My biggest lore peeve

My biggest lore peeve from the show is the idea that some vampires have been in high school "for literal decades" it's such a stupid throwaway line and I know they didn't put any thought into it or how that would work logistically. I'd be happy to just gloss over it but I hate when fanfiction takes the idea and incorporates it into the universe. There's just no good way to justify it and it seems creepy and weird (not in the fun way).

We're talking about high schoolers, if adult aged vampires hang out in college forever that's fine but why would you wanna be hanging around high schoolers into your 20s lets alone 100s? Their bodies may not age an I guess you could apply that to to their brain development as well but maturity is so much more than that, it's experience just as much.

The Dead and the Dancing handled it the best but I was still very much not a fan of it. I wish we could agree to just take that line from the show as a joke and toss it out the window.

Excuse my rant, I think about this too much and it has never stopped bugging me, especially when it's applied to Yoko and Divinia's relationship.

What got you into Supercorp?

Hi, it's me again the new girl! I'm mid Season 3 now (I binged really hard over the weekend) and I've been wondering, how did you all get into the ship? What made it click for you? Were you watching it as it aired? What season did you start shipping it? Are you like me and came specifically for the ship? I have already searched up some spoilers of my own and I'm not too worried about any so don't feel the need to hold back.

S1 Novelization

Reading a season 1 fix-it fic and remembering how gay the official novelization is, it's kinda nuts. In some ways it's almost as gay if not gayer than the fanfics that take place during season 1.

Tagging this as official content because the captions are all directly from the Official Licensed Novelization, I don't care to dispute whether or not it can be considered canon, official is official.

New Supergirl viewer

Hey! I'm watching supergirl (tv) for the first time purely for SuperCorp, I want to see for myself what makes this ship so popular and as a huge f/f fanfic reader I want to see what makes it the number one f/f ship on ao3.

I'm not here to ask if it's "worth it" because I've already commited to seeing this through, instead I wanted to see if y'all had some, idk guidance? Things to keep an eye out for, community insight, what to expect, whatever! I really know very little about this ship beyond it's popularity (and yes I know it's not canon)

I'm on episode 14 of season one and starting to feel at least a bit invested in the show even though I know Lena doesn't make an appearance until season 2.

The other thing I wanted to ask is for some fic recommendations that I can jump into mid-watch along my journey so that I can break it up, if you have any that are suitable.

Oh yeah, and I may not be the most knowledgable about Supergirl but I do have a wider than average viewer's knowledge of the DC universe as a whole.

Thanks!

Childhood Friends

Childhood friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes of all time and I've been looking for a good fic with this trope since wenclair's inception and I finally found it with this fic.

Half A Step Toward You
https://archiveofourown.org/works/75554956/chapters/197566641

I've read so many wenclair fics and this one has easily taken my #2 favorite of all time spot. The characterization is perfect and this fic never forgets its core, every moment of this story is interwoven with the fact that Wednesday and Enid have been inseperable since they were 4 years old. I could not imagine a better story to capture this trope or this pairing so perfectly. It's unfinished at the moment but I felt quite satisfied with where it left off.

I can't decide if this is an appreciation post, a recommendation or a request for more fics with this trope but please give me some if you have them because I'm completely obsessed.

Which fic do you think...

I was thinking about how almost every fandom has that one fic that got turned into a book with the serial number filed off and was pondering which fic that would end up being for the wenclair fandom.

This is just for fun and not a judgment of those authors so keep it positive, but which fic do you think you could see that being for us? Something that could keep the impact and appeal to a different audience without the addams family ip or characters.

Xavier Sucks

One of my fav things to read in wenclair fics is seeing Xavier's hopes utterly crushed when he realizes Wednesday has feelings for Enid. What are your fav fics where this happens? The more devastating the better.

Forget him being understanding or supportive, I'm very petty and want to see him suffer and struggle to accept it.

Edit: Please, let's not get too off-topic with ship wars that stuff gives me a headache. I didn't just make this post as an excuse to shit on Xavier, I am genuinely asking for recommendations and prefer to keep the discussion about fanfiction.

Games where you run a shop

I played a game a long time ago called Recettear and it was a really cool game where you ran an adventurer shop and you would do some basic dungeon crawling to bring stuff back to sell. I'm kinda tired of planting crops, surely there has be newer games like that some of you could recommend?

Oh yeah and I've already played Moonlighter too.

Edit: Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions, feel free to keep them coming but I've decided on Marenian Tavern Story and Potionomics for now, I will definitely be checking out some of the others at some point.

