What’s the worst guest mistreatment you’ve seen at a wedding

I have two stories:

One wedding was at a beautiful, gorgeous venue in the mountains; picturesque location; hotel block was still $450/ night. Stunning ceremony, brought me to tears. Then, the reception…pizza. The little stone fired mobile oven couldn’t keep up. The line took forever, then once we got the thin-crust pizza it was cold. No other food was served. No open bar. Meanwhile, bride had a videographer and a choreographed first dance. Literally felt like we were props at a toddler’s dress-up play date. Hubby and I stopped for tacos afterward.

Another wedding was in an industrial warehouse, but it actually was cool / interesting aesthetic. Ceremony is nice, though bride gets caught on a paper runway (not her fault, venue was idiotic for that). Dinner is family style passed beef and salmon, but it ran out. Whatever, bad luck. No open bar. BUT, the couple, the huge wedding party, and select people got neon wristbands signaling to the bartender that they had open bar access. So like 30/150 people have an open bar, everyone else has to pay. Meanwhile, the bride hired someone to do covers of Disney songs on a keyboard. Once more, felt like a prop at a bad dress-up play date. Would have gladly listened to a Spotify playlist if it meant there was enough food and some drink tickets to spare. Sheesh.

It blows my mind, no one gives a shit about the decor if you aren’t giving adequate food to your guests at a MINIMUM. What are your best wedding guest mistreatment stories? Bonus points if the bride and groom obviously prioritized their own desires over their guests’ basic needs 😂😂

Of Laughing Cow and Alo Sets

Long time follower, first time snarker, followed initially due to the PCOS content. I genuinely enjoyed her early videos. Her channel used to be more authentic and kindness based. She lost her authenticity when the content took an abrupt turn into “I’m rich and skinny now, huzzah” and away from the fast food hacks. We get it, you can fit into Alo now after the $100k in plastic surgeries and have purchased quite literally all of their sets. Pls take your brand deal $$ and work with a stylist.

The thing that drives me nuts, though, is the homegirl LIVES ON PROCESSED FOOD. Laughing Cow wedges and protein powder are in literally everything she makes, it looks genuinely unappetizing when you realize how chemical laden / processed it all is. All washed down with Alani. Pls make less Frankenstein food and just focus on healthier meals with real ingredients!

The whole “I’m richer and skinnier than you” arc will wane eventually. What do you all think the future of her channel is? Collab with an auto detail company based on how much she spills in there? Is she trying to signal to Alo to lock down an elusive brand deal? I kid, I kid 😂😂

($10k) Community Center discourse

There was a post yesterday about a bride upset because she didn’t get back a $2,500 deposit to use a community center / clubhouse as her wedding reception venue. OP deleted the post, but it appears the community center had strict contract language regarding cleaning and trash disposal. OP either didn’t realize how strict the rules were, or ignored the rules, left her trash behind, and lost her deposit.

There was a decent discourse in that thread about community center rules. I was a budget bride who seriously considered using my parent’s HOA community center (brand-new and very spacious) because of how appealing the cost-savings would have been. However, we ultimately did not, precisely because of how punitive these rules are. I learned a decent bit in this process and also was on an HOA board that rented its community center space, so I have seen this from a few different angles. Here’s some additional context for brides considering these spaces that may be helpful for this community.

Community centers are not set up to regularly handle wedding receptions, which is why the punitive deposit rules exist. “Regular” wedding venues are equipped to handle wedding trash, bathroom cleanups, mopping sticky floors, confetti remnants, etc. They have large dumpsters with regular pickup. They have custodians who aren’t fazed by spilled drinks or cleaning up puke. It’s also what you’re paying when you pay for the venue fee. It’s part of the deal.

Conversely, with HOA clubhouses and community centers, they quite literally are not wedding venues. The HOAs / municipalities use the space primarily for HOA or government functions (think: HOA meetings/events, board of governors’ meetings) and rent the space out as a secondary function to make the HOA / municipality some income. They aren’t truly event venues, they are shared spaces that you get to rent inexpensively as a perk of being in a certain neighborhood.

Getting back to the punitive rules…the HOA or municipality have to pay someone to clean the mess if you don’t follow their specific clean-up rules. That money has to come from somewhere, and HOA / municipality budgets are set a long time in advance. This is why the deposit is so high—it’s not budgeted to provide cleanup for the rental room, the cost is passed onto the renter. The idea is the renter would gladly self-insure by cleaning up the space, as they got it a lot cheaper than a regular venue, and if they don’t, the big deposit covers the cleaning charges. Win-win…unless you don’t follow the deposit rules.

