Best target for precision and load development?
I've tried a few, and also stickers on top of existing targets to highlight aiming points. Not really married to anything.
I also bought white 12x18 card stocks to use with the birchwood target spots.

Testing some handloads. Main targets are 5-shot groups and orange stickers are 10-shot groups.
Don't do load development for four different rifles concurrently, otherwise you will never finish. I wished somebody had told me that lol.
I researched and the barrel is the last component I need to get. Please try your best to leave bias against SOLGW aside and be objective (JUST the barrel, not buying the polarizing contract rifle 😊).
I want a barrel for the above application and I'm in doubt between these 2 barrels. Practically the same price (if you can find one):
- SOLGW P3 Recce MK1 Stainless Steel, .223 Wylde, 1:7, lifetime warranty, high precision, Polygonal 3-groove riffling, 26oz, mid-length, gas journal .750" dimpled, 5/8x24 thread pitch
- Criterion CORE Chrome-Lined, .223 Wylde, 1:8, hand-lapped, precise and highly durable, 6-groove button-riffling, 26.4oz, mid-length gas, gas journal .625" dimpled, 1/2x28 thread pitch
This spr 223 18" rifle is pretty capable. With bone frog factory 77gr ammo has consistent <.8 MOA 10-shot groups. I've done probably 400 shots across several powders, weights, and bullets. When I filter by group sizes <.7" this is what comes up. I would expect varget and n140 to dominate here, since they are slower and better for longer barrels shooting heavier 77gr bullets. But h4895 is being more consistent, despite being a faster powder.
Is anyone else having h4895 success on longer spr barrels?
My next step is to load 20 rounds in 2 different seating depths of each of these loads, but I'm curious about what others are seeing. I could also load n140 and varget a bit hotter, since I don't have pressure signs.
Big mistake. How screwed am I? Do I have to throw all away? It's ~100 rounds
I'm putting together a 14.5" with a good barrel (SOLGW MK1, when that's back in stock). It will likely be accurate and I'm looking for a rigid, low deflection handguard with anti-rotation tabs that won't break my bank. These are the options I've gathered so far. And I know G$ MK16 is good (I have 2), but I want something a little cheaper.
It will go on a 14.5 beater, with a good barrel. The son's is $220 and the MB is $110, both on sale.
I don't even care about its practical effect anymore. I just enjoy watching it.
It's time to increase my beloved Vortex PST Gen II 1-6 to something a little more capable for longer distances. I'm thinking I will have better results with a 2-12 and a piggyback red dot than a 1-10. Especially because I want a budget option and 1-10 are normally bad in low budget.
So it's coming down to these 2, although I accept suggestions as well.
What do you think? Also, the the Continental has 2 options of reticle, and I think I want the one with the big donut (visible at <5x) because the center illumination seems to be stronger. Bur the other seems better for precision. I can't decide.
Main use is for a GPR 16" to be able to group well at mid-distances.
Basic specs:
Athlon has a 30mm tube, 3.6" eye relief, 11.8" length, 55.7-9.6ft @ 100yds FoV, 25.4oz, zero stop and locking turret.
Continental has a 34mm tube, 4" eye relief, 12.48", 62.4-10.8ft @ 100yds FoV, 27.1oz, zero stop and locking turret.
I didn't really notice it before I started reloading, but my new bench surface (a Husky) started showing a crack at the wood seam ("solid" wood, I see). I still love the bench (this thing is SOLID), and I don't know if they would replace it after I drilled holes on it.
So I decided to put some steel reinforcements at the edge and on the holes for the inLineFabrication mount. I hope it holds, what do you think?
What do you look for?
I like my Huxwrx Flow 9K on my kuna, but I'm thinking about moving it to my Walther pdp pro sd and getting a can with higher sound suppression.
I know I will have to give up the 3 best things of the flow 9k (low gas, light, short), but I still want to get a can that balances those items. Thoughts on these 3?
I definitely don't want a gassy can. I found 2 good videos comparing them:
Milkman x Rico309 (and others): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8BqI33hboc
MOB x Rico309: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OloYm8BXTdA
It seems to the case for me. Even AAC reused brass is straighter. Does anyone experience the same?
It was a pain in the butt and it cost a bit, but it's finally comfortable.
Is this good timing?
Am I hitting the right spot?
Medef fmj 124, dead nuts competition jhp 135, nosler jhp 147. Cfe pistol. Hosts will be bul armory tac pro 5" and kuna pcc suppressed.
SMK 77, nosler custom competition 77, berger tactical 77, Hornady ELDM 73. Varget and H4895. Hosts will be 2 ar15, an spr 18" and a gpr 16".
I have a Rock Chucker single stage and I'm soon planning to add a Dillon XL750 and a RCBS Matchmaster case trimmer. Those 3 would take most of the bench, so it's time for one of these mounts. I'm just not sure about which height to get. The bench will be a an adjustable height and I have an adjustable height chair.
What's the best height, 4", 7 1/2", or 9 3/4"?
Picture for attention.
