First (paid) wedding tomorrow, wish me luck and give me last minute checking recommendations!

First paid wedding tomorrow! Couple very briefed on my status as a new videographer, and they're getting a full day's coverage and edits for about $800, so heavily reduced.

Shooting with an FX30. Only 2 lenses (sirui sniper 23mm, Sony 50mm FE 1.8), but I'm really not a fan of super wide shots, and the only wedding I did before this I had great results with just the 23mm. Reckon I'll regret this?

Target impression share of 15% despite 100% targeted share, and bid limit 10 times higher than average CPC... what gives?

Hi all. I know target impression share isn't the best strategy, but I've tried many things with CPC ads over the years, and very little sticks (including agency work) probably due to the very niche nature of what I'm selling.

I thought I'd try and do a simple 'just stick me at the top, no matter the cost' approach with target impression share and a bid limit of 5 euros (around ten times as high as the actual CPC) on around 150 exact match keywords.

Despite this, average search impression share per keyword is only 15%, with an average CPC of 0.76 euro.

Now, I understand that eligibility to display on a keyword is based on current ads' targeting settings, approval statuses, bids, and quality, etc. but that seems an extremely low share.

My previous PMAX was getting around 30% impression share, and that had a pretty conservative CPC limit.

Anyone might hazard a guess as to why this is happening? Thanks.

Recording venue PA audio for vows/speeches. Better than lav mic on microphone?

HI all. Doing my first wedding soon. I'm caught between sticking my lil bluetooth lav mic on the microphone as I've seen in a few wedding videos, or recording venue PA audio.

Would you aspire to do one, the other, or both? Also, for venue PA, I'm thinking about cheaping out and using a line in to a spare android phone. Thoughts on this approach instead of buying a recorder? Thanks.

(fx30) Show battery percentage ON BACK DISPLAY while charging?

Hi all, pretty sure it isn't possible, but can you change the battery display on the back screen to show battery percentage rather than quarters while charging? Thanks

I'm aware it can be monitored in percentage in monitor and control.

I see your boxed AC, and raise with my in-loft unit, cooling the bedroom underneath it... And it's SO so good.

Is editing in 4:2:2 worth the expense for wedding videography?

Hi all.

I'm starting out with wedding videography. Have filmed my first free wedding, and have my first paid one coming up.

I'm filming with an FX30, and aiming for fairly high-end, but relatively affordable prices.

I understand the incentives of shooting in 4:2:2, but I'm trying to do this on a relatively tight budget, and want to get the most for my money.

For those who have edited wedding videos for clients paying 2000-4000 USD, is color grading, and editing 4:2:2 an absolute must?

Also, is the speed editor deal a no-brainer? Seems like a nice piece of hardware, but I'm not convinced it will actually help my editing flow that much.

Editing with a 3090, i9-9900k. Thanks.

How many of you are monitoring audio during the day, and how are you doing so?

Hi all.

currently building out my FX30 rig, and plan to use a rode Videomic Pro for ambient, and a cheap Sony Bluetooth lav mic for speeches either velcro'd to the microphone, or if possible sat next to the venue's PA system, with handheld mic audio piped into it's line in input (unless anyone recommends against this?)

No XLR handle, and the mics are both mono, so I've made an audio splitter cable to have the shotgun in the left channel, and lav in the right channel, and will split them in post.

Obviously this is a bit of a hack, but I need to keep my budget down while building a portfolio.

My main question; are you live monitoring audio while shooting, and how so?

I can obviously just use a pair of earbuds and that let's me monitor both mics at once in each ear, so I can at least be confident about the levels.

the only thing I'm worried about is obviously putting the camera down and pulling the whole rig off the table as I walk away with the earphones still on... we all goof up sometimes! I'm considering making a magnetic disconnect for my headphones to prevent this being an issue Unless someone has a better solution.

I'm using my phone with the monitor and control app, and noticed that you can't either listen to audio through the phone, or even monitor audio levels visually, right? Or have I missed something there?

Thanks all.

FX30 lens set. Have a 23mm Sirui sniper. complete the set, or cine zoom for everything else?

Hi all. as per the title I'm building out my initial lens set and have a 23mm sirui sniper which I really like the look and feel of, and suits my style nicely.

I'm hoping to stick to as fast as possible lenses to overcome the low light struggles of the FX30.

From here, is the smarter move to complete the sirui set with the 33 and 75 so I'm good for wide, tight, and zoom? Or is there a cine zoom for APS-C that would do the job instead?

Thanks all.

Are they already downsides to using the built-in screen for subject selection tracking like this?

Hi all.

I'm in the very early stages of building a budget run and gun rig for events and some weddings. Obviously I've been eyeing up buying a monitor, however today I realised that if I use a nice set of 3D printed handles, I can actually use my thumb to select faces on the go while using both hands to keep the rig steady.

And the more I think about it the more I realise I don't think there's actually another way of doing this, right? If I used a monitor I'd have to take one hand off, or pull focus manually or something right?

Are there any particular downsides that I haven't considered for this workflow?

Thanks all.

I'm looking at starting wedding videography soon, but I'm worried that the polished cinematographic look I enjoy shooting and working on may be in less and less demand these days, in favour of the 'content creator' asthetic... how is the market?

HI all. I am an entrepreneur and long time photographer and videographer who has for several years been eyeing up starting a side hustle as a wedding videographer. By chance I have all of the kit required for decent mid-high end wedding videos as part of my main business and have always adored photography and good cinematography.

However, I've been looking around some of the usual Facebook pages and places I'd go to advertise, and I've noticed that it seems the majority of wedding videography these days appears to cater far more towards 'content creator' aesthetic: portrait, iphone video, minimal editing, no colour work, etc.

I'm not here to bash that approach, and I understand why it's in demand, but it has me worried that the way I'd like to make content (long format, 4k, 16:9, cinematographic, careful audio and editing, grading etc.) is no longer in demand.

Is there a general sense that things are going this way? Those of you who have been shooting cinematographic inspired... dare I say 'classic' videos, have you noticed a change in the market? Or have I just misread it. Thanks all.

I'm going to be working primarily in the UK but also in other European countries.

Amateur audio setup: multi input/channel audio with a Sony hot shoe lapel mic and a shotgun mic on the mic in line?

HI all, I'm building out an FX30 wedding setup and trying to work out the best way to capture both clean speech audio and ambient crowd noise directly into camera.

I currently have:

  • Sony ECM-W2BT wireless mic (not ideal, I know)
  • Rode VideoMic Pro

Currently I'm trying to do:

  • speeches mic'd with the ECM-W2BT transmitter for clean speech audio
  • Ambient/crowd audio recorded with mic in with videomic pro

From what I understand, the ECM-W2BT uses the Sony MI shoe and the VideoMic Pro uses the 3.5mm mic input, so I'm wondering whether the FX30 can record both simultaneously as separate channels, either with one as a mono input into channels 1 and 2, or stereo into 1+2 and 3+4?

Has anyone successfully used an ECM-W2BT and a VideoMic Pro together on an FX30?

At the moment, when I connect the bt mic to the shoe in it's digital mode, the 'shoe audio set' option is greyed out and unchangeable from 16 bit 2 channel. If I connect the shotgun to the mic line in, it overrides the shoe mic and becomes the only input. With the BT mic in analog mode, the shoe audio set option stats at '-' greyed out, and is again replaced with the shotgun audio mic when that is connected.

Now, I've double checked the manual, which is very vague, but I think the key bit of information I'm missing is that quite simply it seems that combining hot shoe and line in audio on the FX30 body is simply not possible. Is that correct? Thanks

Thanks!
