Where does sensuality fit into alignment when you aren’t waiting for someone else to notice you?

Was there a particular moment when your circle stopped feeling like a gathering you attended and started feeling like somewhere you belonged?
I’m curious whether it happened during ritual or in an unexpected moment afterward. What made you comfortable enough to let people see a less guarded version of you?
One thing I keep thinking about is how easily modern life separates spirituality from desire.
We talk about becoming more conscious, living with intention, and understanding ourselves more deeply. But sex often gets pushed into a completely different category, almost like desire is something we are supposed to manage rather than something we can actually learn from.
I’ll be totally upfront. I’ve swung with partners before and loved it. There is something beautiful about loving someone and still being able to experience curiosity, attraction, and that little electric feeling when someone new enters the picture 👀
I already come at this from an existing spiritual practice, so I don’t really see desire as separate from becoming more fully yourself. If anything, desire can expose parts of us that are difficult to reach any other way.
That is part of why I find the Hellenic perspective interesting.
When I think about Aphrodite, for example, I don’t just think about romance. I think about attraction, beauty, pleasure, and that force that pulls human beings toward each other. Dionysus brings up another side of it for me too. The loosening of boundaries. Ecstasy. Letting yourself become a little less controlled.
Modern society seems uncomfortable with that kind of energy unless it can either sell it to us or keep it hidden.
If you want to explore sexually outside the normal script, everything tends to get pushed toward apps, anonymous encounters, or spaces where people can start feeling like products.
I keep wondering if we lost something when sex became so disconnected from spirituality and community.
Imagine actually knowing people. Trust builds over time. Attraction develops without anyone needing to immediately define it. Maybe you flirt for weeks. Maybe nothing happens. Maybe a few people are drinking wine together late at night and suddenly Aphrodite seems extremely present in the room lol.
I’m not saying everyone should be sexually open. I’m more interested in whether desire itself can be approached with reverence instead of either shame or mindless indulgence.
Can eros be part of spiritual growth?
And maybe the harder question is whether we can create cultures where people can explore that side of themselves freely without it turning into exploitation, secrecy, or some weird sex cult.
Because somewhere between repression and complete chaos, I feel like there has to be something deeper.
One thing I keep thinking about with relationships in general is how much freedom there is in questioning the usual hierarchy, but how hard it still is to actually live that freedom in the world we have.

What feels strange is that if you want to explore outside the normal script, the options are often still pretty shallow.
Apps. Anonymous encounters. Spaces where people can start feeling more like options than actual relationships.
I keep imagining something more human.
You get to know people over time. Friendships develop. Attraction sneaks up on you. Maybe you flirt for weeks before anything happens. Maybe nothing happens. Maybe four people end up drinking wine together until 2am and suddenly the energy in the room is very different 👀
That feels way more interesting to me than trying to decide in advance whether someone is a friend, lover, partner, hookup, or whatever other box we have available lol.
Maybe part of relationship anarchy is not just having the freedom to define individual relationships differently.
Maybe it is creating social environments where those relationships have enough room to become whatever they naturally become.
And yeah, I know when you start talking about intentional community, sexuality, and spirituality in the same sentence it starts sounding suspiciously like the beginning of a cult 😂
But seriously, why does it have to go there?
Is it possible to create a real community around autonomy, intimacy, and exploration without creating another hierarchy or someone deciding what relationships are supposed to look like?
I have some ideas about what that could look like, but I’m really curious whether anyone here has seen something like this work.
One thing I keep thinking about with intentional communities is how willing we are to rethink the way we live together, but how rarely that includes rethinking intimacy and desire.
We can share meals, resources, and parts of our lives with a community.

But the way society works now makes that kind of freedom harder than it needs to be.
If you want to explore desire outside the normal script, you usually get pushed toward secret apps, anonymous encounters, or spaces that can feel more like shopping for bodies than actually knowing people.
I keep wondering what it would look like if intimacy grew inside an actual community instead.
You get to know people over time. You keep running into them. Maybe you flirt for three weeks before anything happens. Maybe nothing happens. Maybe four people end up drinking wine together until 2am and suddenly everybody is looking at everybody a little differently 👀
I know that would be a lot to swallow for most people, but it sounds way more interesting to me than endlessly swiping through profiles or wasting nights at bars.
Maybe sexual freedom works better when it grows inside trust and community.
Sounds like a sex cult, I know lol. But that’s actually part of what I’m curious about. Why do ideas like this seem to so quickly enter cult territory? Is it really impossible to build something deeper without manipulation, weird hierarchies, or one person becoming the center of everything?
Not everyone needs to be open or explore. That isn’t really the point.
I just wonder whether an intentional community could make room for this part of being human too, while still taking boundaries, autonomy, and real relationships seriously.
I have some ideas about what that could look like, but I’m curious if anyone here has seen communities attempt something like this well.
