Tico and Milky (11), reunited in kitty heaven after 68 days

Milky crossed the rainbow bridge this morning and reunited with his brother, who also crossed 68 days ago. I find a lot of solace in knowing that Tico was there waiting for Milky, and that they are together again. It hurts like a b* but I’m happy they are together again. I know that as much as Milky loved me, he couldn’t wait to see his brother again. I lost both of them to cancer. They were still so young💔I’m glad their fights are over and that they can finally rest in peace, together.

I will miss you both forever, my boys. Until we meet again 🤍

Is it Milky’s (11) time yet?

Hi everyone,

Long story short, Milky (11M, pictures attached for the cat tax) was diagnosed with GI large cell lymphoma exactly one month ago June 3rd. We opted for palliative care so he started prednisolone the same day. He thrived for about 3 weeks on it, until he started declining last Friday. That day he threw up for the first time since his diagnosis and ate a lot less. For the following days until Wednesday he continued to eat less (he would eat about half of his food bowl, and all the treats i gave him). On Wednesday, he threw up twice overnight and since then he has not touched his food bowl. He is, however, eating temptation treats. He will eat as many as I give him so he can easily “replace” his food bowl with treats, which is why I am hesitant to schedule his euthanasia. I should also mention that since Friday he has been having strictly diarrhea stools and has diarrhea 3-5 times in a day. I understand that it’s better a week too early than a day too late, but I can’t help but want to extend his time as much as I possibly can without making him suffer (except I can’t know when he is going to start suffering). Apart from the not eating kibble and the diarrhea, he is still his normal self, he cuddles and sleeps with me, still has normal level of activities and does not hide.

TLDR: Milky has cancer and is on palliative care. He stopped eating kibble or wet food three days ago but he still happily eats as many temptation treats and lickable treats as i offer him. He has been having diarrhea for the last week. Apart from that he is perfectly normal. Should I put him to sleep next week or can we still have more time together?

Gastric Large Cell Lymphoma palliative care - What’s next?

Hi everyone, my cat Milky (11M neutered cat) was diagnosed with large cell lymphoma in his GI on June 3rd 2026. Previous to his diagnosis, he had been experiencing decreased appetite since begging of May. He was eating barely enough to survive (like 50-100 calories per day). We brought him to the vet right away, and they did a bloodwork on him that showed his calcium levels were very high (1.84mmol was the latest ICA test). After ruling out hyperparathyroidism we did imaging exam where they found a gastric mass (2.6cm x 1.6 cm big). The pathologist found cancerous round cells in the aspirates that are highly suspicious for lymphoma, though specialized testing would be needed to be completely certain. We decided to move forward with palliative care and did not choose to proceed with the additional testing or chemo, mostly because taking him to the vet is a very exhausting activity and makes him extremely agitated and anxious and we did not wish to make him go through this every week for an additional life expectancy of 6-9 months. He was then put on Prednisolone (20mg/ml).

Within 2 days of taking the prednisolone his improvement was noticeable. He now eats a lot and has healthy stool (he was pooping small and dry pebbles before) and gained back weight (he was 6.4 kg in May and is now 7Kg). I understand that Pred is only a temporary fix and that eventually the cells will grow resistant to it and I understand that on average they last 1-2 months on Pred. We’re quickly approaching the 1 month mark and I can’t stop thinking about what’s next. Once his appetite decreases again will that be time to schedule his departure? Will it go downhill from there or should I bring him for an exam again? What do I need to watch out for? what will be the signs?

Bonded pair will reunite soon

Sadly for me, they will both reunite in kitty heaven soon. I’m sure they’re stoked to see each other again, though 🤍

Losing both my babies

I’m simply devastated to be losing my soul cats both within two months. Tico (10M the black one) was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and deteriorated really badly. Within one month of showing symptoms we were already putting him to sleep. After his passing, we noticed Milky (11M white) was eating very little. We brought him to the vet, even though there was a high chance that he was simply mourning the loss of his brother. After running some exams, we found a large mass in his stomach, likely to be high grade GI lymphoma. He is still fighting but with high grade lymphoma, it’s only a matter of time before he crosses the bridge as well. I’m so extremely devastated to be losing both my babies at the same time, both for an aggressive form of cancer. I can’t cope with it and moving forward has been so difficult. It’s specially difficult to have Milky still around but suffer from anticipatory grief along with the loss of my first cat just one month ago.

What hurts the most too is that they were both so young. I see so many cats from reddit making it to 18 even 20 years old. I could’ve had twice the amount of time that I had with them if it wasn’t for cancer.

This is no doubt the hardest moment of my entire life.

Dental issues and decreased appetite

I (22F) in Canada, brought my cat (11yo, neutered male) to the vet after noticing a significant drop in his appetite.
During the initial exam, I suggested dental pain as a potential cause. The vet attempted an oral exam, but my cat somewhat resisted. From a limited view, the vet said his teeth did not appear bad enough to cause the anorexia and that his gums don’t seem too inflamed.
His lab results revealed hypercalcemia. We are currently running a comprehensive batch of exams, approaching $6,000 CAD, to rule out malignancies and other illnesses related to the calcium spike. The vet believes the hypercalcemia is the primary cause of his nausea and lack of appetite but i’m still hesitant about his teeth.
It’s pretty clear to me that at the very least he needs some cleaning and possibly x-rays soon, but I’m hesitant that the dental pain is the actual reason for his decreased appetite. I was just looking for someone with more experience with cat teeth to tell me whether this looks like an emergency and if this is preventing him from eating i’ll press the issue further with the vet. If this doesn’t look like an emergency, I’ll still bring him in for a cleaning eventually in the next 2ish months, but some time to recover from the hypercalcemia lab expenses would be appreciated by my wallet.
