Is it safe to not have a physical card in Europe?

I’m going on my first solo trip to Italy as a 19 year old female traveler. However, I will be relying only on cash and a virtual Mastercard app. I still don’t have my own physical master or debit card.

I’m starting to worry if this may be unsafe for me. My phone is a 13 mini and might lag in the summer sun too. I’m ordering most my transport tickets online prior but still. Should I shorten my trip at least? Thank you

UPDATE: I am postponing my trip to next week to order my physical card! I didn’t shorten it. I’ve traveled a lot but only with family and friends so I never needed my own card. But yea this time it seemed necessary. Thank you for your help everyone. A bit sad I can’t go on my birthday but better safe then sorry :)

Mixed dorm room or Airbnb for lake como?

Hello, I am a solo female traveler on my first solo trip.
I wanted to perhaps do a few nights in lake como. I would also like to meet people hence a social hostel would be cool — however, only mixed dorms are available and it’s very cheap (~95 euros). I’m not sure if that’s a safe idea as a young woman even though it’s cheap and i get to meet people. Its location and almost everything seems perfect but there are just no female dorm rooms available!
The alternative is a 138 euros Airbnb. But I worry I won’t get to make as many friends plus it’s obviously more expensive. Any tips? Do I just stay in a social hostel in milan and do day trips to como even if I don’t really care for milan?
I’m going Aug 13-aug18

Is this a good itinerary for my first solo trip?

My first proper solo trip for my 19th bday! My goals are to make friends and visit the places of Italy I’ve dreamt of for a year now — the lakes, dolomites (I love hiking!) and crema (call me by your name fan)

Is this itinerary good? Is this more overwhelming than I think?? Will navigating transport be difficult? Just lmk. I’ve just always wanted to see the lakes, crema and dolomites.

Venice will be my base! Hopefully I get to make friends that will accompany to one of my day trips.

Aug 13 (Night 1): Arrive, check into my female dorm, meet hostel mates, evening walk on Venice Island
Aug 14 (Night 2 -Crema): 1 hour train each way. Day trip to Crema. Walk the Piazza Duomo, visit the filming spots, and rent a bike.
Aug 15 (Night 3 -Dolomites Day): 2 hour train each way. Take the train of bus from Venice to the Dolomites. Maybe rent a bike there too? I don’t have my license yet to drive a car.
Aug 16 (Night 4 -Lake Garda ): 1.5-hour train to Lake Garda for lake views and a swim.
Aug 17 (Night 5 -Venice Chill Day): Full relaxed day in Venice. Do a water bus tour and join a hostel dinner or night out.
Aug 18 (Departure): Check out and depart.

I’ve done a solo trip last year to France but I stayed with a family friend; I also did a trip with 2 of my friends earlier this month where we booked our own accommodations. But this time im going solo for reals! I’ll be by myself and booking my own hostels!

Need help finding base city for first solo trip!

For my 19th bday, I'm planning my first real solo trip to Italy aug ~13-17 (I have experience doing solo trips and traveling prior; but whenever I have done a 'solo' trip, I usually go alone with friends or, if I am alone alone, I stay in family friends' places. So this is my first trip truly alone + booking my own place).

Since it's my first time staying in a foreign place completely on my own, I really want to avoid packing up and switching hostels every 2 days. I'd love to settle into one main base city for 4–5 nights in a solid, female-friendly, social/safe hostel, do day trips from there, and make friends.

My dream bucket-list for this trip are:

  1. Lake Como OR Cinque Terre (either is fine!!).
  2. Crema (I am a Call Me by Your Name fan, want to rent a bike and see the filming spots!).

Vereno seemed perfect since it was close-by to my dream spots and looked really pretty; but unfortunately the only 2 female hostels I found are booked during my dates.

Florence is lovely but I think it's pretty far from Crema? Idk.

Is Milan a good option for a base? It seems closeby but I heard it's really industrial and city-like? I dont know if I would like that since I kinda wanna escape the city. I initially looked at Florence and Venice but I'm trying to figure out which base city makes the most logistical sense without spending 6–7 hours on trains every day.

