DUI checkpoints over the holiday weekend

The Danbury Police Department will be conducting a DUI checkpoint on Saturday, May 23rd, in the area of Main Street and Patch Street during the evening hours.

We want to remind all drivers:
Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Plan ahead and designate a sober driver
Use ride-share services

---------------------

aside from this listed checkpoint, they will certainly have more, as will other towns. Plan ahead. Don't drink and drive. Make it home alive.

small PSA for holiday weekend. Candlewood Lake Authority is working to get all the markers out in the lake before the holiday weekend. If you're going to hop in a boat on a weekday, be careful as not all the hazard buoys are yet. Be cautious on your first day out!

Vaccination clinic for pet rabbits

RHDV-2 is a highly deadly, extremely transmissible virus spread between wild and domestic rabbits. For many years, immunization against RHDV-2 was not available in New England. Everybunny Counts Rabbit Rescue is excited to partner with Exotic Pet Mobile Vet this June to provide initial vaccinations, boosters, and state-required microchipping for your beloved rabbit. Many rescues (including our own) require this vaccination for boarding reservations and bonding appointments.

At this clinic, your pet will:

  • Get a brief wellness check to confirm eligibility for vaccination
  • Receive an RHDV-2 vaccination from Dr. Michelle Kneeland
  • Receive a microchip implantation, if not already tattooed or microchipped (in accordance with CT state law)
  • Go home with clear aftercare and education on ongoing protection
  • Receive a nail trim from Everybunny Counts volunteers if requested

If this is your rabbit's first time receiving the RHDV-2 vaccine, or if more than twelve months have passed since their last booster, please make sure to reserve spots for both the June 7th AND June 28th dates. The initial vaccine and booster must be given 21 days apart for maximum efficacy. Your rabbit will also be microchipped if they do not already have identification.

If this is your rabbit's annual booster, you are free to reserve a spot on either available date. Your rabbit will also be microchipped if they do not already have identification.

Pricing:

Vaccination: $60 per dose ($120 total for initial two-dose vaccine series)

Microchipping: $40 (required by state law if your rabbit does not already have a tattoo or microchip)

Register online here.

Captains wanted to clean up Candlewood Lake

Last Call for 2026 Clean Up Registration!
Tomorrow is the final day to register!
https://candlewoodlakeauthority.org/Captain-Registration
Join us to clean up Candlewood Lake on May 16, 2026! Registration required to participate.

Keep in Mind: Boat Captains must provide their own crew, and we will not be matching crew members to boat captains. So volunteers must already have a boat captain to sign up for the clean up!

Captains and crews must pick up their materials (including bags, gloves, and additional instructions) between 9-10 am at the New Fairfield Town Park boat launch. Return at around noon to unload your trash at the ramp and come up to the park for some lunch!

In addition to signing up themselves, Boat Captains must also have every member of their crew sign the waiver form found at the below link!

Danbury is launching a new Adult Education Enrichment Program at Western Connecticut Regional Adult and Continuing Education (WERACE), Danbury Public Schools. Adult enrichment education is learning for adults who want to grow — personally, professionally, or creatively — without the pressure of grades or degrees. These courses offer short, flexible classes that help adults build skills, explore interests, and stay engaged in lifelong learning. It’s practical, enjoyable, and designed to fit real life. Public input is invaluable in shaping a program that truly enriches our community. Once WERACE reviews public feedback, they will announce the fall course catalogue and registration dates.