The Deal (drifter/operator)

It has come to my attention through tiktok that a lot of people think the drifter did not make a deal with The Indifference. This is not the case.

When the operator made the deal you immediately see all the different interations of them from all the different timelines converge into one. At that point there is only one version of them and that's the one that made the deal. It is quite literally THE canon event.

This is confirmed in a KIM Conversation with Eleanor.
> "You have to understand there was only the one of me, of us, at first. We were exactly the same person, right up to the moment where I shook that thing's hand. That's when they went their way and I went mine."

The split came AFTER that where operator was saved from the void but drifter was left behind after everyone BUT them was rescued. This is comfirmed in a few places one of which is a tablet in Duviri where The Indifference says
> "I saved them. All of them. I never said I'd save you."
In both cases the deal was upheld.

They made the same deal and have the same powers, afterall they were the same person at the time the deal was struck. The operator was taught how to harness theirs but the drifter never had that opportunity.

Trying to clear up the confusion on tiktok feels like shouting into the void (pun intended) so I wanted to make this post to clarify these details for those who missed them instead. Thank you.

Edit: Cleaned up the post a bit and added some quotes that further confirm, thanks goes to the commentors who posted them in their entirety.

Hella & Ninety-Nine

One of the first things I did when I started ptn years ago was do Hella and Ninety-Nine's interrogations. At the time it felt very romantic subtextually but I never really saw anyone talk about them so I started thinking about it and realized the age gap between them was potentially bigger than my intitial assumption and I personally stopped shipping them and considered maybe we all just kinda silently agreed on that point and not to talk about it? Even if they *are* similiar in age, the sexualization of Ninety-Nine while Hella is treated appropiately like a teenager makes it weird for me. But nowadays I see people shipping Hella and Synax and I feel like that has the same problem. I only ship Hella and Hypatia because they are explicitly stated to be around the same age and feel like peers.

Is there some unspoken rule around Hella and Ninety-Nine? Did y'all always just see them platonically? Is it because Ninety-Nine has been forgotten and/or nobody has actually done her interrogation?

If it's not clear I'm obviously not comfortable with minor/adult romance so please don't make me regret this post, I'm willing to hear out different points of view without y'all making it weird because I'm genuinely curious if other people distanced themselves from them for the same reason or if everyone just saw them as sisters from the start.

Do you have a preference between Drifter and Operator?

Can be lore-wise, aesthetic-wise, etc., whatever you want to base it on and please feel free to elaborate in the comments.

I do like the Drifter and I feel like most people prefer them due to them being older/more mature (I could be wrong), but I actually find Operator way more interesting. They were us first and I appreciate their history and background. I don't really care for the Duviri stuff, never resonated with me. I love my traumatized orphaned war crime void demon a lot.

We've had so much focus on drifter lately that I'm really eager to get back to Operator being the main focus. I would love something similiar to the KIM system with them so we can get more character moments and development from that perspective. Keep the romantic stuff to drifter though. I hope we get some details about the future of our Operator at Tennocon.

Edit: Y'all, I get it, you don't like the old operator voice lines. GOOD NEWS, you can disable them in settings.

How Do We Relationship storyline translating to show format

So, first off, I absolutely love HDWR its easily my favorite manga of all time and probably some of the realest and most authentic depictions of relationships I've ever seen (Ironically, I recall the author saying she had never actually been in one which makes it even more impressive)

But what I want to discuss is the ultra slow burn format of it and how it could possibly translate to a live action show.

Spoilers: >!The manga takes place over the course of years and has two main characters who get together. Its super cute but they are inexperienced and not great at communication so they end up breaking up and staying friends. Both of them eventually start seeing other people and it's awkward at first but they get over it and become really supportive of one another as they commit whole heartedly to their separate relationships (which are also both really good!). It wasn't meant to last though and they each break up due to compatibility issues or different life paths. Now they are older and more mature and have more experience and they have to navigate where they stand now that they are both single again. It's not quite so neat and simple but they do eventually end up getting back together.!<

How is a show going to handle all this content? if they rush it, it won't do it proper justice and it's definitely not something that can be done over a single season. I hope they know what they are getting into. I'm very excited though and I love the choice in actresses. I want to hear everyone else's thoughts.

Why do people join Omni relic and leave after opening one?

Whyyy do people do this so often it's actually really frustrating me. If you just want to open one, there are better and faster ways to do that. Omni is for people trying to open in bulk and we are always down a person so we get less reward options because one person ALWAYS leaves after the first.

I'm talking about opening like 3-5, not expecting people to spend two hours in the same mission with me. In something like void flood that can still be under 10 minutes, not exactly a huge commitment.