Any help is much appreciated!

How do you develop productive forces without restoring capitalist relations?

I’m still reading theory so I have a lot to learn. Within socialism, how do you develop productive forces without restoring capitalist relations to get to higher phase communism? Thanks

How to mod the game on bluestacks?

I've found online the only ways to mod the game in general is via game guardian and vphonegaga. However, vphonegaga doesn't seem to work on bluestacks.

So, does anyone know how to mod the game?? Gameloft has really been spending a lot of time on patching stuff over the years - but I've modded the game on android many times as a kid. I just don't own android anymore

Are animal products actually a necessity for some disabled people?

I hear a lot that some people can’t go vegan because, for example, dairy is a necessity for them as stated by their doctor.

Is that really true? And if so, what makes dairy so special? Aren’t there ethical alternatives that give the same benefits dairy gives to keep that person alive???

Dealing with political isolation and severe resentment as a leftist vegan. How do you cope?

Hi! I’m 18 and went vegan about two weeks ago. I wanted to reach out to other vegans, specifically those who are leftists (not liberals) to ask: how do you deal with the intense feelings of political isolation? I have been feeling more and more miserable in my social circle over the years.

Leftist vegans make up a tiny percentage of the population, and it’s exhausting being surrounded by complicit people all the time. There are no leftist or vegan organizations where I live, so meeting like-minded people in person is very difficult. Because of this I’m building up so much resentment and bitterness toward everyone in my life. Once you see the world for what it is, you can’t unsee it. You realize the people around you are complicit in global atrocities and choose to stay that way, no matter how much information you give them. I just don't understand it.

If I cut out everyone who doesn't share these values, I’ll only have a couple of friends left. As an extrovert, that isolation would make me feel even worse. But seeing other leftist vegans online is the only thing keeping me sane right now.

How the fuck am I supposed to cope with this? Am I really expected to just smile and play nice around animal abusers, apolitical people, and liberals who make up the vast majority of the world??

Is this true or another MJ defender lie?

I keep seeing online from MJ fans that the boys will be boys book and some other child pornographic material found at Neverland was apparently disregarded from the investigation because MJ had no fingerprint on them or something? I thought it was disregarded because they were legal at the time??? Also in the book did it not literally have a message from the author directed towards MJ? Where are they getting this info from bro

How to produce multiple AI images based off a script?

I was wondering if it was possible to feed an AI a script I wrote, and to have it generate an image for each line. I haven't been able to find a way to do this, but it seems possible? Please help. Thank you!

How to deal with apolitical social circles?

I’ve been struggling a lot lately with having primarily apolitical friends. They’re not against my politics (in fact they seem to agree with it) but they’re just so apolitical and do not care about what’s going on in the world nor their actions that it exhausts me and makes me question their ethics. They aren’t principled folk.

There are no leftist parties or organizations here either. It’s very difficult to find likeminded folk.
I’m tired of being surrounded by people like this but I don’t want to be alone as an extrovert. These are people I’ve spent my whole life with as well, but it sucks that people I connect with the most on a deep level are online. I have the means to travel fortunately to meet likeminded people but obviously I can’t do that all the time and I still spend most my time in a place with apolitical chuds.

I’ve been doing volunteer work lately but so far haven’t found any leftists yet.

So, does anyone relate and have any advice?

How to be vegan in Asian culture?

Hello! I’m 18 and want to go vegan. I want to hear some advice and personal experiences from other Asian vegans (or really just anyone that comes from a meat-heavy culture) and how they went about it.

I’m from Hong Kong and am half Indian. Meat is ingrained into everything in both regions. Despite Hong Kong’s ties to Buddhism, it’s very difficult to find vegan-friendly restaurants and stores here. It’s eating me up inside.

I don’t come from a well off household so ordering vegan stuff online would be very expensive for me. But I can afford taobao and stuff but the options there are limited too. I just don’t know what to do.

For context, I don’t eat red meat in my average diet. However my meals have asian sauces that are extracted from animals, or dairy products (like eggs and cheese). It’s hard to avoid these.

I’d really like some advice! Thank you :)
