 Cliffs of Dover Dynamic Campaing: DynMis or DCE?

Hi everybody!

After my last post I've settled on playing IL2: Cliffs of Dover for singleplayer campaings as to me it is very inmersive just because the sense of scale is amazing. Everything in GB looks empty to me know that I've had missions with 40 or 50 planes over the canal at the same time.

I have both dynamic campaings installed and have had good missions in both but I'm just unsure what one offers over the other. I am writing this as a way to have them easily linked for new players but also in hopes more experienced people can enlighten us on the similarities/differences between both. Both have been updated in 2025 it seems.

1. There's the classic DynMis by The Oden, that has more campaings (including desert campaings, and supposedly you can affect the course of the war, I haven't gotten that far)

Download: https://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads5&file=details&id=293

Discussion: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/65736-updated-dynamic-campaign-by-theoden-dynmis-exe/page/8/ (the forums seem to be closed?)

2. And there's DCE forked by silkyskyj, which you manage from inside the game. It has less campaigns but more mission variety maybe?

Download: https://github.com/silkyskyj/CloDDce

Discussion: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/90685-il2dce-dynamic-campaigns-extended-and-continued/

-

In short, there's not much documentation about these programs and while they seem to do the job well, I would love to know more in detail what each of these are simulating and how they differ from each other. I can't find feature lists anywhere and I don't understand a lot of the parameters in the configuration of both.

I am now convinced that if the developers manage to release the Fortresses and Focke-Wulfs expansion plus the VR patch it will become the go-to single player WWII experience.

Thanks!

Thoughts after trying Il-1946, IL2 CloD and IL2 GB in search for a good SP experience

When I was a teenager I remember playing MCFS 1 daydreaming a future where one could play a single player campaign that felt alive and like an actual squadron simulation (in terms of details and consistency). Then life happened and I stopped playing for a long time...

Recently my dad (who's a pilot) got a nice sim rig at his house that he uses for civil aviation (MFS and the like). I've been reminiscent of that time in my life and got the urge to play an inmersive single-player WWII pilot campaing. I thought, with all the technology and processing power we have now my dream surely has been realized many times over. I guess not!

I have downloaded and installed every IL2 installment and they all come short in some way or another. I'm playing with TrackIR. So far I've installed...

IL2 1946 12.2m + VP 1.2 mod + DCE 3.50 Beta

  • Quite dated in terms of graphics, but VP helps.
  • The damage model, flight model and interface all show their age.
  • AI is actually quite good and can put up a fight.
  • Huge variety of war theatres to simulate a dynamic campaign in.
  • Huge variety of planes to fly, even with just VP (No BAT). Spy planes, fighters, small bombers, medium bombers, huge bombers...
  • As its old, it runs well on almost anything from the last 10 years.
  • Time skipping works.
  • No VR.

IL2 Cliffs of Dover / Tobruk + DynMis / DCE

  • Feels like a natural evolution of 1946 in many ways.
  • But the community has almost abandoned it so there's not a lot of user made content in terms of planes and maps. Original content is also very limited.
  • Flight model is great, damage model is amazing, inmersion is really good while you are in the cockpit.
  • A big step-up in terms of graphics, but terrible presentation. Horrendous UI, archaic mapping system.
  • Hard! The AI is quite good too. Fighters maneuver out of your way skillfully. If you get behind a bomber carelessly it will put a bullet through your windshield quite quickly.
  • The single player content is static and quite boring. But with the campaing generators it becomes livelier, there's consistency across missions and makes this one of the best options for a BoB campaign if you want something more recent than 1946. No squadron management, though. Just a string of connected missions...
  • Can actually simulate a huge formation of bombers and fighters over the canal at the same time.
  • Time skipping works.
  • They've been promising expansions that don't come out.
  • No 4-engine bombers.
  • No VR.

IL2 Great Battles + PWCG

  • Looks the best and has the most consistent presentation.
  • Sound FX is the best of the series. Engine noise, bullets, etc.
  • Well optimized.
  • It has a good amount of content at this point.
  • Feels like its oriented towards MP, because the vanilla campaing is just a static mission generator.
  • AI is boring. Really, they just turn...
  • The engine crumbles if you try to put more than 10 planes flying together in the same area. Given this limitation, plane formations are usually very small, which breaks the inmersion.
  • No 4-engine bombers.
  • Bombers are really easy to shoot down? I can take down 5 or 6 bombers in the same mission. I don't expect full realism but it feels quite gamey.
  • PWCG goes a long way towards making this a much better campaing simulator. The squadron screen is great, the generated missions are good, the ground unit consistency improves, etc...But the AI issues and the low plane count in the sky always put me off.
  • Time skipping doesn't work. Because of how the engine is coded, even on a state of the art CPU, time skipping doesn't really do what it's supposed to do. In my experience at 8x it sometimes barely feels like more than 2x if there is a lot going on (and a lot on this sim is just a couple of squadrons flying nearby). This makes it terribly tedious for long missions. I don't have the time to fly 30 minutes to the next waypoint...
  • VR

BONUS TRACK: Wings Over The Reich + Expansion

  • Designed around SP, so inmersion in terms of flying and out of flying is much better.
  • The dynamic campaing is great. Theres a squadron board, statistics, a simulated day, supplies, front line...
  • Based on an old engine that stutters even in the most modern machines. I've tried everything, I get 50fps on a 5070ti and sometimes it dips.
  • Some bugs, crashes, etc. Technically it's not very polished. I get CTDs quite often which becomes really frustrating.
  • Graphics are OK. Lighting is really bland. Damage model is not great...
  • Very limited plane selection. Only BoB and BoF available and you have to buy the expansion for it. It's not a great proposal value wise, you end of paying 80 bucks for 2 maps and 4-5 flyable planes.
  • No VR.

They all feel essentially flawed one way or another. It's hard for me to comprehend how nobody could get this right. I can't be the only one wishing for a good single player experience? Right now I feel like 1946 is still the best for this kind of playing, even after so many years and so many games that were supposed to best it...hell I'm having more fun in European Air War than in modern IL2.

In conclusion: I don't need to change the course of the war or that kind of BMS style campaign. I just want a good semi-dynamic SP historic (or not) experience. I want to feel like I'm part of a squadron in a war that is going on out there. And to feel we have an impact, however small that impact is. Is this really all there is? Am I missing something? Do you share my thoughts or am I asking for something unrealistic?

Thanks.

SuperStation One / S-video out and noise levels

Hi everyone,

I got my SS one last week and just had time to plug it in. Build quality is great, the device is a dream, etc. But I'm having a problem with it's image quality over s-video.

I'm using a brand new s-video cable to hook up the SS to my Sony Trinitron SSM 20', and the image has some kind of noise, like waves, it's hard to explain and even harder to capture on video but specially if the image is fully white or black it's really noticeable that the image is not "still" but a little shaky, juddery.

I thought it was my TV acting out but I tried hooking up my PS2 via s-video and booting up the same PSX games and it looks noticiably better. No noise and it feels sharper, even though this may be placebo. I'm using original playstation cables for the PS2.

My TV is one of those PVM style tv's that doesn't have RGB, just s-video, so I'm stuck using that. Any suggestions as to why this might occur? Could it be a problem with USB noise or something like that?

Thank you! Adding some photos but I can't capture the noise...
