I was resolved to buy the Ioniq 9. Got one discounted just enough to make it work for some capped thresholds for tax reasons. Then Volvo called. Offered me an as-new demo at the Ioniq 9 price. It’s MY25, so has the hump… and it’s a plus, so misses out on the amazing audio, air suspension, ventilated massage seats, dimmable sunroof, fancier wheels, matrix headlights, soft close doors, laminated acoustic glass on all windows… quite a lot missing for the price difference, but I guess Ultra not being discounted as far as Plus. I’m comparing it to a brand new Ioniq 9 top spec that does come with all those ultra features and also captain’s chairs at the back.

So, what would you do? I don’t need the bigger 3rd row for humans but will carry a load of cargo at times and generally prefer bigger.

Seeking advice on something suitable under the LCT/FBT limit. Prado, Denza B5 and B8 aren’t EV. Can’t find Ioniq 9 or Kia EV9 under the price and no dealer demos on offer. Can’t find a decent EV Ute (Hilux isn’t comfy and low range). Denza D9 is too ugly. Just want a boxy 5+ seater with a big boot for carrying long rods (rod cases 2+ metres) , fishing boxes, carts etc. Needs to be comfy inside. Subaru Trail Seeker isn’t big enough. Teslas are too low to ground and regen + cabin pressure made me queasy.

Any ideas?

Buying a new “fishing” car, EV to avoid FBT. Want something that’ll be great for carting surf rods and rod tubes of 2m internally along with various buckets, tackle boxes etc. Also need it to be comfy for the humans. Happy to spent to the top of the LCT threshold… what would you buy? Only a few EV utes in Aus and mostly not particularly comfy inside (looking at you, Toyota). I could get a bottom-spec Kia Ev9, a new VW combi, or one of the Chinese SUVs of decent size. What have you got for all your bulky fishing gear? Without the tax incentive, I’d likely just go for a Prado.

Wondering if you’ve seen any amazing deals on high end fishing gear for EOFY? Have seen Hot Tackle stuff, but more interested in Twin Power, Yamaga etc. Tackle West has some deals, but not seeing as much in Sydney at Coastal, Iso, Otto, Mo etc

Guys - I want to fish in the rain but need to buy some waterproof pants to go over my regular thermals and pants. Any brands you’d suggest? The blue overalls from Anaconda any good, or better to try Amazon? Preference for female cut, but aware that might not be likely in the Aussie retail market.

I’d like a Landcruiser Prado, a Denza B5L or B8… but realise it needs to be fully EV and under 91k for the FBT exemption. What would you suggest for somebody liking big and boxy? Can’t find anything I love and Zeekr X7, Tesla Y etc are all too low to the ground and very sedan-like.