At least with game modes like Onslaught if someone leaves and I want to stay I am perfectly capable of finishing it on my own. With relics you are cutting down the team's potential rewards and if you leave after the first, matchmaking can't replace you.

Edit: some of you in the comments are just straight up jerks acting like im demanding your first born. I understand stuff happens, I'm not mad about every case. And sure nobody "owes" me anything but what ever happened to having at least some degree of common etiquette in online gaming?

Men are so insecure about being in female dominated spaces

Edit: if you aren't going to read the post before commenting at least read this part. These men are not being bullied, spare me the coddling. They just don't like not being the center of attention for once.

I am in some fandoms with a higher ratio of women to men, the example here being Path To Nowhere. It's a niche mobile gacha game with a ~70% female playerbase. Vast majority of characters are women but the designs are much more mature and tasteful compared to pretty much every other gacha and has lots of sapphic subtext (its a chinese game so censorship is unfortunately a factor). Naturally, it has attracted an audience primarily of lesbians and bisexual women. The company is also a subsidiary of Paper Games, which you may recognize through Infinity Nikki, a woman focused developer.

On to my point. It's really refreshing but sometimes the guys who play the game are ridiculously insecure about being surrounded by so many women and get really obnoxious about it. They constantly feel the need to remind people that "guys plays this too!". They complain about how much fan art leans towards the female protagonist and are constantly whining about how "the male protagonist is just as canon". Or they get mad when the dialogue is slightly different to be a bit more flirty for some characters if you are playing the female protagonist.

The other day I called a guy out for saying something misogynist and he assumed I was a guy and called me a white knight, I was like why the hell would you assume that in a fandom like this? Another guy chimed in and was lecturing me about how I shouldn't be surprised guys play the game too (which had nothing to do with anything I said) and how gaming has been traditonally an nerd hobby, which used to mean "anti-social loser". Like women gaming is somehow new or that women can't be "antisocial losers" too.

Anyway it has me thinking about how male-dominated everything is and yet the moment there's a place where they are the minority they can't shut up about it for five minutes. They always act like they are being opressed for not being the dominant voice for once. I'm so tired, even our safe spaces aren't safe from this bullshit.

Xena isn't gay subtext

It's literally in the text of the show. Sure it was subtle at first but how do you watch season 6, in particular the Norse arc, and come away saying any of that was "just subtext"

Gabriel and Xena are stated to be soulmates like a dozen times, Gabrielle turns down a female valkyrie who tells her she's in love with her and then she turns herself into a ring of fire to protect gabriel because if she can't have her at least she has Xena. Xena literally wakes her with a kiss on the lips.

In "Deja Vou All Over again" Joxer (Lucy Lawless) dumps Xena (Ted Raimi) because "we're not meant to be together, thats your soulmate." And you see Xena and Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor) kiss.

They've kissed romantically at least 4 times in the show. It's kinda crazy that even our defense of the show being gay often defaults to "well the actors and writers said so" (which is still important!) when it's not even a debate, the show tells us that very explicitly. I have to wonder if some people just skip those episodes.

I know certain people are going to deny it no matter what but there's nothing that would have convinced them anyway.

Hellapatia

Where's the love for Hella x Hypatia? They are so cute I can't be the only one that ships them. I adore my daughter-in-law, especially after just doing Hypa's interrogation.

I really hope we get a lovely reunion between them next chapter.

Chaos For The Fly sequel is ending

Just thought I'd do a psa for those that have been holding back on reading this fic (or it's sequel Karma In Glorious Splendor) because it was unfinished. There's only one chapter left to go and it should be posted within the next few weeks at the author's pace. Now is the time to start or jump back into it.

This is personally my favorite fanfic of all time and I would highly recommend it to anyone that's interested, with the caveat that it's not going to appeal to everyone. For one thing, it's insanely long, clocking in at 2.5 million words between the first and second fic. Secondly, I've seen a lot of people complain it's ooc for wendsday and while not technically wrong, it really annoys me. OOC usually implies bad characterization or writing, that could not be further from the truth for this fic. It's an absolute masterclass in character writing. It's simply a different take on Wednesday and very much intentional.

This fic acknowledges she's still just a teenager and it treats her like one, here a lot of her coldness is the result of neurodivergence and repression. Above all else, it's a story about growth and maturing and she gets an astonishing amount of character development (as do most of the important characters) that feels very much earned over the course of a long, long story while still maintaining most of what makes her Wednesday.

Also as a general trigger warning, the fic goes into some incredibly dark topics at times while not providing excessive visuals.