A lot of people in yesterday’s thread could not understand why the venue would provide trash cans but expect OP to take the trash with her. Though we don’t know as the thread was deleted, it’s entirely possible the venue did state that the renter is responsible for taking their trash with them. The cans were there for collection only. We have no idea if the community center had a dumpster; how large it is; or how often it is picked up. Sanitation costs $$ and it’s plausible they require you to take your trash with you as large-scale trash collection may not be in the HOA or municipality’s budget. I know it seems crazy, but my HOA clubhouse had the same rule on trash simply because it wasn’t in the budget to have a custodian clean the place after every rental use.

Wedding costs are obscene and I am all for people finding unconventional money-saving hacks. The community center venue can be amazing and cost-saving and I personally almost did it myself. But just realize what you’re signing up for when you use one of them.

Host sold the property three weeks before my stay, unbeknownst to me, then cancels my stay the morning of my trip. [Nashville]

Hoping for some insight here. I booked a relatively new listing (only had four reviews) back in March for this weekend in downtown Nashville. Thankfully, the trip is just leisure and it’s just me and my husband. I’m in the airport this morning when Airbnb support messages me saying the host had to cancel due to “regulations.” Thankfully, I have Nashville connections and booked a hotel without issue. I was pissed off enough to do some digging and when I plugged the listing address in on Zillow, saw the property was sold on June 23 and was on the market since January (I booked in March)

Is it against Airbnb’s TOS to have a listing on the platform and accept bookings while concurrently also listing the property for sale? This seems really problematic for a lot of reasons; what if a realtor wants to do a showing and Airbnb guests are staying there? Anyone go through something similar? I also cannot believe the hosts waited until THE MORNING OF THE STAY to cancel when they had obviously known the property sold weeks earlier. I just feel really bamboozled and wonder if anyone has some experience with this kind of situation. Thanks.

Pizza Place Appreciation Post

Every night on VV sailings, my hubby and I wander to Pizza Place in our jammies around midnight, grab a pepperoni pizza, wander back to our cabin, and watch movies in bed. The pizzas are SO good. Midnight pizza is genuinely one of my favorite VV rituals. Also, Pizza Place >>>> Sorrento’s and it’s not even close.

Refinement experience

Howdy. I got scanned for refinements last month after 14 weeks of treatment for a mild clinical case. (7 trays changed every two weeks). I got my first round of refinements yesterday. Some things that I didn’t know about refinements that may help others:

Attachments. My dentist removed my old attachments at my scan last month, which I wasn’t expecting and was awesome. He put the new attachments on yesterday. I have way less attachments for the refinements, only 3 on top and 4 below. Dentist says refinements produce less dramatic movements because they’re just refining progress. This is why there are less attachments for this stage.

Frequency. I went from having 14 day tray changes to 7 days. I have six refinement trays, so we’ll rescan in mid August. Dentist says this is again because of the smaller movements with refinements. I’m a fan of this as the two week changes mean the trays get kind of gross towards the end of the two weeks.

I love this sub and appreciate everyone’s support. Good luck with your Invisalign journeys!

VV still beats other cruise lines, even if slightly enshittified

Currently on Valiant in the Mediterranean, fourth VV cruise but my last one was December 2023 so it’s been a while. I had posted a few months ago worried about the changes to tipping, wifi, and when you could book restaurants. Seeing these changes shocked me and made me worried about enshittification for VV.

But now I’m onboard…hubby and I just finished a spectacular embarkation day by watching movies in bed with a pizza and diet cokes. I’ve done Royal the past few cruises and it hit me, I couldn’t do the same thing on their cruises because TV/movies aren’t included in your cabins (and Pizza Place >>> Sorrento’s). Then I realized just how much nickel and diming happens on the other cruise lines, for specialty restaurants, soda, etc…I could go on and on…VV, I’m sorry I cheated on you. Being back on a lady ship reminds me exactly why VV is my favorite cruise line ❤️❤️

Q re John Hancock 401k rollover into Fidelity IRA

Howdy. I’m helping my husband rollover his John Hancock 401k to an existing Fidelity IRA. The JH form is pretty confusing, it has a section where you have to fill out Electronic Fund Transfer information to the recipient bank. I believe the account and routing numbers are different for EFT versus wire for Fidelity. Hubby filled out this form with the Fidelity EFT info (NOT the wire info) and did NOT check the “wire” box. My question for this sub: the way this form is designed sort of implies wire is the only kind of EFT that JH will do, is this true? Will they issue an EFT to Fidelity the way this form is filled out? We’re worried this may get interpreted as wire instructions because it’s so unclear if they will ONLY accept wire and not an EFT, We already called JH customer service and they hung up on us mid call. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Outlets on Valiant?

