Jumped back on Upwork after taking a few 2 months off and can't complain about the first week back

Sent just 3 proposals, all 3 got viewed, 2 turned into interviews, and 1 resulted in a hire.

I've been on the platform since Aug 2025, one thing I've learned is that it's much more about sending a few highly targeted proposals than blasting out dozens.

How everyone else's last few weeks have been. Has the market picked up for you, or is it still pretty slow?

Favourite go to restaurant in Pampanga?

So far my addiction is Locabomb, middle eastern cuisine. The spices they use are incredible, everything is so rich and full of flavour. The biryani, curries, beef nihari, and the kebabs are all amazing. Add their white sauce and chilli sauce and it's just on another level. I've lost count of how many times I've eaten there and ordered delivery.

Curious what everyone else's go to restaurant is? Doesn't have to be fancy just somewhere you keep going back to because the food never misses.

Always keen to try new restaurants.

What's the best way to sell used stuff around Pampanga?

I'm based in San Fernando and have quite a few things to clear out, electronics, branded clothes, bags, and other items I've brought over from overseas.

Is Facebook Marketplace still the go to here, or is Carousell better? Are there any local buy and sell Facebook groups that are actually active in Pampanga?

Not in a huge rush, but I'd like to sell everything without getting flooded by scammers or ridiculous lowball offers.

Would love to hear what has worked best for you guys.

For those of you with a yaya/helper, what's your setup like?

Are you pretty strict with them or more laid back? Do you trust them well? How's your relationship? Do they ever ask for salary advances?

We've been really lucky with ours. She's super trustworthy, hardworking, and has heaps of initiative. Most of the time we don't even have to ask her to do things because she's already onto it. We try to be pretty relaxed too. If the chores are done, she's welcome to watch TV, use her phone, and if she needs to head home for something important we're usually happy to work around it.

I've heard very mixed experiences though. A few Filipino friends and relatives have gone through multiple helpers because they weren't reliable or kept leaving for another family. At the same time, I've also heard of households being extremely strict, so I imagine it works both ways.

Curious what everyone else's experience has been. Did you get lucky with your first helper, or did it take a few tries to find a good fit?

Best Buffets in Pampanga?

Living in San Fernando. I've only been to a handful so far, and I'm hoping to take my wife's family out for a nice meal. Ideally I'm after a buffet with a good mix of Filipino dishes plus international cuisine (Japanese, Chinese, Western, seafood, etc.).

What would you recommend, and why? Bonus points if it's great value for a family gathering!

Does anyone else keep getting these "Cash has been credited to your account" notifications from Shopee?

Every time I tap it, it always opens the exact same product listing (this random baby playmat). I don't have any cash credited to my account, and it's always this one item.

Is this just a misleading promotional notification, a bug, or is something wrong with my app? Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Mark Wiens recently exploring Pampanga's food scene

Always nice to see international food vloggers like Mark Wiens shining a spotlight on Pampanga! We all know it's one of the best places in the Philippines for food, but it's great seeing the local restaurants and Kapampangan cuisine get more recognition.

What's the best burger joint in Pampanga?

I've been living in San Fernando for about a year now and have been craving a really good burger, but nothing has really hit the spot. I've tried Barney's, Zark's, and a few other places that were recommended, but I'm finding a lot of the patties seem to be mixed with pork rather than being 100% beef.

Any recommendations for places that do a proper all-beef burger? Happy to drive anywhere around Pampanga if it's worth it.

How does Upwork allow this? Client offering revenue share and not flat fee.

How are posts like this even allowed on Upwork? It's literally asking freelancers to work for zero guaranteed pay in exchange for revenue share and dreams of passive income. I even tried to flag but Upwork couldn't find any TOS violation. These listings just waste people's connects and clog up search results.

No Job Alerts?

Been on Upwork since Aug 2025. Top Rated Plus, 100% JSS, around $30k earned.

I took about a 2-month break and since coming back I've noticed I'm no longer getting any job alerts/recommendations. The Jobs tab just says "You don't have any job alerts." However, I still get the occasional invite from clients.

Has anyone seen this before? Did taking a break mess with Upwork's matching algorithm, or is this just a bug? Curious if anyone has had to "re-activate" their profile somehow after being inactive for a while.

Upwork invites have become absolute trash lately.

I'm top rated plus, 100% job success with over 30k earned. I used to think getting job invites meant a client actually looked at your profile and wanted your specific skillset. Now my invites are mostly $5 surveys, “research studies”, completely unrelated jobs, random low-effort spam.

I’m getting invites for stuff that has nothing to do with my field at all. Feels like clients just mass-invite anyone now.

The one that pushed me over the edge today was a “UK retirement planning survey” paying five bucks. Client has almost 1,000 hires and $700k+ spent too. Like… this is what the invite system is being used for now?

Curious if other people are seeing the same thing or if it’s just me.
