[Queenstown Resident] Kim Dotcom loses appeal to avoid extradition
Hopefully the local hospitality sector won’t collapse after he is deported.

Hopefully the local hospitality sector won’t collapse after he is deported.
I was talking with one of my friends in the industry this morning and they said that one of our local fields is quietly introducing a significant tech upgrade this year … and I suspect that it will be watched carefully by other operators to see if it signals the way for other ski-fields around the world
Their fields are introducing a unified resort App. It will largely be a wrapper for exisiting web services so you can access real-time lift status, webcams, e-commerce options for booking add-ons like lessons and rentals, leaderboards and individual stats etc. But the big new feature is that all of their lift-gates are being upgraded so that they can be activated by the smartphone and its App. The old RFID card system will remain as an option for people without phones - but the expectation is that the majority of guests will be using the new App based system.
This technological step-change might be old news to some of you but I hadn’t heard anything about it before. I expect we will all hear a lot more about when the first ski-field to use the new system opens next month in the Southern Hemisphere.
