Who is literature’s greatest tragic hero, and why?

Hamlet, Oedipus, Macbeth, Achilles, King Lear, Gatsby, Raskolnikov, or someone else entirely?

I’m interested in what makes a character truly tragic rather than simply unfortunate. Is it their fatal flaw, their suffering, their choices, or the way their greatest strength ultimately contributes to their downfall? Which character’s tragedy has stayed with you the most, and what makes their story so powerful?

Has anyone here been diagnosed with PCOS despite having regular periods?

My periods are still regular, but I'm experiencing some symptoms that make me wonder if I could have PCOS. If you have PCOS with regular cycles, what were your other symptoms? Also, did your doctor prescribe you birth control pills (OCPs)? I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences.

Baby tarot reader looking for guidance 🥹🔮

I've recently become really curious about tarot. I have absolutely no idea where to start, but I'd love to learn it properly instead of just memorizing meanings from random apps.

If you were starting all over again, what would you recommend?

  • Beginner-friendly decks
  • Books that actually helped you
  • YouTube channels or websites you swear by
  • Tips for practicing and understanding the cards

I'd love to hear how you started your tarot journey too! Any advice, resources, or little beginner tips would mean a lot.

Thank you! ✨

Started Lexapro 10 mg 2 days ago - severe nausea and sweating. How long does this usually last?

I (22F) started taking escitalopram (Lexapro) 10 mg two days ago, and I'm having pretty severe side effects. I'm dealing with constant nausea and drenching sweats and it's been really uncomfortable. For those who experienced similar side effects, how long did they last before they started improving? Did anything help you get through the first week or two? I know everyone's experience is different, but I'd really appreciate hearing what it was like for you. Thanks!

Gregor's consciousness remains recognizably human long after his body changes. If identity resides in consciousness rather than appearance, why does everyone including Gregor himself gradually accept his exclusion from humanity?

One thing that has always fascinated me about The Metamorphosis is that Gregor's mind remains largely human even after his transformation. He still worries about his family, remembers his responsibilities and thinks rationally. If consciousness is what makes someone human, then why do the people around him gradually stop treating him as human? What I find even more unsettling is that Gregor himself eventually seems to accept this judgment. He begins to withdraw, hide himself and internalize the idea that he no longer belongs among others.

This makes me wonder whether identity is really something we possess internally, or whether it depends on recognition from other people. Can a person remain human if everyone including themselves stops seeing them that way?

I'd love to hear how others interpret this aspect of the novel.
