Successful 3 to 2 nap transition!

Successful 3 to 2 nap transition!

1 week shy of 7 months. I did it cold turkey, let her sleep in a touch later than normal and extended the wake windows GREATLY. Jumped from about 2/2.25/2.5/2.75 to 2.5/3/3.5 and night was completely unchanged, no issues with overtiredness (she already sleeps entirely independently for all sleep sessions). So proud of her!

Head tilting and stumbling in chihuahua

She will be 13 next month. 8.5lbs. Purebred chihuahua always been on the heavier side. She has had stridor her whole life, always the first thing the vets mention when examining her.

For weeks/possibly even months now, she seems to be going downhill. As of lately (1-2 weeks) we have noticed “episodes” where her head tilts right and she struggles to walk. Stumbling, circling, walking into objects. The head tilt lasts a few minutes then goes back to normal but she’s left with limited movement for quite some time. She looks incredibly stiff, has a hard time walking or even settling to lay down and go to sleep.

The vet yesterday did bloodwork. All WNL. physical is all WNL. They gave her 5 days worth of medicam as she may just have old age aches and pain. The vet did mention if it’s neurological we have to get an MRI in the big city so I would be looking at 5-7k which is not a possibility.

She has been given 2 doses of medicam however the episodes of head tilting resume. I thought maybe she seemed less stiff this morning and more lively (ran outside with the other dogs, happy to accept a treat, laid comfortably in her bed, etc) but then she just had another episode.

At this point I’m almost positive it’s something neuro. Does anyone have anything to add to what vet said? What should I do? Tumor? Should we be thinking about putting her down at this point?

Sleep training a refluxy baby

Is it even possible? Baby is 5 months and has had reflux whole life - not on meds. Also appears very gassy and squirms a lot at night time. Sleep is all over the map. No schedule or consistency.Sometimes sleeps in crib a few hours but sleep has really gone downhill after the 4 month regression.

I am posting on behalf of my SIL who is not on Reddit.

Should I still be rescuing sleep trained naps?

She is 5.5 months and took well to sleep training. Shes a great sleeper. Sleeps through the night for almost a month now. Naps in her crib puts herself to sleep for all naps, no issues at all. Some crib naps she will consolidate and nap 1.5 hours or more. But sometimes she wakes after just a cycle (30-40) and is up. In these cases… should I try to extend to maintain on schedule or assume her body knows how much sleep she needs? For reference she wakes between 6-6:45 (I wake at 6:45 if she is still asleep), and we are pretty much by the clock, she naps at 9, 12/12:15, and 4. I always cap 4-4:30 to make bedtime of 7:30 but I hope for at least one long nap a day…

Crib 45 at 5 months?

Can I do crib 45 or even crib hour at 5 months? She falls asleep independently for both naps and bedtime. She is sleep trained and sleeps fully through the night. Her crib naps however are only 30-45 mins, aka one cycle.

DWT 6:45 am bedtime 7:15.

Almost 5 months, on a solid nap schedule now and just starting sleeping through the night! Self weaned from her night feed a few weeks ago.

Hi everyone! Looking for some input. Thanks to you guys and this sub I learned about the magic 10 hours wake time and have made that my goal for my 4.5 month old. We are currently sitting around 2.25/2.25/2.5/2.75 which is almost there. Since upping her wake windows to this she started sleeping better and falling asleep faster. With 9.5 hours wake time she was waking lots but with 9.75 hours I noticed improvement. Her avg sleep is 14h15min. She is now almost 5 months.

She has been falling asleep independently for about 3 weeks now at bedtime. She would then sleep 7-9 hours, but wake up crying and generally finished the night co sleeping with me in the rocking chair. She self weaned from the bottle about 2 weeks ago. She has no interest in eating in the night, I kept trying until I just fully stopped offering about 5-6 days ago.

I started doing CIO for the night wakes since she doesn’t cry at all at bedtime and doesn’t want to eat in the night. The first night she cried about an hour at midnight but then I really worked hard on my schedule and the next night she didn’t cry at all. It’s been 4 nights now of “sleeping through the night” where I haven’t ended the night with her co sleeping. However… she is still crying in the night. Usually around 3/3:30 am she will start to cry. Last night she on/off cried at 3:15 for about an hour. Several moments she appeared back asleep but would then pick up again a few mins later. Lots of thumb sucking as she tried to fall back asleep. She eventually did, as she does every other time too, but it’s just like… an hour of on/off crying this far into sleep training? Doesn’t seem right.

I wake her daily at 6:45 and she’s in the crib by 7:15. Asleep in 5-10 mins for all sleep sessions. Naps capped at 3hrs total and she’s averaging 2h50min currently.

Hi guys, me again! Thanks for everyone’s help this far with my 4.5 month old baby. She is falling asleep fast (5 mins) at bedtime now without crying or protest and sleeps a very long stretch (7-9 hours) before crying. She is averaging 14.5 hours of sleep so I’ve adjusted our schedule to allow 9.5 hours wake time. 2.25/2.25/2.5/2.5 is what’s seemingly working good for us right now. I wake her every morning at 6:45 and bedtime is around 7:20/7:30.

Now problem is she still wakes in the night and won’t drink a bottle. I keep offering a feed but she’s not interested. Instead she just wants me to hold her and contact sleep till morning. Which I have been doing. But honestly I just want to stop. So I tried CIO, she cried on/off 1 hour the first night then went back to sleep till morning. Then I just kinda caved the other nights and assisted her. I’m just at a loss of what to do. She doesn’t want to eat. Our schedule seems good, I know 10 hours is the magic number but 9.5 seems good and I have to cap both naps and night sleep to make it work and with any less than this she just falls asleep everywhere we go and is miserable…

So what are my next steps? Actually CIO all night? Everyone keeps telling me to feed and I’m trying but she won’t have it :( I think it’s habit wakes??

She is 4.5 months old, I’ve been posting frequently. Two nights ago I did CIO for her midnight waking and she cried on off for an hour then fell back asleep until morning. Last night she only cried about 2 mins at midnight before falling back asleep which seemed like a huge success to me! But then at 4am she started crying again and wouldn’t stop. I know EMW can be tricky so I just went and held her in the rocking chair at 4:40 until DWT of 6:45am. She stayed asleep in my arms. She clearly still tired. What should I do for future? Is this destroying progress? She doesn’t feed overnight.

4.5 month old adjusting well to our new 3 nap schedule, tolerating the longer wake windows good! Still not interested in a bottle in the night

u/fab__dady — 2 months ago

If we are in the stroller or car seat she will be falling asleep. Even tho she just woke up from a 1.5 hour nap or whatever the case. I legit have to work so hard to keep her awake and stay on proper wake windows. Is this okay? Am I not giving her enough sleep? She is averaging 3h15min naps and 11-11.5hour nights. I am capping most naps to stay on schedule. 4.5 months old. Been “sleepy” her whole life. 2/2.25/2.25/2.5
