My mum won’t let me cook and is always judgemental, advice?

So basically long story short is my mum is a very (frankly) lazy person and super judgemental to other people. She hates cooking and prefers frozen food, even if it encroaches on her children’s health she doesn’t mind. She pays it no mind. During the heat wave we had pizza about 3-4 times a week, the other days we’d have some poorly done ‘picky bits’. I wouldn’t be so bitter about this if it wasn’t for the fact she hates us cooking or doing anything in the kitchen - making pancakes, making our own food! It’s had such a long effect on me, I hate people watching me cook and I won’t let anyone else taste my food because she always has a go at me for seasoning my food. I don’t like plain chicken with not even salt or pepper on it, apparently that makes me weird. I feel really trapped in my own house, I can’t use the kitchen or living room and we don’t even eat at the dinning table - they eat on the sofa and we eat in our rooms (which is disgusting btw).

She gets so stressed and annoyed whenever we try to use the kitchen, she often throws out our stuff. She’s wasted like £50+ of mine. Entire heads of lettuce, tofu etc…

She’s really judgemental of anything home cooked, it’s really annoying and I feel like it plays a massive part in my weight as an adult. I’ve been overweight most of my life.

Can someone give me any advice as to how to deal with all of this …?

The Grade 9 Myth

Hi everyone, I’ve just recently been accepted into the University of Cambridge to study English. I wanted to share some advice before results day!

I came from a very very awful school, when I joined in year 7 the average grade was a 4. As of now less than 10% of leavers will receive grades 7-9 from my high school. Only 30% of students will achieve above a 5 in English and maths. This is an improvement from when I originally joined.

I left school with decently good grades though! One distinction, 8,8,8,7-7,7,7,7,6

Amazing grades but not all 9’s, a lot of my grades were pulled down by my school’s failings. My double science grade would have been two eights or 8-7 if it wasn’t for that fact I was forced to fail physics because we had never really ever been taught physics throughout the entire 5 years.

Nevertheless, my friend from an amazing high school had GCSEs around 5-7 mostly 6’s. She always said she did “average”, she’ll now be studying at a Russel Group University.

Your grades do not define you. You do not require all 9’s to get into top universities - yes, they do help.

Honestly, past a-level - especially, university - your GCSEs become a bit irrelevant in life other than showing you can read and write.

Please, take it from me - enjoy your summer, have a well deserved roast dinner and relax!

(I hope this post doesn’t come off as bragging or pretentious, just something I wish I was told as someone who cried out of sadness on results day) 💗

My boyfriend (18M) is struggling with his apprenticeship

Okay so as the title says this is for my boyfriend, he just got accepted into Airbus to study aerospace engineering at Swansea and work in Broughton. He’s really struggling because as much as this is a good opportunity and he is a massive aviation nerd he always wanted to be ATC. He tried everything to get an ATC apprenticeship but was rejected from all of them. I think he’s very overwhelmed with what to do and how it will work and what it will be like…

I’m asking this because I’m in over my head, I have a place at Cambridge to study English and I’m clueless about the AV community! Can anyone give him some advice or help us…? Thank you, sorry if it’s not relevant to the community I’m just very stuck out of options!

War is over

I was accepted yesterday, I’m so happy. I genuinely thought I failed completely but ended up getting A*AA. I’m the first person in my immediate family to go to university and it’s CAMBRIDGE. Jesus Christ. I’m still in shock. I don’t know what to say I feel so numb but so happy.

Opinion on sexual harassment

I’ve been sexually harassed at the work place multiple times by different people and I’ve witnessed it. However, I didn’t realise it was sexual harassment until wayyyyy later when it was far too late to report.

I’ve come to the opinion that sexual harassment in professional environments should be a mandatory course for every work place and should be taught in high school. In high school it’s labelled as bullying or inappropriate comments, I think framing it with future legalities in mind sets the perspective that it’s more than that and this is unacceptable in a work place / professional environment.

My newest position had me train for sexual harassment and it was enlightening, I genuinely think so many more positions should have this and it should be taught for sexual education in schools for older students - especially since they’ll be getting jobs soon.

Am I being insane?

It’s always a joke for those who aren’t involved

Okay essentially when I was 17 I was groomed and assaulted by someone older than me, I spoke about it at my work place and one of the leading people just finds it to be a joke. A complete joke.

Last day was today, the last thing they ever say to me is a joke about it.

I’m just writing this because it upsets me so much. I nearly left crying.

I’m really sorry I just can’t stop crying, and the feelings of depression always come back when it’s mentioned. I’ve pushed for so long to be better, to not feel the way I do. I just.. it’s so cruel, so out of touch. I hate it so much.

Recovery from SA last year

I (18F) was assaulted last year by someone that was older than me, I can’t report it before anyone asks. I’ve tried everything I guess that I could do. Point is, my now boyfriend and are have been dating for 5 months now, I know it’s not long. We are quite touchy though but have I guess a general idea that somewhere in the future we will eventually have sex. I don’t know if I can do it. Honestly. It was this time last year that I was assaulted man i genuinely don’t know if I can do it and me and him don’t plan on being physical anytime soon but I know I won’t be able to. He isn’t pushy, he knows my history, he’s so so so respectful and loving, he comforts me and he doesn’t pressure me. This is his first relationship as well so he’s nervous.

I just… I just can’t shake the feeling that someone having sex with me will mean they will drop me afterwards. Like they’ve gotten what they wanted and then they’ll leave. Keep in mind he has NEVER given me that impression at all.
