Gen5w - Future Updates

Do we think we’ll see 3rd party hardware/software open up as legacy units see the used market?

Currently we see map updates. But the Hyundai would do itself a huge favor if manual preconditioning was added and something was done to allow AA/CP nav systems to activate routing/precon/nav.

Then updating their software can truly stopped. Even if it seems it has already.

Ive a year left on my lease and this would be my main qualm if I were to buy it out.

EDIT:

To reiterate: Gen5W non existent development, where do we see 3rd party support coming from.

Volvo EX90 - 2026

Been on the hunt and engaged various dealers for a 2026 Volvo EX90 - Ultra, that is at 87500 MSRP.

And all the payment options Ive received at 0 down, 36/12:

Dealer 1:
$1561/mo
Dealer 2:
$1800/mo
Dealer 3:
$1337/mo

Im not a Costco, not current Volvo owner, and don’t know a densist or doctor I guess. (Im a PE, what gives? NCEES hook us up).

All of these are non starter deals to me. Considering Vistiq is closer to 1% rule deals right now. And at those numbers, I could get a bad lease on an R1S Tri.

Is Volvo just terrible at leasing?

Test Drive & Comparison: EX90 vs R1S vs Vistiq

Finally after 9 months we’ve now driven and seen in person EX90 and R1S to compare to Vistiq we drove months ago. These compared to currently driving a 2015 Durango

First stop was Rivian and on paper this fits all the needs or wants in cargo and is 100% the best base equipped vehicle for an adventure. The frunk is impressive, the material of the seats do look setup for good wear. In person the wheels seem comically large, but assume thats for better wheel wells to utilize the smaller wheel and bigger tyre for off road. Software is very nice, it’s definitely a product that isn’t your typical OEM. Cameras and screen were the best out the group. I’m 6-2 (188 cm) and the second row felt good but both front and second row felt tight. It felt smaller on the inside. I don’t know why. Features such as the rear gate, storage, exceptional. Driving the Rivian in-town felt clunky and aggressive regen even in low. I felt more on top of the wheel in Rivian and the EX or Vistiq. Show room sales felt more refreshing, more about what features do you want and less about we have to make a sale today. I don’t know what to compare it to. Reminded me of when I visited a software developer company.

Then we ventured to Volvo and we immediately sat in the floor model EX90 and produced a buggy software issue, bit less intuitive for opening the frunk and rear gate but made more sense once explained. Huge charge flap. The first sit in either row I felt much more comfortable than the Rivian. Even in the second row. I don’t know how as the EX90 is and looks smaller than the Vistiq and Rivian but it felt much more spacious in both rows. Mulberry red in person is awesome. I like the HUD, the simple display right at the wheel. The vertical screen… should be horizontal. And the software looks like its due for a refresh. I like Rivians software style and Cadillacs take is very American we’ll call it. Not right or wrong, different, wider. Driving down the road we never had the lane assist or cruise engage, I think I need more time fiddling to understand but it did not work as the sales rep said it would. The software bugs could be maddening and while they didn’t fully present themselves it was a good experience. It floated down the road like the Cadillac whiteout feeling like a boat like the Cadillac.

The Vistiq was ages ago, and its great but for road tripping Im not sure I want to deal with GMs current platform.

But it was nice to finally compare, if we left very impressed with EX90 and to be honest the price disparity of a R1S Tri vs EX90 is a bit alarming. Really hard to see where 15,000-25,000 is being spent on the Tri in strictly value comparison considering its likely due to battery size. A spec’d EX90 Ultra w/o B&W is still under 90k and I couldn’t find a Tri under 110,000. The Tri interior is much better than the Dual.

Overall, Id say they each score high in different categories that would out them as equals beyond just having 3 rows. And a non buggy EX90 is the preference.

Ioniq 9 and EV9 were non starters, but Id say they are still the best value proposition.

Is there a change log somewhere through Cadillac website to see what improvements they have been making and frequency?

Just curious on if any improvements to the charging curve have occurred at all.

The car seemed great on a couple of test drives but my Wifes desire to make it 200 miles doing 85 doesn’t seem possible in the Vistiq. Maybe Im wrong. In ND on 94 the road is pretty open to little in the way of reducing aero drag plus the ever present wind.

For me, if it could hold 200-180 from 10 to 50 that would more than enough.

Also cold weather, does preconditioning work well or is weak like my Hyundai is?