Going to be sailing on Valiant later this month out of Barcelona. Can anyone describe the power outlet situation in the cabins? I’m American and trying to figure out if they have only euro style outlets in the cabins. Also, if there are USB plug-ins, are they USB A or C?

Thanks!

First round done! Started 2/24/26, initially given seven trays, changed every two weeks. Dentist and I agree a round of refinements needed based on lateral incisors. He removed my attachments and said to wear my last tray at nighttime while Invisalign determines my refinements. He said this will take 2 weeks max, then I get new attachments and the new trays.

Soooooooo glad to have a break from both attachments and daytime trays, even if just for a week or two 😁😁

Apartment construction and running gags

Not sure if this was meant to be a comedic running gag or symbolism of the girls’ lives in various states of construction/destruction (or neither), but I found the many apartment construction scenes throughout the show to be pretty absurd. We get Adam and Mimi-Rose taking down an entire wall in Hannah’s apartment; Desi trying to build walls in Marnie’s studio; Adam’s place in general. I get that neither Hannah nor Marnie damaged their places themselves, but still feel like this was so unrealistic. They’re all broke young people who would be fearful of losing security deposits, also a super dick move to do to a friend/girlfriend.

I’m probs reading too much into this. Do we see other similar running gags throughout the show?

American Bitch and Famesick / JK dynamic

I finally finished S6 and was blown away by American Bitch, it’s easily in my top 3 favorite Girls episodes.

American Bitch hooks us into maybe buying Palmer’s bullshit “I’m just a sad horny loser, but not a predatory one” in an awww shucks kind of endearing way. Hannah pushes the envelope by visiting a writer accused of manipulating young women sexually in his house. Why not just email or call him, or meet in a cafe like a professional? Red flag for us as the audience, which Palmer even acknowledged; these young women come to him. Hannah dries her pits and crotch in his bathroom, tacitly admitting sex with him may have crossed her mind, but on her terms. Defiantly making a point about not getting offered a drink, acting wholly in control, when he finally and so suddenly strikes all of us over the head with a frying pan with his dick. The women walking towards his place in the end scene, the use of Desperado, haunting. Amazing.

To then realize she wrote this brilliant and extremely nuanced masterpiece on the cusp of Me Too exploding, and then only a few months later does her own American Bitch IRL by defending the Girls writer accused of assault.
Such a Hannah move…life imitating art.

Made me think about the Jenni Konner situation in Famesick. A core theme of Famesick is recounting Jenni. Lena Dunham / Hannah both have an insane compulsion to report their cutting observations of the world. It’s a gift, it’s also a mandate. Lena/Hannah simply MUST tell you the story. This is precisely why Jenni tells Lena at their last therapist office meet to wait a bit to write about her. She knew Lena would eventually write about it. This is why Jenni was so exhausted with Lena. Jenni was an older professional being paid to literally be a cool big sister / chaperone for an absolute train wreck wunderkid prodigy who also couldn’t be bothered to brush her hair and was always complaining about something. But this bumbling prodigy was your meal ticket. While this doesn’t justify many of Jenni’s actions towards Lena, the Jenni dynamic doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Could you imagine being in your late 30s, freshly divorced, balancing a career and motherhood, and then being paired up as 23 year old quasi nepo baby creative wrangler, bestie, sister, and showbiz mentor and realizing your entire livelihood depended on it? Oy.

Tl; dr The Lena / Hannah of it all… 🤯🤯

I got Invisalign as a 33 year old even though I had braces as a teen. As a teen, I didn’t wear my retainer and my right front tooth nearly immediately bucked / turned. It’s all I see in my smile and photos and it’s driven me nuts for the past 17 years. Initially given 7 trays that I change every two weeks. I have two trays left and get scanned for refinements the first week of June!

This sub has been so supportive, I’m very grateful. Love the results but hate the process. At least y’all are encouraging 🥰🥰
