School holiday activities, deals etc. in Dunedin?

Hey all,

After any tips about school holiday activities, deals. I feel like it is always kind of through the grapevine and randomly stumbling on facebook pages for things that are on.

Is there a central spot to see what is on for kids across Dunedin during school holidays?

Rain

How 'bout this weather, eh?

How's everyone been doing with this current downpour? Been holed up inside the whole day, taking a look outside every now and then to see if the streets starting to flood or not. Weather app is saying this is supposed to continue though to tomorrow.

Song because it seems fitting. Stay warm and dry everyone

A heartfelt thank you to r/dunedin

Kia ora ki a r/dunedin!

A few months ago I made a post asking for advice about moving to Dunedin. I really appreciated all the thoughtful advice I received, so I thought I’d share an update.

I’m excited to say… I did it! I’ve moved! Still very early days but I am absolutely loving it - especially this storm and cold weather. Once the weather settles down and my finances have recovered from the move, I can’t wait to try all the wonderful food suggestions. The few things I’ve tried so far really are SO much better than anything I’d had in the North Island!

I just wanted to give you all a heartfelt thank you. I was feeling overwhelmed trying to make this big decision alone, and too scared of the unknown to even make a start on constructive steps in the decision making process, despite hating where I’d been for more than a decade. The information and kindness from you all really meant a lot, and helped so much with the anxiety I was experiencing. The people here really are so much kinder in general and Dunedin has such a nice vibe - a kind stranger even asked if I needed help while I was looking lost trying to figure out the bus hub! I have also already made a friend after just happening to sit next to them at a professional development event. This was definitely the right decision, and it wouldn’t have happened without the help of this sub.

Ka mihi maioha ki a koutou 🫶🏻

Baldwin St in Winter? Worth visiting?

I'm coming to Dunedin late July. Is Baldwin st worth it? Is it not safe?

I know it is just a St at the end of the day, but worlds steepest st, so while im there I may as well take a gander, no?

I've never been in the snow in my life so idk if I'm overthinking.

thanks

Anyone else in Dunedin struggling to get decent frames for their prints?

Hey folks, just moved into a new place a couple weeks back and i've been slowly sorting out the walls, got a bunch of photos from my trip to the Otago peninsula last year those albatross shots and the views from lovers leap are unreal, but they're just sitting in a drawer because local spots seem pretty backed up or pricey for what i want. Thinking of doing a little gallery wall in the living room with some peninsula pics and maybe a couple of those street art prints from town. Anyone got recs for good framers in Dunedin that aren't a 3 week wait? or other cool local prints/posters worth framing? tryna make the place feel less empty.

Haircut places?

Hello I have shortish hair, I am a queer, more masculine woman, who is in need of a cut. I am scared on who to trust to do my hair! I kind of just need a trim, maybe a slight restyle. I'm just thinking more layering and a good trim. If it helps I have wavy/gentle curls when styled right. Does anyone know who I can get? Within a reasonable price range I suppose. I'm a pretty poor uni student

Heat pump repair recommendations?

Unfortunately my heat pump decided to just stop turning on this morning (in the sense of no lights or any response at all. Electrical failure?).

Anybody got recommendations on who to call for a repair? Preferably not a place that's going to pressure me into buying a new heat pump entirely because that's definitely not on the budget.

Thanks in advance.

Wanna go on a wild goose chase?

I've got this game I've created inspired by this YouTube series Jet Lag: The Game, where you get allocated random locations around the city and race to visit them and be the first team home, specifically using the city's bus system. There are currencies and power ups and curses, it's all in all a whimsical experience. It's usually between 4 and 6 hours long.

I'm looking for 1 or 2 cool players to partake in a game next thursday, maybe some bored uni students left behind in Ōtepoti during student break! Teams of two to three, so if you're interested, bring a friend along.

Message me if you're interested :D
