An overlooked diaspora

Im so proud of Macau. Its such a unique place in the world and it’s so sad that its diaspora is so overlooked. Calling it Chinese ignores hundreds of years of history and ignores the beautiful blend of ethnicities, religion, history, culture, and language. It’s so sad that a people that exist only in Macau (the Macanese) are at risk of going extinct. The Macanese blend of Cantonese and Portuguese in ethnicity, language (Patuá), and catholicism are so interesting and overlooked. Although today, Macanese are less than 2% of Macau, there could be up to 50,000 living abroad including the US. Getting lumped into “Chinese” also ignores politics. Macau has seperate legal system, currency, leader, legislature, laws, passport, immigration laws, etc than China but still gets lumped into it. I call it China in name only. Anyway, Macau is such a beautiful place and I would love to see more visibility in the US.

An underrated friendship I want to see more of

The stamina with which they fight is truly impressive. But at the end of the day I think they really care about each other and I would love to see them become closer.
