Parent needing help

Please delete if not allowed, I'm just at the end of my rope here.

I am a DoD civilian working in Germany. This is my first assignment with DoD, first time overseas as a civilian (former military). My daughter is a senior this year. For the last 3 years in the states, she was in an IB program at her highschool. She has taken all honors, AP, and IB courses.

We met with her counselor the other day to make her schedule. My daughter has met every "core" requirement other than senior English and Physics. The problem comes with all the other stuff that dodea requires for graduation. Because her previous program was IB, it didn't require any PE or CTE for graduation. So she has zero credits in those areas.

Dodea requires 1.5 credits of PE, 0.5 of health, and 1.5 credits of CTE. They're basically trying to shove 2 years of courses into her senior year. She's already planning on submitting college applications for nursing, so we're trying to make her senior year strong in math and science. In addition to AP physics, she was going to take AP statistics and anatomy & physiology. She has a 3.9 GPA, and already got a 29 on her ACT. she's not a slacker.

I asked the counselor about senior reciprocity, where they can waive all these courses, and she told me that's only for military kids. That's not true as their own policies state it's for kids coming from non dod schools into dod schools.

I sent an email requesting to loop the principal in, as she's the one who has to approve the waivers. The counselor wrote back setting up another meeting, but didn't specify if it was with the principal or not.

How do I approach this to best support my daughter and ensure an on time graduation for her? I don't want to piss anyone off, but if I let them have their way, her schedule will be English, physics, and rhythmic dance and 2 other gym classes with some tech courses that will not help her have strong college applications.

I would really appreciate some tips on how I can approach this to get the best outcome. Thanks!

Tight upper on Experience Flow 3?

Just got these today and where the tongue meets the body, it's very tight. That's basically the only problem spot. Other than that, I really like them, but worry about rubbing and irritation during runs. Is this just part of the shoe? Anything I can do to alleviate this? Or any other styles I should try?

For my MedSurg peoples

There are currently 3 listings on USAjobs for a MedSurg position in Germany at the US military hospital. You don't need to speak German, and any state license is valid. ADN or BSN. One closes today, one tomorrow, and one on the 6th. Initial contract is 3 years, they have been extending people to 10.

These are open to the public. No military or veteran affiliation needed, no prior federal employment. The hiring process is a beast.

It is straight MedSurg, no tele. You have to rotate days and nights every 3-4 months and rotate charge (charge doesn't take patients), and preceptor. Sometimes you take pediatrics (they train you). Charting system is Cerner, they use pyxis. Max ratio is 1:5, every nurse on the floor says they can't remember the last time they had 4. You do need to work 80 hours a pay period, so that's six 12s and one 8 every 2 weeks. For new to federal service, PTO is 4 hours a pay period and 4 hours sick time a pay period. At 3 years PTO increases to 6 hours a pay period.

We got here last month and everything has been pretty good so far, outside of a few frustrating parts that eventually got resolved. But even with the frustration, we're in Europe at the end of the day.

They pay to bring you, your family, your possessions, and one car over. They will give you passports. They pay for housing and utilities here, as well as a cost of living allowance (these are all tax free). There are upfront costs, the majority will be reimbursed. The salary isn't amazing at first glance, but since someone else is covering rent and utilities, it makes a difference. There is health insurance, and American doctors in the area. You and your family get to use all military amenities including base access for shopping and groceries, recreational facilities, and schools and daycares for kids. Yes your pets can come.

If you have questions or want some help applying, please reach out, I'd be happy to help. I've linked the one that closes on the 6th, but if you search you'll find the other 2. If interested, highly recommend you apply to all three.

I'm not a recruiter, just a MedSurg nurse who was burnt TF out and needed to get away. Trying to help out others.

Frustrated with OCONUS on boarding

Family and I arrived to Germany yesterday. They can't issue me a CAC because HR hasn't coded me as an employee (new to DoD). Husband and I are both vets, so we're still listed in DEERS as such. CAC office says HR has to fix it, HR basically said 🤷🏻‍♀️ it'll happen when it happens. My supervisors are doing what they can, but until the update is pushed, we're SOL.

