Screwed over booking flight with child

I’m currently going back and forth with Zip pushing for a refund, wonder if anyone else dealt with this.

Booked our flight YVR to NRT, travelling with our 5yo. I wanted checked bags for my husband and I, and understand she gets free seat selection but my husband needs to sit with us too. I understand you can only buy the same package for everyone, so I tried to proceed without selecting anything since it says to contact customer service if you want to do this. However, because we’re travelling with a child we’re required to select seats to get through the booking process, which we were going to be charged for since I didn’t select a package. Given that, I went back and selected a package for us assuming I could get refunded after.

Wrong. Zip says no refunds on packages and I should have bypassed the seat selection page. I’ve taken a video to show them there is no way to do that when travelling with a child.

For those in this predicament, how did you correctly book? Can you pay for the seats the upgrade to a package later?

Child going to a very small school

We recently had a meet and greet at the elementary school our daughter will attend. From what I've heard, it's a good school (we're in Canada where there isn't as much differentiation between public schools like there is in the US) but unfortunately we're just outside the catchment to the 2 schools the majority of her daycare friends are going to. This year enrollment is low so there will only be 1 kindergarten class of 18 kids, and it's 70% boys. Having been bullied in elementary school, this really freaks me out knowing the social circle is SO small. If she's an outsider there's literally nobody else for her, and she's a shy kid. On the flip side, does having so few of one gender prevent cliques from forming so easily?

The other thing is past K I'm fairly certain she will be in split grades through grade 7 (no middle school here). Again, my own experience as a kid who was ahead in a lot of ways was I got very bored and frustrated when I was the higher of the 2 grades in a class, because a lot of the curriculum was mixed and the teacher didn't have time for the older kids. My mom had me switch classes a couple of times.

Would love to hear experiences from parents whose kids went to a really small school.

ISO: Trader Joes smoked trout

I love Trader Joes tinned smoked trout. Is there any local equivalent that isn’t $20 a can? I’ve gotten canned mackerel, sardines, and tuna in olive oil but none hit the same way on avocado toast.

I know there’s a whole sub for this workout but it seems to be majority men.

I’ve done strength training on and off over the years, saw a PT for a long time when I was about to get married, then took a break for a few years (Covid, baby, chronic exercise induced migraines). I’ve recently gotten back to doing f45 resistance classes twice weekly and am loving them, but I’ve noticed I’m getting….bigger which is super frustrating. I know diet is a big part of this too which I am trying to focus on as well, hitting my macros and attempting to eat in a slight calorie deficit.

My research told me doing a structured strength training program would be better than classes where you’re always doing something different, so I came upon GZCLP. it seems to be universally positively regarded, and I understand the goal is to lift HEAVY, heavier than I’m probably used to…but I can’t help but look at the workout and think “that’s it?” 5 reps a set, 3min of rest between….this looks like the least amount of time I would ever spend actively performing work, and very different than what I’ve done with PTs in the past. Is it REALLY possible to do a body recomp with such a simple structure? Again, I know diet is a HUGE part of this, I just don’t want to be disappointed again after doing f45 for months and feeling even further from my goals.

If it makes a difference, I plan to do 3 days a week and try to incorporate more walking into my schedule as well.