But, we can't do **anything** without the CAC. Can't get our licenses so we can't get a car, can't buy from the PX or commissary, can't even pick up my packages at the post office (my sponsor set me up a box weeks ago). My sponsor is taking us around, but even at the stores they tell her we can select items but she has to pay.

My husband and I have both been stationed in Germany before, so it's not like we're flying blind, we're familiar with the area, but this is all so frustrating. I got my TJO in October, FJO in March. It's not like they didn't know we were coming. "Hey welcome to a new country, how was your 12+ hours of travel? Oh you want groceries? Get fucked".

And the whole this is just a craps shoot. Another new to DoD person started Monday and got their CAC today, while my sponsor, who has a decade of DoD service said hers took weeks to upgrade to overseas access. Everyone just says this is how it is, but I think that's a shitty answer.

Just bitching I guess. You'd think they'd have this figured out by now.

Data not working in Germany

We arrived in Germany this morning. Had $20 prepaid added to each line, roaming and everything switched on. However, data service isn't working and I can't figure out what to do. Mobile data and roaming are on, but nothing works.

I'm on a OnePlus 15, my daughter has a OnePlus 12, and my husband has a Samsung Galaxy s24, it doesn't work on any of our phones.

I've looked through Reddit, through Tello's FAQ, all of the Internet and can't find an answer. Can't get a German sim for a few days if not a week, so this is causing an issue. Any help would be appreciated!

We're moving to Europe! And of course the puppies are coming with.

Our household goods won't arrive for about 3 months, so I'm trying to make a list of what I need to pack in my checked bag for the pups.

So far I've got some food, their heartworm/flea and tick meds, and a few favorite toys and treats. Harnesses, leashes and poop bags will of course be with us.

Anything else you can suggest?

My kids are 22, 19, and 16. They all got their licenses as soon as they could, and when they had permits, I made them drive everywhere. But my youngest, her friends are 17 (she has a late birthday) and none of them have licenses. The parents won't let them get them, or the kids have no interest. Even my older kids' friends were 18+ when they got theirs, and my oldest has friends who still don't have one.

I remember in highschool what a big deal it was to get your driver's license. The day you took your driver's test was an excused day off at my school.

We're moving to Germany next month for my job. I'll be on a military base, but because I'm a civilian I can't use the military medical facilities.

I currently get my prescriptions through the VA, but they won't be able to mail meds overseas. I need to find a local doctor, but I wanted to get a feel for how German docs treat symptoms and med management. Thanks!

I know they can't be shipped. Are there other work arounds? Like can the prescription be called into the local MTF, or can I get a paper prescription and do it that way?

I have one doc that I see via teleheath and just need labs every 6 months. The meds aren't life and death but pretty important to me for my quality of life.

I know I have to establish care on the economy and go thru insurance, but it took me forever to get a VA doc to work with me on my issue and I really don't want to have to be without meds if I have to fight for care again.

This is specific to woman's health (not birth control) if that helps narrow it down without getting too specific.

We are moving to Germany in June for 3-5 years. I have 3 lines currently with T-Mobile that I need to stay active. Not just for 2FA, also don't want to lose our numbers. I talked to T-Mobile today and they said I can either do a military suspension (which defeats the "keep it active" part), or else they'll cancel the account if it's not used in the US every 9 months or so, even if I'm actively using the lines.

VOIP doesn't seem to be an option as banks won't send 2FA to those, so Tello is what keeps coming up when I search for options.

How do I do this? I'm not tech savvy. My phone and my husband's phone support eSIM, not sure about my daughter, she has an older model (we'll get her one that does if needed). They're all bought from the manufacturer, unlocked, not tied to a carrier.

When is the best time to get it all set up and cancel T-Mobile? I know I have to be stateside to make the switch. What would be the best plan for this? Would you recommend data?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just anxious. I appreciate any help!
